Great filmmaker. Great storyteller. Largely under appreciated I still feel.
Things he wants to film, like the story of the Black officer who infiltrated the KKK, in _BlacKkKlansman_ might not be what the Academy wants to see. I think nominees for best directors come from other directors, so Spike Lee and another director need to sponsor more minority directors to become Academy members, so they can vote for each other's work to be official nominees. Of course the Academy still might not vote for his films, but at least they'd be nominated.
This is a really good interview. Good to hear how films impacted his life.
From Ft Greene and beyond. I'm with you, Mr. Spike Lee. "A universe of films", indeed. Story telling. The way it all began.
Please release "JOE'S BED-STUY BARBERSHOP:WE CUT HEADS" out to the public.
How do someone contact Spike Lee or his staff regarding doing a movie on someone's life story?
Body of work
I think I'd rather him receive a special award for "Body of work" or "lifetime achievement" than to be awarded best director Oscar for a film that's not really very good, but because they think "he's due."
The editing was very annoying. There really was no need for all that back and fourth shots.
trust me he doesn't feel blessed haha!
Yet he's doing a terrible job representing the horrible street violence in Chicago with his crap film "Chi-raq" and I can't even comprehend how he's wearing that Chi-raq get-up!
+FilmPassion Productions haven't seen a frame of the film and yet you have such a misguided opinion. If you're involved with film on any level, you'd know to go into one with an OPEN MIND. See more than a 3 minute trailer before you bash anything.
Mr. Marin soooooo, ignoring the other foolishness
A really great interview. I always suspected that Spike Lee gets his inspiration from directors and film makers from around the globe. It was awesome to hear him go into detail.
Thanks AO for posting this interview
+Mr. Marin you stupid as fuck it was supposed to be a documentary.
+Lil Reese's neck my man... I work for 40 Acres. Spike's company. It was never meant to be a documentary. Don't be ignorant and speak on things you know nothing of
He need to go back to his new york movies his ol' ass
short guy alert. impotent rage ahead.
There's a lot to be angry about, unless one wants to go Sleep and not think about it.
How he's better than you a bumm stop hating
he's a really colorful character- it's a shame that his mind is obviously being ravaged by narcolepsy.
