    Small correction: When it comes to kicking multiple kicks mid air, you can still kick more than 3 kicks with that same leg up as long as you land on the target, but not more than 2 mid air. So you can fake mid air twice maximum.

      I had a chance to talk with an International Referee this weekend who recently did Canadian Nationals and she said that they are now going with two repeating/mix kicks (geodeup / seokkeo chagi) maximum before resetting your foot to the floor whether you miss or hit. There is apparently going to be a revision of some sort voted on/released over the coming month which will clarify and alter some things.
      Interestingly, they will not break apart a clinch anymore, but rather will give the "fight' command, at which point one or both fighters will be given a gam-jeom based on whether or not there was any attempt to score.
      Pushing must be done with the hands, not the body (body pushing will give an avoidance gam-jeom), pushing with the hands may not exceed 1 second and must be followed up with a scoring attempt.
      For best of 3 format the amount of penalties to lose a round has been moved from 4 to 5. The Daedo TrueScore software to run a best of 3 style match with the gam-jeom per round cap has not been released yet but is apparently anticipated soon.
      We just had a local tournament with some of these rules in effect and it was an interesting change of pace for the matches.

      @@W1Taekwondo actually it would not change my style. I am in a middle of new and old school but leaning more towards New school with front leg my favorite. Poor man version of Pannipak but hey, I am just starting on my juniors. I guess I have to be more careful on my gamjeum

    • @W1Taekwondo
      @W1Taekwondo  2 роки тому +3

      @@ricebread9186 the new style can be pretty exciting if done the right way. As long as we see real kicks and power and explosiveness it`s great. Even the rules try to be more specific and reward real kicks while put the non-kicks to rest as they are not taking the sport forward they were just invented as a method to score. Best of luck with the tournaments.

      While I respect your opinions. I absolutely disagree with this being a dtep forward for tkd. Just seen two of the best european competitors (as per recent Manchester competition) victimized by judges and thse rules in Rome GP 2022. They have unfortunately lost in the first 2 legs, to competitors who just stayed at their back foot all, and I say ALL the time. Poor outlook of tkd sport if this continues. Obviously can be good for competitors who basically were crap at sport so far.

    For awhile we were the only combat sport that I’m aware of which allowed striking the back of the head, I’m glad that WT has reinstated this rule - obviously it cuts out a dangerous place to hit, but it will also remove the clinch range ridiculous bent knee “inward crescent kick” which exploits the PSS helmet.
    Overall a positive group of changes by WT.

      More coaches and players need to be aware that this silliness arose not only out of the PSS helmet but out of letting players illegally clinch. Look at any elite highlights. Bahstads cheating all the time.

    Now all they need to do is bring back the "trembling shock" rule where your opponent must be pushed back or knocked off balance in some way by your kick to score a point. It would make WTF Taekwondo much more legit again

    @W1 Taekwondo, great video thank you. I'm jealous that you were so fast ;) . Just some small add-ons:
    - You don't recieve the gamjeom when falling ONLY when you were SCORING with a turning kick. If you would perform a turning kick and it wouldn't hit the head or score the point on the hoogoo, you would still receive a gamjeom.
    - New addition by WT: if there is an advantage or tie after the second round: for example blue won 1st round and 2nd round was a tie; blue would still loose the match if he would lose the final round by gamjeom. Otherwise there would be a system were there could be cheating if one fighter scored a lot of points in the previous rounds.
    - the best new rule is the one were fighters have to get out of clinch themselves. After 5 seconds or they get (both) a gamjeom. They are allowed to push but the can not score to the back of the head, with monkey nor fishkick. So we would see much more action and that's why they put in these new rules.
    I for one, am liking these new additions and as former competitor, now an international referee, I'm hoping this will prove to be better for our beloved sport.

    • @W1Taekwondo
      @W1Taekwondo  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, I appreciate your input. There will be definitely a lot to unwind after these rules would be tested more. Some adjustments might be coming too. The gamjeom rule is definitely a little questionable imo, as it gives penalties much more leverage vs just striving to score.

    • @verlyncraig
      @verlyncraig 2 роки тому

      Hey Ref. Call the illegal grabs in the clinch. ALWAYS. Step up.

  • @robinj6997
    @robinj6997 Рік тому +2

    All of these rule changes have the same objective and that is to remove weak kicks. But athletes will continue to circumvent the rules. It won't solve the problems.
    If they just increase the power threshold to score a point the sloppy kicks would automatically disappear.

  • @verlyncraig
    @verlyncraig 2 роки тому

    I wish you would discuss the WHY of the first rule. Cannot attack back of head while in clinch. This is a great change. Really this should have been fixed in two ways. 1.Refs calling the grab EVERY TIME. Fighters should use the push and clinch management to put people on their butt (and get a point) When they attempt stupid weak attacks in the clinch. The real reason this technique became a problem is because of TERRIBLE refereeing and players agreeing to hold each other in violation of the rules.

      you gotta land it to not get penalty.

  • @empwron9069
    @empwron9069 2 роки тому +3

    well somehow cut kick is nerfed again lol. But I wonder if a cut kick is counted as a real kick? If it is not counted, then we still can do the combination of cut kick and two more following kicks. If cut kick is counted, then it is definitely a nerf for cut kick

    • @W1Taekwondo
      @W1Taekwondo  2 роки тому

      I think it is counted, no reason not to imho. A well done cut kick has the role of jab in boxing. As I understand that one, you cannot do more than 2 kicks mid air before you land on your target, and on your target you can throw more than 3 with the same leg.

  • @waarce
    @waarce 2 роки тому +4

    the scoring rules suck. I mean, you could be down two rounds and makeup on the third. Now, if you happen to be behind on the first two you are done. Who are they catering to? Really, this is going to thin out the ranks even more and eliminate many participants from the sport. Sorry but this rule is full of bullshit. This is not boxing. This sport doesn't make money but wastes money for those who practice it. I guess they want TKD to go down into oblivion.

      I am have just came back to taekwondo after about 15 years.....Because I wanted my kids to know this sport and Because I haven't got anything to show them apart of few photos. All my medals and everything ales got lost. In this way we can train together which is amazing. However, I can see the development from about 2004 (when I stopped)till now, for a moment I regretted coming back. I was really though a different techniques, but the fact they made the new changes 2022 made me feel a bit less worried. I know in the past the scoring was so unfair without the eletric vest, but it changed the game too much in my opinion. Thank you for this video. Taekwondo keep shining what a wonderful will sport and a community to proud of. Hopefully I will be able to sleep now.

    Cosmetic rules changes again!!!! More and more push kick will be. What's happened when I turn my back of the head to receive kick. One step back??? There is no defence tactic anymore??? Best of three. First R 2:1 Second R 2:1 Did I lose the match without third round fight or I can win third round with 12 point gap with final score 4:14 and still lose?

    • @W1Taekwondo
      @W1Taekwondo  2 роки тому

      The rule that forbids kicks behind the head protects all athletes, it is a common rule in combat sports and only tkd had it ON lately. It used to be forbidden to kick behind the head since forever. Regarding best of 3: yes, in that case you would lose because you lost 2 rounds out of 3. The 12 point gap would only give you 1 round. This is the same with other pro combat like mma or boxing. You can lose 3 rounds out of 5 even tho in 4 and 5 you dominated let`s say.

But for the few that they changed that suck balls and make good competitors loose from the poor ones. So its really questionable what will happen with sport where good ones stop competing because some of these rules have nothing to do with common sense.
