Yahtzee's response to Borderlands 3 is all one could hope for and more. Really puts perspective on the game and gaming industry as a whole with his Shakespearean command of verbage.
Kittyplayzz he absolutely knows. If you’ve seen as many Yahtzee reviews as I have, you start to realize that he subtly makes quite a few anime references (and some not so subtle ones like here of course). Oh shit I had not noticed! God damn how is the show running? Are there any seasons past 2? Like I think I watched the first, then went to watch some hentai and never came back to it. And that was like 7 years ago.
I actually really like Outer Wilds (mostly due to Nerdcubed's playthrough of it). It's funny, gorgeous, and has lots of little details and connections to other things in the game. One of the things that I like most about it is that there is absolutely nothing stopping you from progressing other than your own lack of knowledge. Seriously, if you know how, you can (theoretically) solve the entire game in the first time loop. It's only because you never think to try something that's holding you back. Then you find a clue for what to do and do it. And the music is just absolutely top notch 👌. I find myself whistling the main theme to myself every now and again.
It's Riven for the modern age, with more mechanics (as in, literally any). Although I have yet to finish it, so I dunno if it's as incredibly *hard* as Riven. But it seems to have that same design ideas. But Riven is a polarizing game so it makes sense Outer Wilds is too.

Untitled Goose Game reminds me of the original Portal: it's short, creative, and fun. Unfortunately, while Portal was somewhat ruined after the fact by over-enthusiastic fans, we now are at a place where a game can be ruined by over-enthusiastic fans before 99% of people even have a chance to play it.
@jocaguz18 Very rarely do people make thousands of unfunny memes about my breakfast before I get a chance to eat it. I'm not saying it NEVER happens, merely that it's SELDOM.
@jocaguz18 jeez, are you really going to insult someone for saying they've soured on a video game because of over-enthusiastic fans? I'd love to have such a comfy life to where I could get off being such a dick to random people I don't know.
Dcon strongly disagree. If something’s being shoved in your face everywhere you go on the internet and you’re starting to get a bit sick of it, the last thing you’re going to want to do is expose yourself to it even more by playing/watching it. That’s not being easily influenced, that’s being sane.
@jocaguz18 My personality is that I don't like when people won't shut the fuck up about something. And "Are you so affected by what others do?" is an absolutely asinine thing to say. Of course I am. So are you, or you wouldn't be here trying to tell me to have a different opinion.
@@teddy4271 The fact that the player is intended to replay the game over and over again slowly gaining a complete mastery of it has major implications for the large scale gameplay loops of roguelikes. A games structure, difficulty curve and the length and the payout of medium sized gameplay loops of the game need to be designed in a way that encourages them to try again even after a catastrophic loss in the hopes of reaching new heights. If you just randomly pick a game and slap permadeath and procedural generation on it for the sake of replayability, chances are they'll just get bored or annoyed with the game and stop playing after a few tries (I'm talking about fans of the genre since the basic concept of roguelikes is very divisive to begin with).
To anyone who want a memorable and uniquely emotional game, go try out outer wilds, I wish I can forget it and experience the game again, it's really good.
Eh not really. It's not a mindless exploration game. You're constantly learning clues about the world and you need to think about what happened in order to solve puzzles which you need to be paying attention for. Plus the music is really good and it'd be a shame to not even be paying attention to it.
I thought the music was okay. The game just isn’t my style. The first hour or two was good but after that I had to fight off distractions left and right because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about but got too bored and dropped it. I’ll pick it up again one day when I can find the energy in case it’s one of those “it gets better after you do most of the game” type of things.
Here's the TL;DR for anybody in a hurry The Surge 2: It's OK Code Vein: It's OK, but with anime up the a$$ Blasphemous: Very grim theme, platforming that doesn't fit said theme Untitled Goose Game: Amusing game, that's it Terminator Resistance: It's fine Moons of Madness: It's fine Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts: It's better than SGW3, but that's it John Wick Hex: Decent puzzle game, replays look stiff Outer Wilds: Should like it in theory, but Yahtzee gets bored Borderlands 3: uhhhhhhh... 5:24
@The Grin Reaper Nobody in this thread said that anime is "wrong". Saying that something is full of anime doesn't mean that said comment is saying that anime is "wrong". If he's doing a game every week, that's 52 games a year.
