    This is billed as "Basics". One would expect to learn how to use Gradients for the first time. I watched half the presentation before being overwhelmed by infinite details of history and multiple ways to do every step. I don't need to know 15 cool ways to do something I'm just trying to do one way, for the first time. I'm sure this is great for someone who knew how GIMP worked before.

      This. Gradient tool is just filling for me when it should fade away. I've used it before and didn't do this, and guides are either confusing like this or in a heavy accent in most other videos.

    Thanks, Mr. Davies, I purchased your Gimp photo editing course. Your clear and distinct voice along with your in-depth instructions helped me start my corporate headshot business. I recommend this course for anyone starting out using gimp 2.10.

      That is awesome! I'm excited that my course/tutorials were able to help you get your new venture off the ground. Best of luck to you, and thanks for the positive review!

    Mr. Davies, I did all your instructions, but my gradient tool doesn't show any input. The line thing shows up but no gradience, even if I push the enter button. It's just the transparent screen that I created to test it. I need help.

    Mr. Davies, I need to draw a schematic with concentric orange and blue colours from the centre in two circles and a green colour gradient from the outermost circle to gradually fading outwards. I am not able to draw the fading green colour around the circles in between, please help me.

    Why don't I have any of the buttons you say to hit, crucially, the one to select colors? (2:08)

    I'm on 2.10.18 and am not seeing the 3:28 extra tools you have under export, can these be found on the file menu bar somewhere?

      what you do is click on the "tools" button on the top of the page then "paint tools" and press gradients. or i think you can just press G

    I have a slight problem with mine. Every time I put a gradient on and try to save the image, it goes back to the original background (which is white). It's a new blank image, so i don't know what I'm doing wrong or if I'm missing a step. If possible, could you help me with this? If not, that's okay. Thank you for your patience!

    • @DaviesMediaDesign
      @DaviesMediaDesign  6 років тому +1

      Hey Erik - you have to grab another tool first to "apply" the gradient to the composition before you do anything else. I typically just click on the move tool, and that applies the gradient to the image. Then you can save your image. If you just draw the gradient and then try to save the image, it will essentially erase the gradient. Let me know if that fixes the issue.

    • @cbar687

      i tried it out and it fixed the issue! Thanks so much!

    How do you delete a custom gradient? I right click on one I created but the delete option is grayed out, online help just says you can delete it if you have permission. Is this an uninstall/install as administrator deal?

    • @DaviesMediaDesign
      @DaviesMediaDesign  6 років тому

      You can just redraw another gradient and the default custom gradient should regenerate. You can't delete the custom gradient in your Gradients panel because it is simply the active gradient - unless, that is, you save a custom gradient using the "create new gradient" icon.

    16:47 is all I wanted to know. Why is there no simple 'Apply' button? Took me way too long to figure out how to apply the gradient.

    they should simplify the interface its far too bitsy and takes up too much space . For something as simple as applying a gradient in PS for example why all the fuss?

    I'm trying to give many little pieces a gradient at once, but this tool is now allowing me because it wants to paint the whole canvas. Ugh

    Your choice of colors leaves a lot to be desired. We can barely see the gradient. Thankfully, you're very good teaching it.

    How about some real-life examples of how this tool would be applied in photos or graphic design? Personally I find the description of features without real-world applicability to be as useful as reading a TV instruction manual without turning on a TV. I know others are getting great value from this as it is, but I'm certain you would get exponentially better comments if you applied all your instructions to real life images that would be applicable in the commercial world, or for personal use. Otherwise, for me, it was just ok.

    • @DaviesMediaDesign
      @DaviesMediaDesign  6 років тому

      There are myriad videos on my channel demonstrating the real-life application of this - though I hear your concern about them not being directly in this video. Perhaps I could do a better job of linking to those videos from this video. However, if you watch my videos this is probably the most common tool - if not one of the most common - that I use throughout my tutorials. Thanks for the comment, and for watching!
