You would pay significantly less while getting double the storage if you were just to buy the barbone kit and add your own stuff. 32gb of DDR4 3200 so-dimm ram can be had for under $80, and even a PCIe gen 4 1tb NVMe can be easily found for around $100 these days. The bare kit is $800, plus just under $200 for the upgrades saves you close to$100. Just my opinion on the subject lol
@qtsssim in terms of reliability I'm honestly disappointed. I have HM90, and it has issues where it will randomly just completely freeze until you unplug the power. Minisforum so far is either giving responses that completely ignore what people are saying or tells you to ship it back at your own cost. And we know it's a hardware problem because it's happening no matter your OS or what you're doing.
MinisForum are really knocking it out the park with these designs. I think they've firmly realised there is a market for the smaller-than-console PC gaming / powerful PC for work. I currently use a MSI DP20Z as my daily runner for development work and a bit of light gaming. But this HX90G could be a serious upgrade for me. I haven't turned on my tower PC for almost 18 months now!

Literally my dream mini pc,so much power packed into such a small space! Perfect for 1440P gaming and emulation at this form factor. This is almost PS5/XSX levels of performance for about the size of a Series S!
comparing this to a ps5 is a stretch. It is on paper, but consoles are 1000X more optimzied. I play 60 FPS 4K games with raytracing on my ps5 like spiderman, this console can barely run it at high no ray trac and 1440p....

@@MUCKLEECH Oh it's *smaller*, true. But not more capable. You're sacrificing capability to get this small. My full-tower, with it's old 1700X, still runs circles around this thing because my system's got a full size GPU (Sapphire 5700xt) with a full size cooling solution (three fans, each almost as big as this thing's side panel) instead of a laptop chip. And I could spend like $300, buy a moderately newer Ryzen (3000 or 4000 series) used and a motherboard (or or go cheap and patch this one) and run circles around my current system. I don't care about how much room this takes up. I don't care about it's power consumption (the GPU is currently pulling 194 watts *by itself* crunching Fold@Home) nor it's ecological impact. If I spend $1000 on a new *gaming* PC, I'm buying a tower. It's more performance for the same money. I can put watercooling in it, and then overclock it well beyond it's rated 'boost' speed, most Ryzens will do so happily. These mini PCs have their place, collage dorms or RVs/boats or whatnot where space is at a premium. Buuuut I'm not trying to game on the ISS or something so having a full size computer isn't getting in the way, it just sits under the desk, while the (still much larger than this mini-pc) server sits on top.
This thing is basically the PC I want to build as a linux box. Something like Zorin or Pop OS as a work station would be totally overkill and fly on this thing.
I have a Hades Canyon kicking about which I also consider turning into a SteamOS console. But this little thing looks might sweet and a lot less weird. The one thing the Hades Canyon has is an IR receiver. Those are brilliant if you are able to wake up the machine with those.
This is the first mini pc that you've reviewed that is actually a decent deal vs just buying a laptop and vertical stand. Good cpu/gpu and extra nvme slot for egpu possibilities down the road. Only problem I see here is that size wise it's approaching mini-itx territory where you could have a fully upgradable mini pc including desktop (vs laptop) cpu and gpu that are changeable/upgradeable. Still, this is a decent deal if someone doesn't want to build their own and this is a wee bit smaller.
I thought the same (in terms of the size approaching mini ITX) but I guess the question is what you can actually buy for that price, as well as the annoyance of having to put it all together. Also I played around with the pricing on the minisforum and it seems that (where I am at least) it's cheaper to get the barebones model and buy your own RAM and SSD (save around $100 to kit it out equivalent to the top spec 64g 512ssd).
I ordered one for my little sister, very excited !! She works from home and lightly games and will save her a lot of desk space since she also has a work laptop
One of the reasons for such great performance is you can see they use high quality dual sided, dual bank, memory. I am trying to get a commitment from them they will do this with all production units, not just the test ones. Otherwise then I will need the barebones unit.
We see the 6600 used in 1080p usually so seeing a mobile version run games at 1440p shows how powerful it is when you're not worried about maxing settings out
A lot of mobile GPUs can deal with a lot of heat but are limited by it. There are a couple of examples of laptop GPUs running insane 24/7 overclocks when the cooling is good. I used to have a Sony S13P that had a Nvidia GPU that could comfortably handle a 105% (!) overclock.
