You are spot on about “tradesmen” disappearing. I’ve just retired after 68 years as a mechanical fitter and was asked to come in 2 or 3 days a week because they couldn’t attract any apprentices to start, and its not the money because a skilled man nowadays can command a very good wage, but you’ve got to get your hands dirty and handle grease oil etc and people don’t seem to want that only instant stardom? Well got that off my chest, great to see someone with pride in their profession.
This is so true, we run a local electrical firm, there are apprentices applying but seems to be a gap in skilled guys coming thought right now who know what they are doing and willing to do a hard days graft.
I walked away in 2006 From the Motortrade , Agricultural Contracting, After the Business was sold After they Retired 😢 I was offered the Business but made them Aware that finding Someone that would and could work like me 18/ Hrs a Day as they were not interested and was impossible to find people that wanted to work Long Hrs Also willing to Learn or knew it all and unemployable, As we had bad Experience with 4 people that could not do the job and was a big Disappointment and the reason they Retired it was a nightmare and in 2006 was a Problem but in 2024 virtually impossible 😮 I blame the School Education Sustem for killing off Practical Workshop that produced the People we can't find Today, Sad but True ,At 15 I made a motorbike in the School Workshop machining the Hub's and built the frame around the Honda 90cc Engine and made the front Telescopic Forks and painted the metallic paint even making the Vinyl Seat Cover using my mother's Showing Machine 😅, l am now a Hgv Driver Hiab Operator and Sadly Just Don't Advise Anyone Getting into the Jobs in your videos 😢
What makes your channel different is the variety going on. You have good guys working for you! If you don't know, there's no BS. You say it and learn. I still think you are burning the candle at both ends (U work too much). Arvin is a bit modest! As for manual machining, North America is the same. If it's not cnc, no one's interested UNTIL their backed into a corner and need a one off part! Then its the mom and pop shop to the rescue ! Keep the vids coming! Cheers.
I lost count the amount of times small engineering works got me out of a sticky situation due to dealerships trying to hold you to ransom on overpriced "special parts." Arvin is a genius of a guy to know. Great work on the cat bucket.👍
You’re definitely right about the dying trades Baz, there’s less and less of us younger generation coming in to these skilled roles. Unfortunately we are now living in a throw away world, everything is disposable, so in the coming years less and less will be repaired, more and more will just be written off and replaced
Never fear Baz … Calumz here. Fab welder!! Rolls Royce bucket builder. He could put a fitted kitchen into that latest incarnation of that featured buck.
My husband is 32 and a tool maker R T PHILLIP ENGINEERING based in Waddinton Lancashire and I'm always amazed at how a tool Maker can make anything with such precision. Loving the acknowledgement of this trade, Baz. ❤
I love the variety of jobs you do, and it's a shame to see that the younger generation dont want to follow in arvins' footsteps. Loving the work that cal is doing with the bucket, i was on a site the other day with the volumetric that had a 15 ton excavator with a bucket on that was missing 2 teeth and had about 2" of concrete set in it just a shame to see people not looking after hired machines, just doesnt seem to be much pride in the industry anymore👎 keep up the good work guys 🤙💪
Great episodes again mate. If you think tradesman are dying out then you should try and find a proper jockey who can operate a Cat 953 to its full potential, like rocking horse poop is an understatement. As far as Ebikes go, from my own experience you ideally want to be looking at a bike with a Bosch motor. For reliability and serviceability they are far superior to any othr brand.
Loved the video and job that your team does. Like the fingers in holes comment was always told don't put your finger your not happy putting your tackle. Still have my fingers but a lot of older guys missing end of digits.
I’ve been a car mechanic since leaving school in 87.. the garage I work in has been advertising for mechanics for the last 2 years..my boss even went down the route by talking to the local colleges for an apprentice mechanic..they last 2 weeks maybe a month.. 38:00
Just finished off watching baz had to go work this morning bloody brillant yere videos are getting better and better each time pity ye dont have 2 each week long week waiting for next one that calum is too class his welding is fantastic keep going baz yere top lads
Another great video baz,as a hereford man it's pronounced lemster even though you said it how it looks Thanks for the drinks code, ordered mine Saturday, all the best to you and your top team,Mark
Brilliant episode baz loving the content would love to see the episode on the railhead and how it's run and how different is is to mine as I run my own railhead down in Cambridge keep up the good work 👍
As for the E-bike, look at a gravel bike, on and off road, also more comfortable, clothing is mountain bike gear, baggy and tough, go look in Merlin cycles in Buckshaw village, they'll advise you, and it's five minutes down from Leyland. Good luck Baz&Foxy 👍
I liked how you let Cal finish the bucket how he planned and then you the boss was going to give feedback. Arvin the Indian Father has decades of experience, skill, knowledge etc, it is sad we have no interest from the youth to learn an engineering trade. All the services his precision engineering business provides will all vanish if he has no one in line to continue the hard working business Arvin setup. A great asset to the community, providing a great service for his welder son, Baz 👍🏼.
Absolutely Brilliant video Baz, that drot repair was as good as new . Hat's off too your Indian friend, top class engineering the man is a dieing breed that sort of skill will go with him . 👌👍👍
Baz...I've got a good home gym and it's the best thing I've done...I train harder and longer....I might give that starter pack a go from Holy...keep the content coming Baz....Legend!!
Interesting failure and really nice repair, no matter how temporary it is. And you're right, it's always easy to say an operator was banging the bucket close and fatigued its life out of it. But that's quite the particular design Cat came up with there. Was the assembly repaired before, or maybe line bored and/or oversize bushings? If so I wonder if it was slightly asymmetric and one side bottomed out before the other - then each side would take full force of the rams as they run into the stop one after another. And at an angle they're not supposed to. Even unequal wear in the original bushings might have been enough to get it out of whack for the mount to take the full load of the rams.
Another good ep. Baz having a Ashville moment (train off load video.) good to see some young one learning trades. did anyone see Mike The Scavenger's Dumpster Diving "THE MOTHER LOAD!!!" vid he found a lot of parts, a few of those H brackets Baz had to mod in the last ep.
Looking at getting a warrior welder 350 as my old optiplus saf went wrong so off to Phil weeks to see what they are like. Regarding the gear pinion. If you keep some playdo in your toolbox you can mould around the teeth of the gears.I did this as I had an internal groove I couldn't measure. It worked out good. Avrin is brilliant, would be good to video him doing one of your repairs for a day if that's possible. Brilliant work again
Can you tell me a little about that big orange clamp you used on the bucket? That thing looks the part for sure. Ive never seen that design, I think it would be real handy for my jobs. Thanks Baz!
I found myself necking coffee and energy drinks all week too. After years, it became a habit. Tried something different that decreased my caffeine intake by 200mg. Finally got myself a full nights sleep and saved a tidy sum of money.
I did machining in school, 6th form and during my apprenticeship. Brilliant skill set to have and so useful to be able to make new parts or repair parts as and when required. I went to my old school a few months back during an open day, and the workshop had been completely butchered. No lathes, mills, bench grinders or shaping machines anymore, just a single pillar drill and a 3d printer. When I asked on the reason why, I was told schools are no longer required to teach it as its not on the curriculum. Government are allowing skillsets to die out unfortunately.
Great episode baz and director, great way to start the weekend🙌🏻. As a keen Mountain biker myself id go get yourself a hardtail mtb great for fitness . Although I am tempted to get an ebike 😂
I’d go for something with Bosch motor because the warranty is better and the motor is quite aswell. Just make sure it’s got a Bosch cx motor and a 750wh battery.
just watching you take the pins out on the 953D, six minutes in and can't help but think the customer could have got the bucket jetwashed to make your inspection easier, they obviously knew you were coming and they wanted it back up and running

