I used to do most of my cooking on an offset smoker but it rusted out. It wasn’t that great of a built one. I will always keep cooking on my WSM too. But felt the need to get back into doing some cooks with an offset. I really love cooking with only wood.
I am getting this model when I return from the Philippines (I just cooked a whole 108 lb pig on a bamboo pole too) in August. Here is what I want to ask. Do you think it would better this rig if one was to paint the outside with some high heat clear paint before ever using it? Also, was your silicone food grade or no? Not gonna nit-pic ya if it wasn't, just asking. Ok,...one more thing,...the exhaust stack has one screw,...did you consider adding another to secure it more properly? Thank You!
I know the silicon is high temp. Not 100% if it was food grade, but I do know it was food safe. I made sure to investigate that for sure. I never thought of adding another screw to the stack. Between the silicon, the screw and a decently tight fit I have no worries about it. As far as the paint, the only issue I’ve had is the firebox losing some paint from the heat. A high temp clear coat or paint would probably help. The rest of the cookers paint has held up wonderfully. Sorry for the delay in reply, was out of town on vacation with the family! Cheers my friend and safe travels!
@@PaulieDetmurds not sure if the last reply got cut off or not, I mentioned that I think a high temp paint or clear coat would probably help. The only issue I had with the paint is on the firebox. All the other paint is still holding up great!
@@RaceviceSmokehouse ok,...thank You. I have a few other smokers,...will prob buy this one when I return to the US from here in the Philippines. I am going to buy one, and I am considering doing the clear coat prior to any burns. Thank You! Very appreciated.
Great assembly vid! I also felt the need for some food grade silicone on the smoke stack and fire box. I have gotta ask, did you also end up with an extra "A" bolt or screw to spare? Hope you are enjoying the Grand Champ! 👍
Lol. I did have the extra A as well. Thanks for checking it out! My only issue so far is that the legs are uneven. There’s a wobble to the smoker cause all four legs don’t sit right. I’m sure a little bit of physical persuasion may fix that, but for now it’s kind of annoying. Getting ready to do the burn in and seasoning today. Been on the road for work so haven’t been able to play with it as much as I would like.
@@bradleydelmundo2699 I did use high temp silicone to seal the chimney and the connection of the firebox and cook chamber. You can see me doing it in the video to see how I did it. There were never any issues with leaking smoke.
@Racevice Smokehouse & Grill just finished putting mines together and decided to use a mallet to knock the pin that holds the wheel down a little now no wobble
@@RaceviceSmokehouse Forget it did not work. I bought exhaust header gasket material, cut and fit it, fired up smoker, that stuff stinks and does not go away and smoke still escaped. loosened the firebox and the gasket material fell away in pieces and was brittle.
@@RaceviceSmokehouse Doing a Brisket as I type, have not sealed any of the leaks yet and i had to move the upside down grate 1-1/2" from firebox and it has been keeping exact same temp both ends for 3 hours now. Thanks again, great idea.
Just purchased this smoker, enjoy your video...... Subscribed
Thank you! You’re going to love that cooker!
Excellent... that lower inside charcoal rack for fast & hot main chamber cooking .... burgers & steaks... sold me on this grill. Good Video
It’s a great grill for the price point! Hope you enjoy it.
Looks great and heavy duty and well built. I'm worried about what my WSM would say if I got one...never used an offset smoker either. All the best!

Thank you!! I can’t wait to get cooking on it myself!! Just seasoned it today. Some cooks to come!! Cheers!!

Yeah it’s pretty nice for the price!! Looking forward to a lot of cooks on it!

Did you ever figure out the wobble after you initially stood the smoker up
No. Everything looked right and straight. I ended up shimming a piece of wood under it to stabilize the smoker.

Could you use automotive head gasket material and cut it out to fit the firebox, no mess.
