I spent ages looking at different watches and few months ago I bought SARG007 as my first mechanical watch after seeing your video. My wife got me an Italian leather military style strap to go with it for Christmas, face dials look nice with white stitching on it. I absolutely love this Seiko and wear it daily everywhere, thanks for helping me decide. :)
Thank you very much for bringing this watch to my attention. I’ve been looking at field watches and I think this is the one. Keep up the great work. Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites.
This is a truly beautiful watch, your channel is changing my usual watch snobbery ways and i'm looking to purchase a more entry level watch now, Seiko SARG007 will maybe be it
Just bought the white version SARG005 after watching this review. Also got a really nice Hirsch Lucca strap and it's a beautiful combination. I love watching your videos - great enthusiasm and even handed reviews.
I was going to pick this one up a few months ago and stupidly didn't. Now the prices have shot up OVER $1000!! I'm an idiot! Good stuff TGV 👍 keep'em coming. Nick
TGV, great review again. I'd love to see you review SEIKO alpinist SARB017. I have been wearing them for a few weeks now, such a stunning piece and great value for money.
Hello TUG, Im from Peru im buying this watch and the same strap cordura, the best channel of watches my english is very basic but always see your videos. Suerte y sigue adelante
Just had to drop in here and say I bought the SARG007 completely based on your detailed review. I really like my Timex Expedition because of its legibility but needed to step up my collection so now my SARG sits comfortably on my wrist with a NATO black and white strap.
Very thorough review TGV. Seiko models like this are really cool and they produce watches that can be used! Brands that can boast pieces that still retain the "tool" inspired use are getting fewer. Very very nice! Ciao. Jp PS. dropped u a mail regarding a question u sent me.
Hi TGV. this SARG reminds me a lot of my Alpinist. There are a number of differences of course, aside from the green dial. Sapphire glass and the smaller 38mm case. It's interesting to hear that you have found the SARB033 to be somewhat inaccurate. so far (for around 4 months) the Alpinist has been surprisingly precise for me. From the review it still remains that SARB and SARG ranges still both offer incredible value for money. Great review as always. Thanks, G.
+Gareth Jordan I'm DYING to get my hand on the Alpinist, LIW got them in stock JUST as I was buying the tudor, I was over stretched and could not get both. They are indeed a sweet spot in Seiko. My gripe with accuracy really is minor, bear in mind, it shares the watch box with Omegas, Rollies and all kinds of ETAs, but having said that, it holds its own. Thanks Gareth, great comment, Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry It's just one of those things, there are so many beautiful watches that it would be great to own - and you still have yet to buy back the blue Squale!! Not to mention what other quality pieces you must have your eye on. As you say when you are comparing it to high-end pieces there is I am sure a real discernable difference. But I suppose that just signifies quite how good value these watches are. I'm very much looking forward to hearing your opinion on the Alpinist when you do get hold of one. All the best, G.
Just spotted your video a week ago and loved the watch. Just received (today) the SARG005 (beige face version) and your spot on! Great watch, but the band lets it down. Ordered the ColReb and Hadley Roma bands from Holben's and looking forward to the new look. Great watch. Thanks for the review.
another excellent review and amazing timing as I myself have been researching the sarg line been looking at the sarg009 it's kind of got a tutor Ranger/Rolex Explorer look but definitely still has its Seiko DNA
Wow! I really like that a lot, TGV! And the strap you put on it is perfect. Seriously going to look into getting one of these. BTW, my SARB033 arrives early next week! -Stephen
+The Urban Gentry I purchased this watch based on your review. Hopefully it will arrive next week. I also purchased the Sarg 011 with Colareb strap. I love your passion and knowledge. Please do a review of the Seiko Ananta Line. Curious to see your opinion.
Good review. I just chanced upon it. Wasn't looking for this timepiece, but decided to watch it. Very informative. And that strap goes really well. Good choice! You've got another subscriber. Any idea where I could get the strap. Thanks.
Nice, I was waiting for this review. There's also the SARG005 which has the same case and same movement but with a white dial and black numerals. Comes with a brown leader band. My personal favorite is still the Alpinist (SARB017) and I'm seriously considering getting one from Japan.
