So, 1 minute in and I think I figured out why the cats appeared: Pumpkins. If I am not mistaken rodents love pumpkins. So the local cat mafia setup shop by the pumpkins.
Cats ALSO love pumpkins. Both as a toy, and if they split them open...to eat. Most animals do, even obligate carnivores like cats. Big cats are given pumpkins as toys AND treats
We put food out for hedgehogs in our garden, but it kept being eaten by other animals... our solution might work for the fat cat as well. What we did was get a large, clear plastic storage tub to put over the food, then we cut a hole in one side large enough for the hedgehogs to get through, but too small for the larger animals that kept stealing the food, we also put a couple of bricks on top so they couldn't move it or knock it over, and it worked great. If you got the size of the hole right, you could probably keep any fat cats out, while still letting smaller cats get to the food.
This reminds me of how my sister's cats like to eat at different houses around my neighborhood. I know this only because one day while walking home, one of my neighbors stopped me to give me some of the cat food they'd been feeding them.
I don't think it's the same cat. The fur patterns don't match up. The cat on the right looks older and it's stripes appear more staggered (almost like spots). The ears are aligned differently, too. I've not known cats to get lighter coats from gaining weight. My mother's cat was overweight for a while before he slimmed down. His coat was just as black as it was when he was a kitten. I used to have an orange marmalade cat that put on considerable weight. His coat didn't change, either. Odds are, you just have two similar cats visiting. Could even be related. That could be "Daddy" on the right.
Hmm, after pulling the images of the two cats into photoshop and increasing the contrast on the chonker to increase the visibility of the stripes, I don't think they're the same cat. The stripe pattern on their coats don't line up very well. They might be related, being local feral orange cats with white socks. But the coat shouldn't be so mismatched if it was the same cat turning into a chonker.
Lighting aside, the stripes do look different. Skinny cats has more of a “v” pattern strip above the front leg. The chunky cat has those stripes run parallel to each other.
The other reason to not leave food out is that it invites wild animals to the area as well. There are a surprising number of wild animals living in cities and something like a racoon or a coyote is something you don't want to have around your home if you have pets or care about strays. All of those strays will attract coyotes who will prey upon those cats and they're smart enough to pick up patterns and learn from them. It doesn't take them very long to catch a cat slipping and it's over for them. You could also end up luring in racoons who are carriers of diseases like rabies and can transmit it when the cat and racoon fight over the food. I remember a neighbor had left food out for strays and a month later, neighborhood pets, mostly cats, were disappearing and not coming back home. A pack of coyotes had setup in a wash between the neighborhoods and were picking off the cats for a while. A local animal control had been called in to deal with them because they started chasing children and found a pile of bones of mostly cats near what is thought to be their den.
Man she is for sure now not beating the forever single crazy cat lady allegations. On the plus side sitting on porch just chilling is very Southern dad of her... much respect.
I feed over 10 to 20 stray cats in my area and this happened to me at one point, a cat named peaches became a bowl bully and never left my porch and just ate, he was a sweet cat though and he was so young so I let it be. However… for stray cats, getting fat is extremely dangerous… as not long after he got fat he got tackled and heavily by a coyote because he was too heavy to get away. I tried to save him but he was too weak and died the next morning.
You didn't do anything it's not the same cat the cat on the right is older which is why it's lighter, Besides cats are gluttons they will eat any food that you leave out
Not an issue with orange cats, they get reallly lazy as they get older and have enough food, I have a chonker that is a healthy 14 pounds he doesn’t have diabetus. It takes him3 days to eat a cup of cat food lol so there’s nothing wrong with how much he eats.
I don't think they are the same cat, I have kept cats for over 50yrs, (I'm in my late 60s) and the markings look different and the colour change is too drastic. Don't put prunes in the food!!! 💐🤔💫😸🐾✨🦈💞💗☕🥖🧀🇪🇺🇺🇦🇬🇧🦕⚔️💃🩰👗🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈💐
This shouldn't be content. This shit is foul. Overweight cats is detrimental to their health. A cat 5lbs overweight is the equivalent to almost 80lbs on a human.
Never had indoor only cats until my current two. They're tiny, even at two years old, and I live on a busy main road with a wild, fox filled garden. I feel bad keeping them inside all the time, but I gotta be real careful before I let them out I think.
Slinky became Slonky 🤣

I think Slonky is just Slinky's cousin from New Jersey.
One thing I have learned is that a lot of stray cats are often being fed by the entire neighborhood.

locking cats inside is so strange for me here most people let the cats just be free.
There's many predators that can injure and kill them. Plus they DECIMATE a lot of the Local Bird Populations