I just pre-ordered one. The 32GB RAM version. Like the fact that it's so powerful and portable too! Chose 'Duty-Free Shipping', hope they go a bit easy on me with taxes (shipping to Netherlands).

Great to see they got the liquid metal down on this model. I know the original HX90 some of the test units that went to reviewers did not have liquid metal on the cpu but had spots of liquid metal inside the case.
Great video, but wondering when you'll be getting the HX99G which has a Ryzen 6900HS + RX6600m? I'm guessing the performance won't be that much different (assuming you're not using the integrated because you have the dedicated GPU) but still interesting to see. Also wondering what you would recommend - this one or the NUCXI7 you reviewed last month? Looking on the minisforum website, the NUCXI7 is definitely a lot more expensive (the fully kitted out HX90G (64GB RAM insane lol) is basically the same price as the barebones NUCXI7), although comparing your two videos it looks like the NUCXI7 is a bit more powerful (or maybe a lot, I see you had Spiderman running at 1440p without DLSS at high framerates compared to the HX90G only hitting the same with FSR on..
When you do the HoloISO video, it would be great to also see how it performs when streaming to a handheld console (or something like a Shield hooked up to the TV).
Great review! can't wait for the SteamOS video :) Can you please take a look at the systems fan noise level during 4k and bluetooth controller responsiveness?, that would be great, thank you! :)
Always wanted to make a transition from console to PC gaming. I feel like this would be a good start as a base and build upon that to create a better set up in the future :)
Hey, I’m looking to buy a HX90G is everything ok with your unit ? I hear a lot of bad comments regarding the HX90G some people say that it has a problem with screen tearing in games, freezing and going unresponsive.
I'm very tempted to replace my current travel rig with this. Running a Ryzen 2700 with an RX 5500 XT in a Geeek M5 case. This would be a nice upgrade in specs and a down sizing of the machine.
It’s very tempting to get this I’m more of a console gamer but I want to be able to play retro games and play a select few steam games with my friends so this would be perfect for me
Hey ETA Prime! Great vid as always. Any chance you could measure system latency on your testing? Some of us also do things like Audio and video work and these machines would be great for content creation with bigger monitors. Thanks again for all the hard work !
I already have this on preorder. I was waiting for the review units to be shipped out and knew you would be one of the first to have a video on it. Edit: I just finished the video and I never been happier with my preorder. Can't wait to have this as the ultimate emulation station running Launchbox. :D Thank you for the review.
When I got an email about this I ordered it as well. Already have the HX90 which can run Skate 3 on Batocera. Can't wait to try it on the HX90 G. Shame we have to wait until mid November for them to ship.
I've been keeping an eye on mini PCs for one that's just right for my needs, and this may be the one. I'm not much into PC gaming (just never been cozy with it), but I would like something with just the right amount of power to it, and I don't need to run anything beyond 1080p/60fps.
Check out the Topton Ranger. It may be on par with this PC, but you can choose your own video card within the 140 Watt and physical size constraints. I'm hoping to get one, install an XFX Speedster SWFT 210 (AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT), and run the Steam Deck OS!
Yo prime are you also a Launchbox rep/dev? I'm telling you your voice is also the voice for their channel. Either way love both channels and thank you for the content
I am not sure how much value this is for 1000 bucks! It would be helpful if you would show or integrate some comparisons when you show the fps or the benchmarks. For excample: can this Mini PC hold up to a Desktop machine that costs around 800 bucks? Maybe with a Ryzen 5600 and an RX 6600 so that it would be fair to say that 200 bucks are the premium for an out-of-the-box Mini PC? It's always a bit hard to estimate how much value a PC has if there is no comparison in any kind. But besides that it's fast! My old PC (Ryzen 2600, GTX 1050 Ti) plays Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p high. And to see that this Mini PC is doing 1440p high with higher frames is pretty impressive.
Don't know about US, but in Australia this is a good value for money, especially if compared to laptops (I mean, for people that need a "movable" pc platform, without the need for "working" whilst commuting AND can arrange a monitor at the location where they are headed too). Although, reading the comments, it seems there is a Thinkpad for about the same price. I would always go for a brand with more credit...
Can you tell me which Thinkpad should be available for the same price? I feel like it's impossible to get the same specs for the same price on a laptop since you would have to pay for battery and screen which both aren't the cheap parts in a laptop.