@@hackcubit9663 I'm talking about the Developer Diary series.
He’s living the dream tbh
Alternative thinking, even productivity maybe, but efficiency and pent up anger on the other hand.
Fine/10 is probably the best *joke* score I've ever heard
The best joke score i ever heard is "i give that one a broken marraige/10"
A guy who does Warframe content, Triburos, he did reviews of each type of weapon in the game and had TONS of amazing joke scores.
Bet you forgot about this comment.
My personal favorite was a video about a Civil War game, he gave it four out of score.
"A confused roomba with a highly interpretive idea of waste management."
The borderlands 3 gag is honestly my favorite gag in any ZP from 2019
Everyone has their opinion, so if Yahtzee doesn't like Outer Wilds, I respect that. For me, it's one of my top games of All Time and I really encourage people to play it if that kind of gameplay is their jam. It's unbelievably absorbing.
I'm surprised ZP wasn't more a fan of Blasphemous. Most of the monsters would be right at home in Silent Hill, and the art style makes Dante's Inferno look like a picnic!
Because he like silent hill does not = likes similar things
Code Vein was actually pretty good. Definitely "easy" souls but also the most build diverse souls-like. I easily dropped over 40hrs into it and look forward to their dlc for more blood codes/equipment to make more builds.
Real question is did Yahtzee know Rias from DxD or did he just pick one random anime figure picture from internet
If you let annoying fans ruin things for you, then you are too easily influenced.
CL4P-TP: “Don’t worry; I’m sure he just got lost. A review of my game is pretty hard to find”.
“Going insane in Sacramento takes some doing”
tell that to Death Grips
*YUH!*
Merry christmas Yahtzee and Zero Punctuation subscribers!
I think you mean "hexagonal" yahtz, not "hexadecimal." Surely even if that word applied, that would be six-_teen_ directions of movement, not six.
I scrolled down in the hopes that someone else had caught that
If you seen his reviews for the first 2 Borderlands you've seen his review for the 3rd
Soulslikes aren't so much 'overdone' as becoming a new legitimate game genre, like 'Roguelike' or 'Doom Clone/first person shooter'
Eh, when every second game is a Soulslike, I can see why one thinks it's being overdone, like pretty much any triple A FPS
@@robertpalmer8080 the shooter genre started life as the "Doom clone."
Well, every new genre gets overdone in it's infancy. That's how you know it's a new genre.
Only Yahtzee could review over 2000 games in under 7 minutes
To anyone who want a memorable and uniquely emotional game, go try out outer wilds, I wish I can forget it and experience the game again, it's really good.
Yahtzee's borderlands 3 review is so good it may as well be included in the next youtube rewind holy shit
I'm relieved at your experience of Outer Wilds. I can't understand all the acclaim.
“Oh, we love our fucking memes don’t we”
classic
Very insightful thoughts on borderlands 3.
I can hardly believe how little mention "That's not a recipe for disaster, that's the Anarchist's Cookbook" is getting in the comments
Probably alot of people who have no idea what it is lol
Yahtzee's response to Borderlands 3 reminded me of my father when I was young.
This makes me actually want to try that Terminator title out. Yahtz labeling it as "fine" is surprisingly positive.
Your review of Borderlands 3 broke my heart
Seriously, I practically went into cardiac arrest with that last bit
"you misfired your jetpack, fell, broke both your legs and then the sun exploded." This exactly sums up my day.
...Terminator: Resistance? Wut? This game was so blandly "fine" that I had no idea it even existed until this video
TheNextDecade244 shit me too
Same
there are lots of great games you probably haven't heard of, lol.
Yup
Oh yeah, I forgot I funded Blasphemous on kickstarter. I was wondering where I got that T shirt
Outer wild seems like the perfect kind of game to play while listening to a podcast.
Eh not really. It's not a mindless exploration game. You're constantly learning clues about the world and you need to think about what happened in order to solve puzzles which you need to be paying attention for. Plus the music is really good and it'd be a shame to not even be paying attention to it.
NO!
So *THAT'S* where my dad is! He's just out with Yahtzee doing Borderlands 3 reviews! Alright, I can keep waiting now!
Yatzhee's response to Borderlands 3 was similar to my dads response towards my love and affection.
