Cell phones and the internet have ruined live music. Obviously, you can see everyone at this concert living in the moment without thinking about what they're gonna post to Instagram. Also, back in the day, the only way you ever knew what a band looked like was their album's liner notes or maybe a pic in a music magazine. There weren't 600,000 pictures/videos of No Doubt at your fingertips. So suddenly seeing them come to life before your eyes was a magical thing. Thanks for posting this video of better times!
Believe me or not, I guess I’m the only one who’s usually standing in the crowd without making a video 🤷♀️ I prefer, as you say, “live the moment”, and I’m not comfortable with other people making vids and posting 🤷♀️
It's ruined music in general, not just live music. That's why I've been praying more people will realize this and strive to bring back live scenes, especially local rock scenes. Dedicated venues that encourage musicians would go a long way.
So true, and now all the youth look the same with boys sporting the broccoli head haircuts and girls with big pants and long hair. There were so many style’s when I was a teenager in the 90’s, we had mods, preps, skinheads, rude boys and girls, grunge etc……
The engergy this band had, it's amazing. And particularly Gwen Stefani to run around like that and still sing with so much force. I'm in awe! And I loved the fact that they didn't change outfits throughout the concert. Gwen was just so cool, sweating like crazy and it was all okay. The music and the vibe was more important than looking perfect.
I’m almost 50 and I’m proud that in my youth there were no freakin cell phones, no Facebook or IG. Look at how much those kids got down! No distractions. Just rockin! ✊🏽
this is incredible. im so happy we have another version of the tragic kingdom set in high quality. even though gwen has changed, im so grateful we still have material like this coming out years later.
Next week, we'll feature another performance from the iconic 1997 No Doubt concert, which took place at the Honda Center, previously known as the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim.
Saw them open up for BUSH during 96-97. They were pretty good live back then, and a tight band. This is really great quality for 97! Back then songs were like 4-5min long. When you put on an album, you just sat there and listen to it. Miss those days!
Great quality for 97?, what an odd comment. This was broadcasted on television and had state of the art sound and visuals as any tv station would have or hire
@@swanneez5246 I’m watching on an 4k Oled and yeah most stuff from 97 on UA-cam doesn’t have great quality. Just commenting on them having an original quality stream of the broadcast. A lot of stuff back then was thought about on CRT TVs and you couldn’t tell 240p on those. The performance was shot on high quality gear, and Op provided that. That’s all I’m saying. You don’t always get that from 90s performances on UA-cam. Unless someone remastered, or had access to the original source later. Usually it’s old VCR tapes, or a substandard home recording digitized, then Re uploaded.
That was a great band it's sad they're not doing any tours. They should do a cross roads type of setup. Have all the great ska, reggae, dance hall, punk etc. That would be epic.
The consummate entertainer..Gwen Stefani in her prime during this era. I was lucky enough to be in college at the time and unless you lived at this same time it would be hard to describe how massive they were in the mid to late 90s. Good luck getting a concert ticket at that time.
Pure ska/punk, how good those times were, no extravagance, just a rock concert, I look at other bands from the same generation like the cranberries, nightwish, guano apes, and evanescence that have faithfully maintained their baselines to this day, and I wonder why no doubt and gwen have changed so much?
Cuz Gwen got super weird trying to be another Britney Spears. She has her fans but I don’t know anyone who would choose modern solo Gwen over 90’s no doubt.
What a cool concert, thanks for sharing. Great sound and video quality. I wish I had been there too. Statenhal no longer exists. I live 5 minutes away from where it used to be. I was 17 when they played there.
57:15 amazing ode to one of their good friends that at this point they had recently lost - Bradley Nowell…came on the scene around the same time. Died so young, his son did an amazing job fronting the original lineup a couple months an ago and hope they can usher in a new era of Sublime, and with No Doubt reuniting??? that’d be a tour I’d drop some serious $$$ for!!!
I saw them play with The Vandals around this time. I had such a crush on Gwen as a kid. I loved this time because you had ska bands like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, etc., really breaking out. Better times. Mainstream music is absolute trash tier nowadays. The '60s, '70s', '80s, '90s, and even '00s had lots of great mainstream music, and obviously bad stuff, too, but nowadays it's all bad. Since I wasn't alive from the '60s throughout most of the '80s, it's not a nostalgia thing. Those decades just had fantastic music, something the 2010's and 2020's didn't/doesn't have.
Not one of my favorite bands of the 90’s but definitely a part of my soundtrack of my youth. This brings so much beautiful memories, what a different world it was back in the 90’s. Grateful to have been there. Thank you for uploading. ✌🏻😎
What a treat! Saw them live and just as good but i was so far up they looked like small crickets down below. I dont remember one moment of stillness. A masterclass in entertainment and mastering of craft. Finally got to see them up close!!!! 🙂👍 YAY!!!! & THANK YOU!!!!! 🤘😔🎸
All the boys singing I'm Just a Girl is so funny. this concert proves Gwen is a special kind of girl the kind that holds qualities all guys Love in them innocence meets craziness mixed up with brillience and intellect.
I didn’t realize Oingo Boingo’s influence on them especially on the opening song. They have their own thing going on and were arguably at the top of their game but Fishbone and Oingo Boingo kind of laid down the sound at the time for that So. Cal first wave of ska/punk/ mixed in with 30’s big band imagery but were not really in the spotlight at this particular time in music. A lot of people forget No Doubt were an extension of that scene.
Que buena era esta banda en esta época, yo llegué a estar totalmente obsesionado con ell@s , había la gente que les gustaban las Spice Girls y a mi me molaba No Doubt