I was waiting for you to review this unit. I was looking into the NUC one but this with all AMD will be better for me, as I use Linux as my main drive. Just one question, how is the noise level of this machine? Because if it gets as loud as some laptops, maybe it will be a deal-breaker for me. Thanks for your impressive work
it have to be quieter than laptop, as the cooling system is much, much more effective (7 heatpipes and big heatsinks). Even Lenovo Legion and ASUS ROG (game-specific laptops) have smaller freezers see 2:48, those are NOT laptop coolers, those are definitely PC coolers
I am so tempted to buying one of these over building something. I have a larger desk and can fit a normal PC case on it, however, I have been on a minimalist kick lately. Problem is, for the same price, you can build something with more power. I suppose that is the trade off.
Hi, I have a question: how much noise come out from this mini PC when 4k gaming and could you compare it with the miniforum NUCX17 ? In the future, i hope you can show noise information in all your videos, it will increase your viewers. It is nice to see the noise comparison with gaming laptop.
Loved this video. For my use case scenario, looking forward to playing JRPGs at 4k60, since they are not really demanding to run. Was really impressed by the benchmarks on Spiderman and Forza horizon.
please make video for suggesting which pc or mini buy O watch your videos and enjoying all but what if we want buy pc or mini pc gaming ? which one you suggested please make a video about that
Looks great, I'm gonna grab the Neptune HX99G, same setup, but upgraded with the 6900HX, DDR5, and PCIe 4.0. The 64GB, 1TB SSD version is $1,199. I want something for traveling that I can fit under my car seat for use with my XR glasses.
I am such a fan of Minisforum ... I own their TH50 and use it for work daily and am so happy with it, running it in dual screen mode, and playing a lot of Steam and Gamepass titles on it. But I am exra stoked with this Neptune Ryzen machine! I really want to upgrade to it when it comes out.
You should do a comparison between this, and the coming HX99G (6900HX, DDR5 4800, 680M iGPU + RX 6600) I want to see how good the 1% lows are with the newer DDR5.
nice to see some small gaming pc's coming out. Interesting some companies trying make them small instead of large like i often see. Is their advantage of making a gaming pc so small and compact?
'Tech Yes City' did a review/ benchmark of the MLLSE Radeon RX 6600M, a desktop graphics card using a mobile chip. The card performed about the same as a regular 6600 while using less power, and costing less than $200 USD.

at this point, what can't it do? except 4k, this looks like the best value for a relatively cheap pc.
Just ordered one. Can't wait for it to come in!!
Hey, I’m looking to buy a HX90G is everything ok with your unit ? I hear a lot of bad comments regarding the HX90G some people say that it has a problem with screen tearing in games, freezing and going unresponsive.
@@jayjhon Hadn't received it yet. Could be improper settings used within the games.
Is this the most powerful system on this form factor at the moment? Looks like a 1080p gaming beast. Price is not unreasonable either
No,check out the zotac magnus er zbox which comes with upto a RTX 3080 at the same size.
@UC6BzDPenVOv83Jyt855psBQ Oh really? Then I agree at this 2.8L size, nothing comes close.
I'm very tempted to replace my current travel rig with this. Running a Ryzen 2700 with an RX 5500 XT in a Geeek M5 case. This would be a nice upgrade in specs and a down sizing of the machine.
Looks like a cool candidate for a powerful Hackintosh mini PC!
It’s very tempting to get this I’m more of a console gamer but I want to be able to play retro games and play a select few steam games with my friends so this would be perfect for me
Omfg this is perfect!! 🙌🏾😩😭 Ily
Hey ETA Prime! Great vid as always. Any chance you could measure system latency on your testing? Some of us also do things like Audio and video work and these machines would be great for content creation with bigger monitors. Thanks again for all the hard work !
Awesome profile photo.
@@anon_y_mousse thank you sir!! Browncoats live on…..
Second the video / audio tests!
would also love to see a latency test. software is free and results are near instant.
If they release a model like this next year with RDNA3 and Zen4, I might be tempted to not build a SFF PC as I intend and go for this
Amazing performance :)
Thanks for video
STOP THE BUS.......4K Capable gameplay....insane performance, and with 8gb of fast vram, it should handle gaming for the next few years with ease.
THANK YOU FOR BENCHMARKING HALO INFINITE! Barely anyone uses it as a benchmark until very recently with Jarrod’s Tech so this is very nice to see!
Really interested in the teardown video. I work on the road and change hotels often and these little mini pc's would be so nice.