Great review! My field watch is a Swiss Luminox 1801 with an ETA 2878 which I purchased primarily for the tritium markers and sapphire crystal. The lume on the Seiko is almost as bright as my tritium at 1/2 the price of the Luminox. The compass bezel feature is really cool! Best-David
+Kev123G Hi Kevin, I tried to get one, sold out at LIW :-( was not quick enough. I was dying to get my hands on one too. They look amazing, that lime!!! Next time hopefully. Cheers, Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV, hope all is well. Nice to see more of the Japanese domestic model watches being reviewed! Nice review as always, I think the Sarb range should be 40mm as I think that is thee sweet spot for everyone. The watch isn't my cup of tea as I prefer the Sarb line to be honest. Keep the reviews coming as I do enjoy your reviews and the way you conduct them. Regards. Connell
+Connell MacCool Thank you Connell, there is a SARB in 40mm with a day/date, I forget the name but it has a white face, really nice. Will have to have a look for you. Always appreciate your honesty. Thanks for watching, Best regards, TGV
I love Seiko and Japanese watches in general... and this one is no exception. A fine classy "field" timepiece... :-) no need to say the vid is excellent! ;-)
Great review. But I think you're mistaken on the dial crystal; several sources confirm that the crystal on the dial is sapphire, but hardlex is used for the display back.
Great review, thank you. I would love to hear your take on the Seiko watches with the 4R36 and 37 movements. The SRP's and SAA's. Hacking and winding are featured at maybe the lowest prices available for these features. Maybe the very nice looking SRP665 with the blue face and blue compass bezel, which currently may be had for under $150. Thanks again, and keep up the super work!
Ahhhh you got me looking, which ended up with me finding the other SARG watches. Now I might have to buy a SARG015. No good, the bug had subsided for some time.
Hi TGV absolutely lovely seiko and Los great on that strap. I've taken my seiko on holiday with another watch lol I've got a new seiko coming soon from Japan and really can't wait for it to arrive. Anyway hope you are well? Regards Vincent
+Vincent swissvince Blake Very well thanks Vincent, strainer everyday. Which Seiko did you end up getting? The Alpinist sold out at LIW so I missed my chance :-( Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry I've got the alpinest coming straight from Japan. A family member was over there with work and I asked if he could grab one for me. Really can't wait as I've looked at some close up pictures of this model and it looks fantastic. I might be buying another watch tonight as I've found a little watch shop here in Cala d or All the best Regards Vincent
Thank you for the great review. You say can't swim with it with 100m water resistance. Did you mean you can't dive with it? I thought 100m resistance meant that swimming would be safe. (I have a SARB033 -- don't want to ruin it). Best Regards, Andrew
Enjoyed this review. It looks a lot like the 38mm SARB017 Alpinist with green dial, sapphire glass and 200m water resistance that is only a little bit more at Islandwatch and much nicer finish overall. I would love to see a review of that or a comparison review between the Orient Black Ray Raven and the Seiko all black PVD SRP311.
+Dale Clark Thank you, glad to hear you enjoyed it. The Alpinist is GORGEOUS and I don't even really like green! They sell out quick so I will have to wait and see. I will see what I can do, great suggestions there. Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry Just to be clear, its a reproduction, reissue of the original. Lovely watch.forums.watchuseek.com/f29/sold-benrus-military-watch-re-issue-395131.html
You can swim with 10 atm water resistance. I done it for years with a casio edifice 10atm wr and it s fine. You can t dive with them but swiming is absolutely fine.
you got the perfect strap for the watch!!!! I usually prefer matching coloured date wheel but here the contrast white date wheel works well! what do you think?
Hi TGV, I have one of these, please note you are mistaken, the main watch crystal on all of Seiko's SARG line including this one is actually sapphire, same as the SARBs. You can check this on websites and reliable suppliers such as Seiyajapan or Chino and I'm sure Long Island Watch will confirm the same. The caseback crystal is hardlex, that is correct. Otherwise a very nice review. I liked! Cheers!
I've seem a couple videos you have done on lume comparisons, which were great. Have you considered including lume shots (either video or photos superimposed over the video) for the watches you review?
