  • This instructional video shows the step by step build of the table leg assembly of the Avid Pro 48x48 CNC. This video is part 1 of a series of step by step videos documenting the build process done at Steel Blade Woodworks shop. We explain the different process and tools used throughout the assembly of the CNC router. We used products from Harbor Freight, Amazon, Milwaukee, Dewalt and many others.

One thing I was noticing with the new 80/20 gussets is that they go on afterwards and not before the crossmembers.

Well I do know there is revisions stated in the instructions stating to follow certain steps if CNC was purchased after certain dates. That being said it would be logical to say that these detailed instructions are often updated to represent new items and styles being implemented into their CNC’s.

Nice! My avid literally shipped today. Good tip on the anti sieze! So with the glue stick loctite on all the fasteners, what happens when you go to square the machine? Maybe loosen the offending bolts and it should be fine?

Thank you for watching. Honestly mine was perfectly square after I finished assembling the table. Maybe I was lucky, hey I’ll take it tho lol. If you have to loosen the bolts after the fact to square up you’ll be okay. Just make sure your using the blue medium grade locktite. It took me two of the bigger tubes to assemble my 4x4. Once you start the assembly process you’ll know what needs locktite and what doesn’t. If you run into any issues and you need some help hit me up and I will gladly help. If you have and Instagram account you can reach me @joey.steelblade and just shoot me a DM. Again thank you for watching and I hope to have Part 2 out soon!!!

Thank you sir, appreciate the detailed overview and sharing your adventure.
I’m about to invest in this same model and curious whether it would make more sense building my own table using wood vs purchasing this table from Avid?

Thank you, glad you found the video helpful. In my opinion I would buy the table kit from Avid. The rigidity you’ll get from the leg kit with the gussets they incorporate is needed. With no doubt this can be accomplished with a wooden table, but with the price of lumber these days I believe you would end up spending the same or more to accomplish the sturdiness needed. This CNC is a tank and when that gantry is moving and changing directions it needs to be on something solid. I hope this helps in your decision. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Good luck and congratulations!!!

Hello and thank you for the video I'm going to start my build soon and will add the lub when it arrives. At time 20:32 you have a leg set on the bench. I wonder if you or anyone else has thought of using "T braces" at the intersection of the crossbar and legs to provide additional support? Additionally you could place "L brackets in other location to provide extra support.
Do you think this would help, or not really needed?
One other question about your computer setup. I can't see the computer to know what kind "laptop, small tower or small fan-less" type, but how is that monitor setup? I see the smaller one on the bench and the larger one mounted on the ceiling in the corner.
Can you discuss how you have that setup? Is that one long cable or do you have some video extender?

I can say that when I’ve had the CNC running close to 300 IPM you can feel the CNC shake when the gantry makes moves in other directions. It’s not much at all that would cause an issue in my opinion, but adding more support would not hurt either. One thing I will clarify on these videos that I missed and will address in my wrap up video are the linear bearings. There is actually an orientation on how they are placed on the rails. I had one of my other subscribers point that out. How I missed that is beyond me, but I will address that issue. Thank you for your feedback and I hope your enjoying the series of videos. If I can be of any help do not hesitate to reach out and I will try my best to answer your questions. Again thank You for taking the time to watch my content I greatly appreciate it.

I just finished the leg set for the PRO60120. Your video helped out a lot until it got up to the 45 degree supports. For my kit they switched to 80/20 pieces instead of steel braces and they are put on after the table top with all the cross members are on.
I'm thinking I missed something as I followed along reading the instructions and looking at your video for the same steps.
Did you use Loctite? I saw it on the bench, but I didn't see you use it. I've seen other videos where people use Loctite, but I'm concerned with the time it take when you put it on until you tighten that piece.
How long is too long and I think I'm going to have to take things apart and start over. But with the table as it is I can do it one leg at a time so that I don't have to pull it all apart. This way I have short time periods between when the Loctite is added and when it is tightened down.
So, did you add Loctite to all those bolts and I just didn't notice it? When I add the eight cross braces I'll use Loctite then.

The legs did get locktite and the 45 degree supports did as well. The only thing I did on the supports is I waited until I was going to tighten them which I didn’t show applying it. I was to concerned that it would dry. It’s a bit of a tedious process doing them one at a time, but that’s how I did it. The only thing I didn’t add loctite to was the cross member support that holds the electronics. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching bud!!!
