      Yeah I loved Heartbeat but I have to say it went for far too long. Once Greengrass had left it wasn't the same, I never liked Vernon, David and Peggy, they were cringeworth and annoying, David got on my nerves at times with his overacting of his simpleton personality. Even Blaketon wasn't the same, Derek Fowlds' posh accent became more obvious as the seres went on as if he couldn't be bothered to make an effort. I think it should've ended on a nice note when Greengrass left, maybe have Greengrass fall in love and move away with someone. I heard that Juliette Gruber who played Jo Weston already had plans to leave the show because she went to live in France with her boyfriend (odd they made no mention of this in these interviews), so if Nick hadn't decided to leave they would've had to come up with a storyline where Nick and Jo split up and she leaves Nick or dies.

    I’m looking at “Heartbeat” nearly every day on the Norwegian television. I like it a lot. 😊👍🏻 I just discovered that Nick Berry also is singing. Very beautiful voice. I should have been in Aidensfeel/Goatland on my 70 years birthday in 2020, but the Covid stopped it. Sorry for that. Maybe next time when I go to England. 😊👍🏻

      Thanks for the comment, nice to hear Heartbeat's being shown in Norway. I remember watching the show when it was first shown on ITV in the UK in 1992, mainly because my dad had alot of fond memories of the 60s as a teenager. We visited Goathland in May 1994 for the first time, had a look around the Aidensfield Arms and the garage (which at the time wasn't named Scripps but Mostyn's after the character Malcolm Mostyn who only appeared in the show for a few episodes) back then the garage had a working petrol pump where you could fuel up but later became just a prop set I think. We then travelled to Greengrasses farm house and then to the train station. We would often visit the police station which is about 40 miles away from Goathland at a place called Askwith near Leeds and the location used for the police station which was a short drive away in Otley. Beautiful breathtaking countryside. I liked the earlier series more than the later series, just wasn't the same after Nick and Greengrass had left. Hope you get to visit Goathland one day.

      Wish I had more, but I don't sadly. Tbh I don't think any of the cast did many interviews like this, though I know the later characters like David and the later PCs did, but I really couldn't be bothered with Heartbeat by then it just went downhill. For me Heartbeat was from 1992-2000.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01  2 роки тому +1

      @@okiern125 I would say they were like the ideal couple that we want couples to be like. But couples like that don't really exist in the real world, certainly not today. What I've found kind of odd about Nick and Kate (probably down to writers of the series really), is that at no point in the show do we see any photos of them in the house, no wedding photos on the sideboard, on walls etc, no photos of them or their off-screen families hung up, apart from one photo I believe showing Nick and Kate, which I think was taken during the second of third series when Kate altered her hair style. I thought that was strange but it's likely down to the writers not bothering to go into their family backgrounds as it would've been irrelevant I suppose to the storylines. They could've at least done a mock up wedding photo to make it look like they were a married couple.

      He seemed it, but he seemed a very quiet and shy and inward person. He wasn't a great actor though, god knows how he made it as an actor, but coming from Eastenders it's not surprising as soap actors aren't renown for talent, but he played the part of Nick Rowan great someone we wish in real life were actually the police instead of the idiots we have. Pity the Heartbeat Canadian special never got made into a series.

    He should have pursued a music career and he should have forgot about all that 1950s and 1960s influences and stuck with what sounded good in the '80s and early 1990s

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01  Рік тому

      Good point. I don't think his music career prior to being in Heartbeat was all that successful though, many of his songs were rather corny and weren't big hits. I have noticed in a number of HB episodes songs which appeared to have been sung by Nick which don't appear in any of the known songs he has recorded officially. I wish I knew which episodes these were as it means going through them, but I think one ep was from probably series 6 or 7 when he was still in the show; I'm sure I remember hearing a song in the background which was sung by him. I'm guessing he just recorded a one off song (maybe a cover song) just for the episode and was never a proper release.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01  2 роки тому +5

      I agree, Heartbeat completely lost its way after Nick left, and though we still had Greengrass, which was good, I think the character had become too much of a comedy act, but still nothing was worse than Vernon Scripps, and Bernie, David as a comedy act, later Peggy. They completely ruined the seriousness of the show IMO. I suppose I can't just blame those 3 characters, the scriptwriters were to blame, and I think having Oscar Blaketon initially run the village post office and later the Aidensfield Arms, considering he was a former police Sgt, to me never felt right, but I suppose they had to have something for him to do otherwise he'd have left. Also making Lord Ashfordley into a likeable person who became acquainted with everyone in the pub, again didn't suit the character.

      @@victoriousrufus6747 True, but I think too much silliness and them making far too many episodes per series ruined it IMO. I can't believe the village in Goathland had "Save Heartbeat" petitions in the windows when I went there in 2009, I don't what would the point be in continuing with the series, as much as it was the only good thing on TV, it had finally run out of steam. Obviously the locals didn't want to lose the tourists.

      @@neilberry1552 Yeah good point, would've been nice to see him come back to the village for a one off, especially as Kate was buried there and that she was Katie's mum. Even when they were leaving you never see Nick, Jo or Katie visit Kate's grave for the final time before leaving, they could've filmed a scene with this but sadly they didn't. There was no mention of Kate again.

    As much as I loved Heartbeat it wasn't without its downfalls and for me "jumped the shark" once Greengrass left, probably before that as well as some of the 6th and 7th series started to become a little tedious and silly and the guest characters were annoying and obnoxious and very wooden, but nothing was worse series 10 onwards once Bill Maynard left due to a stroke; having Vernon take over the role with David really ruined it for me, far far too much silliness and comedy and not enough realistic drama all for the sake of the older, rose tinted spec Sunday audience. And also making too many episodes per series didn't help either.