Great watch but i already got the Alpinist. You didn't mention whether it is available in other dial colors. Can you talk a little bit about pins/spring bars sometime ,since you change straps A LOT and there seems to be a great difference in their thickness and quality. Thanks.
Very nice video. This watch may be a bit too large for me. If you don't mind my asking, how large is your wrist? I think my wrist is 7". I don't want the lugs to extend outwards without resting on my wrist. I want a field watch but I need to be frugal. I have been looking at the Seiko 5 and 5 Sport but I was wondering what the next step up would avail me. Is this sarg007 that next step up or is there another Seiko placed between? I really would like a hackable watch but I don't have a need for that second crown. BTW, for what is that compass thing used?
I had the standard model with a patina/yellow dial, date, and a brown leather band. Simple, elegant, and had that history that I so love. I am missing mine as well!
I like the "look" of the watch but don't know how a compass will work on the watch... I'm going to do my homework on that ;-) Great vid, thanks for sharing!
I've been going a bit crazy with your videos lately watching them late into the night. I'm very much new to mechanical/automatic watches and find them fascinating. I'm finding myself liking these types of tool/field watches as I bought a Seiko 5 SNK809 as your recommendation. Would you ever do a comparison video between the SARG007 and Hamilton Khaki Field H70555533? Wish I could purchase both!
+Georgi Tushev I have almost bought the 011 many times, a friend of mine has it and its amazing, one of the best lumen I have ever seen. Totally recommend it. Best regards, TGV
I like field watches, but I would choose to spend slightly more and buy a Hamilton. I actually did buy a Khaki recently and I am very happy with my decision. I got mine barely used, so it ended up being about the same price as the Seiko. I much prefer the details of the Hamilton, the case finish, the numerals, the red on the seconds hand, the sapphire crystal and the really nice strap that it comes with. The bezel on the Seiko is really cool though.
+8Seven65 Perfectly understandable, Hamilton certainly dominate the field watch genre so its a hard task to beat, none the less, thank you for the comment, Best regards, TGV
Don't worry too much about the compass being easy to accidentally bump, you don't walk around staring at the watch keeping the bearing, you use the bezel to find the direction you need to go, then look for a landmark to walk towards, then you can forget what the bezel says and keep walking, taking a new bearing once you reach that landmark.
What a cool intro TGV!!!!!!!!!,.....and a good video as always,, love seiko and thats a great looking watch...... How is the recovery btw, how do you feel ?
+Bryanet Hello! Hope you are well, doing very well thanks, almost back to normal and feeling great. Just got to get back into shape and apart from the addition of more scars its almost as if it never happened. Only thing is, I can't seems to sneeze without pain. But I am such that will go. Oh well, onwards and upwards! Thanks for asking my friend. Best regards, TGV
Nice watch and I love your strap choice. Honestly you flashed the sarb033 and I got tempted by that more. Seiko puts hardlex in lots of watches, are there different grades of hardlex?
+Sandy Beachcomber I can understand that, regardless Seiko do what they do so well, even if you don't like it, its hard not to respect what they do. Thank you for watching, Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV, I love your videos, especially your review videos and gentleman essentials/etiquette instructional videos. I'm wondering if I can ask for your advice. I've been looking for a classic/military mechanical watch like this but all black pvd. The best looking I've found is the Hamilton "Jack Ryan" watch which would be my grail if it did not have a messed up date/ 3 o'clock dial. Also even though its a diver, the Orient Ray Raven you reviewed a while ago looks great but not as classic and easy to read as say a Timex Weekender, it is more in my price range however. I am trying to keep my price range as low as possible, but also want to get my first mechanical/automatic. Any suggestions in this criteria?
Nice video TGV! Love the SARG007, but I prefer the SARB017 "Alpinist" a bit more. Do they offer smaller sized SARG007 like the Hamilton Khaki Field line ? Regards, Verne
+Verne I wanted to get my hands on the Alpinist SOOOOOO badly, but LIW sold out in a matter of days. As for a smller SARG007, sadly not sorry. Great comment, thank you. Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry too bad for the SARG007. A really close friend of mine has the Alpinist; it is a nice timepiece. You should add it to your collection when it is available. Regards, Verne
Well TGV I felt in a good enough mood that I posted my first and maybe only ever watch video. Let's just say this is not as polished as an Urban Gentry production but it was fun. Maybe one day I will do one about this Sarg007. I think it would look really, really nice on my wrists.