@@robertrmdgaming4374 HX90 running Skate 3 is pretty awesome! Indeed the wait is the hardest part for this device. :)
@@subdivisionalmass Very true. I want to see if Barocera runs any better on the HX90 G
That is what I am trying to figure out, the best box to emulate everything I throw at it, from NES to PS3.
@@davidrey2732 The standard HX90 can run Skate 3 on Batocera. It's a little jerky at times so can't wait for my HX90 G to arrive.
Was looking at this for a long time, thank you for reviewing it👍
This is a PC I want to save up on. It is worth the wait. 😊
Keep up the hard work, Your videos are truly amazing!
Minisforum is upping their game.
Wow this is actually very impressive.
I'm hoping to get one, install an XFX Speedster SWFT 210 (AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT), and
run the Steam Deck OS!
Yo prime are you also a Launchbox rep/dev? I'm telling you your voice is also the voice for their channel. Either way love both channels and thank you for the content
This is super tempting. I game in 60hz at 1080p. So this would be enough for me.
Looks like Minisforum has another great mini for sale. Ordered a UM580. Hoping it ships soon.
Sheek and nice indeed. Thank you, Prime!
The only thing I would change is the purchasing power of my pennies.
I feel like it's impossible to get the same specs for the same price on a laptop since you would have to pay for battery and screen which both aren't the cheap parts in a laptop.
impressive. this is a fantastic 1440p machine, that on mmo's or games that don't necessarily need super high frame rates, 4k is perfectly fine.
Even Lenovo Legion and ASUS ROG (game-specific laptops) have smaller freezers see 2:48, those are NOT laptop coolers, those are definitely PC coolers
notebookcheck says 35 decibels at max
I’d love to see overclocking results!
I am so tempted to buying one of these over building something. I have a larger desk and can fit a normal PC case on it, however, I have been on a minimalist kick lately. Problem is, for the same price, you can build something with more power. I suppose that is the trade off.
Really good size, but the HDMI only being 2.0b it's a bummer
I'm impressed with the performance of that machine. It would make a great second system.
The price is fair as well.
This is great, looking forward to seeing its performance with video editing…
Hi, I have a question: how much noise come out from this mini PC when 4k gaming and could you compare it with the miniforum NUCX17 ? In the future, i hope you can show noise information in all your videos, it will increase your viewers. It is nice to see the noise comparison with gaming laptop.
35 decibels according to notebookcheck
Loved this video.
For my use case scenario, looking forward to playing JRPGs at 4k60, since they are not really demanding to run. Was really impressed by the benchmarks on Spiderman and Forza horizon.
please make video for suggesting which pc or mini buy
O watch your videos and enjoying all but what if we want buy pc or mini pc gaming ?
which one you suggested
please make a video about that
Looks great, I'm gonna grab the Neptune HX99G, same setup, but upgraded with the 6900HX, DDR5, and PCIe 4.0. The 64GB, 1TB SSD version is $1,199. I want something for traveling that I can fit under my car seat for use with my XR glasses.
Why'd you stop mentioning the BOTW performance? I get not showing footage but letting us know would be useful. Great video as always
Where is that Full Teardown video?!
Is their advantage of making a gaming pc so small and compact?
space saving and more portable
'Tech Yes City' did a review/ benchmark of the MLLSE Radeon RX 6600M, a desktop graphics card using a mobile chip.
The card performed about the same as a regular 6600 while using less power, and costing less than $200 USD.
Interesting, this is also true for the RTX 3060 btw.
The laptop RTX 3060 also performs the same as the desktop 3060 while consuming 50W less
They really setup the new market for mini pc gaming
Can you review the updated model HX99G with overclock and run time spy/fire strike?
Damn I really wish I didn't buy the HX90 a few months ago now! This thing is absolutely perfect.
I want to get my hands on this PC showing 2 of the games I'd play on it God of war and elden ring from what I've seen here what I have in mind playing on it should run flawlessly on it
Would like to see a smaller mini-PC based on a Ryzen 6000-series CPU with RDNA 2 iGPU
A version of that in a beautiful streacom fanless case is my dream computer
Thanks for the review. Just a question tho, when will you be publishing the teardown video of this beast of a PC? Would love to see the other side of the PC
I would like to see you run Nobara, which I heard takes care of all the proton-installation, settings, and other pre-requisites for gaming. Made by the big guy Glorious Eggroll himself.