Here's the TL;DR for anybody in a hurry
The Surge 2: It's OK
Code Vein: It's OK, but with anime up the a$$
Blasphemous: Very grim theme, platforming that doesn't fit said theme
Untitled Goose Game: Amusing game, that's it
Terminator Resistance: It's fine
Moons of Madness: It's fine
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts: It's better than SGW3, but that's it
John Wick Hex: Decent puzzle game, replays look stiff
Outer Wilds: Should like it in theory, but Yahtzee gets bored
Borderlands 3: uhhhhhhh... 5:24
@The Grin Reaper Having anime up the a$$ is uncomfortable whether you like anime or not.
@The Grin Reaper
It's not my own opinion, Yahtzee literally said in the video how anime Code Vein is
@The Grin Reaper Nobody in this thread said that anime is "wrong". Saying that something is full of anime doesn't mean that said comment is saying that anime is "wrong". You're awfully defensive for a review summary. If you like anime, fine, but you're gonna need a thicker skin to get through the rest of the internet, mate.
How did you manage to make a zero punctuation video even shorter?
Ah, my favourite debate tactic. Taking someone's rebuttal and just saying "thanks for proving my point" rather than actually saying anything.
My god yahtzee, your review on borderlands 3 was amazing. I'm still recovering from laughing so hard.
You can’t evade Borderlands 3 forever, Yahtzee
Jay Arby He’s evaded Catherine for the whole year. What do you have to say about that?
Well even if he can't, he's gonna damn well try his best to.
He'll be wandering the streets of Rio, thinking he's finally lost it, then it's in front of him holding a piece of paper saying "Summer Games Drought" on it.
@@p.v.7269 I hoped someone would get that.
This video did not talk about 2019 games, it talked about 6.
Yahtzee flaunting his California residency by bragging about edibles
"That's not a recipe for disaster, that's the fucking Anarchist's Cookbook."
Oh, that's good.
This was way less than two thousand and nineteen games
Good one
Underrated
@@Jackoffs Thanks, I thought it was clever anyway.
I love going back and checking Yahtzee's reviews to see if I should pick something up that's on Steam's summer sale.
That ending was savage af
I'm pretty sure Yahtzee meant to say "hexagonal" instead of "hexadecimal" for the John Wick: Hex segment. At least the "hex" pun still works.
Yahtzee expected a Lovecraftian horror game to be good? Does he not even watch his own reviews?
brainflash1 He would’ve given up on modern military shooters a long time ago if he hadn’t played Spec Ops: The Line; the only reason he keeps playing them is so he doesn’t miss another shooter that goes the way of Spec Ops.
Yatzhee doing a spot on impression of my dad there during his Borderlands 3 review.
I love how the games were so bland that the text to speech program sounded like it was falling asleep just reading out the titles
I was hoping he’d come back after the credits, but still impressed at how much open air there was before it.
I unironically like this format, anyone else?
NO
I swear. I was just waiting for Yahtzee to come back, then the guitar riff started and nearly gave me a heart attack.
Been waiting for the borderlands 3 review since release.
It was everything I'd hope it would be.
That should be a quote for the GOTY version:
"....................."
Yatzhee Crosshaw
Guys... I don't think he's coming back...
The Borderlands 3 commentary made me chuckle. Have a great new year's Yahtzee.
I was wondering what Yahtzee's reaction to the pole-dancing fish lady from Code Vein would be
Thanks for not taking to much of a piss out of Blasphemous, Yahtz. And double thanks for the blands3 laugh at the end
The Borderland 3 review was on point!
Holy Jesus that voice you used for the titles made me nearly spit my drink out and burst out laughing 😂
That's the best Borderlands 3 review I've ever seen.
The joke is that it takes 30 minutes to sit through all the cutscenes and openings before you fire your first bullet in Borderlands 3
He reviewed Untitled Goose Game. You happy now?
Being a Sacramento native I can tell you that it's quite easy to go insane there
Yahtzee went out for cigarettes and never came back.
When a Borderlands 3 review ends up a mild jump scare when the credits abruptly roll.
Me: Can we get Borderlands 3 review?
Mom: No, we have Borderlands 3 review at home
Borderlands 3 review at home:
I think I recognize "Yahtzee's review of Borderlands 3" because I got to experience "My dad going out to get cigarettes"
You had me at "two noses."
Time to get Code Vein!
As a current Sacramento resident,I applaud you for that swift "going insane"- comment. Good job, good sir.