What do you guys think about wearing this with a suit? I don't dress formally often and I don't want a classic dress piece, more like something I could wear everyday and dress it up with a nicer strap for formal outfits. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I don't know how you find the time to do all of these awesome videos aside from your daytime job. Any chance you could get LIW to lend you the SARB017 for review?
+Andrew Poon I tried my friend, they sold out soooooo quick, by the time I knew they had them in they sold out! Next time hopefully. Cheers Andrew, Best regards, TGV
Hey TGV, a quick question for you: which took do you use to switch out your watch bands? I recently put a NATO band on my Omega Seamaster, and I wanted to know the best tool if I ever wanted to switch it back to my stainless steel bracelet.
Bah! I cannot get hold of the SARG007 anymore and I am having trouble picking between SARG011 & the SARB017. After a daily watch that can cover from field to desk and from "casualish" through to smart with simply changing a strap. How does the green dial of the 017 hold up in more casual situations? I like the uniqueness of the 017 over the 011. If you were picking one which one would you go for? Oh, I too have tiny wrists ;)
I haven't but I often get it wet when washing hands or hiking in the rain and so far it hasn't even misted inside.
Kamran Ahmed i take mine swimming absolutely no problem!
Thank you very much for bringing this watch to my attention. I’ve been looking at field watches and I think this is the one. Keep up the great work. Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites.

We bought this watch for our son for Christmas 2 years ago, it's a lovely watch.
This is a really tempting watch, and has been for some time. I have a field watch problem. I want them all! Great video!
TGV, great review again. I'd love to see you review SEIKO alpinist SARB017. I have been wearing them for a few weeks now, such a stunning piece and great value for money.
like to see the sarb017 against the sarb045. the nicest dial colours of the sarb line up. cheers

Grabbed the only one I could find on amazon ($589). Longisland watches has sold out (prolly thanks to your review) Great review. Cheers
The cordura strap on that watch is a great pairing. Try pair that with your sinn, I'm sure it be a great combo as well.
Hi TGV. this SARG reminds me a lot of my Alpinist. There are a number of differences of course, aside from the green dial. Sapphire glass and the smaller 38mm case. Great seeing a review on a SARG. Cheers.
I love your vids. Thanks for the hard work. Where is a great place to buy this watch. I really want to add a field watch to my collection. Thank you

Hardlex, hmm. Hamilton does sapphire in the same price range. might be enough to dissuade a purchase.
Seiko does sapphire at a lower price range. The SARB009 has sapphire
The sapphire on Hamilton watches are super reflective.
Ahhhh you got me looking, which ended up with me finding the other SARG watches. Now I might have to buy a SARG015. No good, the bug had subsided for some time.
Love the style of this watch. Great review!

I've seem a couple videos you have done on lume comparisons, which were great. Have you considered including lume shots (either video or photos superimposed over the video) for the watches you review?
+patientx77 I meant for all the watches you review, as you have done with this particular video.
Great review!! It certainly reminds my of the Hamilton Field Khaki that I sold.....now i'm wishing I hadn't!
+Amateur Watch Collector Indeed. Which one did you have? I miss my Khaki king II terribly I must say.
Cheers,
Best regards,
TGV
I had the standard model with a patina/yellow dial, date, and a brown leather band. Simple, elegant, and had that history that I so love. I am missing mine as well!
the governor! Again, excellent video from the best horologist i know. Btw, what are your thoughts about the SARG009?
+paolo zafra Thank you so much Paolo, very flattered.
Best regards,
TGV
I like the "look" of the watch but don't know how a compass will work on the watch... I'm going to do my homework on that ;-)
Great vid, thanks for sharing!
+daltonjr Thank you Dalton!
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you for adding the wind and hack over graphic. It seems that you seldom think of these features while reviewing.
Great job! I will love to hear your thoughts on SARG011, very humble watch in my opinion.
+Georgi Tushev I have almost bought the 011 many times, a friend of mine has it and its amazing, one of the best lumen I have ever seen.