We are a dying breed….
The 953D was a fantastic job Baz & Cal
Top man Carl great job 👏 can’t wait to see it finished, Hat 🎩 off to see a young man take responsibility and show your skills. Jimmy Scotland 🏴
Great chronicle so impressed with Callum Old skool Engneering from Arvin 100% We were the Engneering kings of the world until plastic cam along
Small engineering machine shops are invaluable in the hgv and plant industry there needs to be a real push to get young people into the industry
Seeing those Devlieg machines, they are the absolute rolls Royce of machine tools, absolutely beautiful and incredibly accurate machines

Lovely job on bucket cal. Keep up the good work lads 👍🏻

Morning baz and director. My favourite part of the weekend is here! Welderfabber time 😊😊
Damn russ you must have nothing at all going on in your life worth a shit
2 Days for that gearing Baz?

Good work and great job on the caterpillar, the bucket rebuild is like triggers new broom !!!!!

Great episode today. Lots of information, plus I like how you help out all the companies you use. Definitely watching Sundays episode 👌

Another great chapter that Cal is some boy what a welder loving his work he needs to get out on site more keep up the great work.
He got a good teacher. Kid is gonna one of the best in the future, still needs a little more guidance

Another great chapter your boys smash anything save customer money and cal is a really good welder baz must have taught him
Be careful with that "dji" its fragile for sure. I just dropped mine on the job and broke the gimble 🤦. Love the show!
Yes its better than a gopro for zoom quality etc but wouldnt last long with what we do, so it only comes out now and then.
Great episode, looking forward to the Sunday one 👍👍👍

The HaiBike brand or cube with bosch motor are the best.Pop into an evans or decathlon store and they should have some for them to try
Weldfabber in a gimpsuit who would have thought it 😂😂
For all you Northerners it is pronounced Lemster.
Aye Leicester. That's what he said
Or Lemner to the locals
'Specialized turbo levo' for e-bike baz.. can't go wrong 💨💨

When you said about square ends and cal said plenty of wear on them 🤣😂🤣
Seriously impressive field repair on the drot almost as good as Cal’s director skills 👌😉
That DJI is a very good cam its a better pic and has a zoom, but delicate and not waterproof, so only gets used now and then when he's not around
Yo baz loving the content your reminding me of Fred Dibner steeple Jack keep it up 👍🏾
Few people have said that to me now 😂 He was a proper legend
What are your thoughts on using hollow rams for getting pins out?