Totally recommend it.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you, sir!
that's a great review, very professional.
+Johnston Pettigrew Thank you Johnston,

I like field watches, but I would choose to spend slightly more and buy a Hamilton. I actually did buy a Khaki recently and I am very happy with my decision. I got mine barely used, so it ended up being about the same price as the Seiko.
I much prefer the details of the Hamilton, the case finish, the numerals, the red on the seconds hand, the sapphire crystal and the really nice strap that it comes with.
The bezel on the Seiko is really cool though.
+8Seven65 Perfectly understandable, Hamilton certainly dominate the field watch genre so its a hard task to beat, none the less, thank you for the comment,
Best regards,
TGV
A good looking piece. As you said it isn't the most accurate movement. How many seconds does it gain / loose daily?Great review, thanks TGV.
+John Rycroft Thank you John, I will have to get back to you on that one.
Best regards,

That is nice. The japanese keep the good stuff and we get the 5 series. Casio do it with the G shock to. Perfect strap match.
Now that the SARG007 is discontinued do you know of any other field watches of similar quality?
Christopher wish they made something to take its place.
could you do a review on the SNZG13, if you get the chance. your reviews are so good. also would like to hear your opinion on it.
Be great to see a review on the new Seiko Diver Marinemaster SBDX017 and/or Grand Seiko SBGA029
Superb video. Pls can you tell where you got the rings from?
What a cool intro TGV!!!!!!!!!,.....and a good video as always,, love seiko and thats a great looking watch......
How is the recovery btw, how do you feel ?
+Bryanet Hello! Hope you are well, doing very well thanks, almost back to normal and feeling great.
Just got to get back into shape and apart from the addition of more scars its almost as if it never happened. Only thing is, I can't seems to sneeze without pain. But I am such that will go.
Oh well, onwards and upwards!
Thanks for asking my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
Nice watch and I love your strap choice. Honestly you flashed the sarb033 and I got tempted by that more. Seiko puts hardlex in lots of watches, are there different grades of hardlex?
Hi really enjoyed the video what brand is the strap looks amazing with the that gray strap
Good review, thank you.
I own Seiko's, and I like most of their models but I'm on the fence with this one.
+Sandy Beachcomber I can understand that, regardless Seiko do what they do so well, even if you don't like it, its hard not to respect what they do.
Thank you for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Qué chiiiiido están esos relojes papá. Presta pa'la orquesta.
Are you able to provide a view on how this watch compares to the SARB017?
Hi TGV,
I love your videos, especially your review videos and gentleman essentials/etiquette instructional videos.
Best regards,
TGV
+The Urban Gentry too bad for the SARG007. A really close friend of mine has the Alpinist; it is a nice timepiece.
You should add it to your collection when it is available.
Regards, Verne
is Hamilton Field Khaki King worth to pay extra money over this model?
hi sir, any advise on how to remove steel bracelet of sarb?
I didn't like this Sarg at first but it is starting to grow on me. Very masculine looking watch I think.
+Xombiticus I felt exactly the same way. Masculine indeed.
Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Well TGV I felt in a good enough mood that I posted my first and maybe only ever watch video.
Let's just say this is not as polished as an Urban Gentry production but it was fun. Maybe one day I will do one about this Sarg007. I think it would look really, really nice on my wrists.
I'm familiar with the 6r15 but what time variance are you personally getting with this and the sarb? Thanks, great videos!
Hi TGV, may I ask which strap do you have on your SARB033 in this video? Thanks in advance!
What do you guys think about wearing this with a suit? I don't dress formally often and I don't want a classic dress piece, more like something I could wear everyday and dress it up with a nicer strap for formal outfits. Any thoughts? Thanks.
where is this Codura strap from? also where did you get the green leather strap on your Alpinist? Thank you so much, I hope to hear from you!
+finalnode Holbens,
I did a full review of it in one of my "strap" videos,
Amazing strap, still love it!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I don't know how you find the time to do all of these awesome videos aside from your daytime job. Any chance you could get LIW to lend you the SARB017 for review?
+Andrew Poon I tried my friend, they sold out soooooo quick, by the time I knew they had them in they sold out! Next time hopefully.
Cheers Andrew,
Best regards,
TGV
