This documentary focuses on two of the six Mitford sisters: Jessica the Communist and Diana the Fascist. Separated by only a few years in age, but poles apart in ideology. They grew up in a divided Europe at the beginning of the 20th Century, a place and time full of great political tension. Old regimes were clinging on to power and new ones were eager to establish themselves. Many citizens of Europe were forced to decide which moral compass they wished to adopt, and both Jessica and Diana were quick to make that decision. Both fiercely competitive, each sister sought out her own distinct identity and clashed with the other siblings as a result. Like so many others of their era, their personal and political lives became so entwined that they ultimately shattered the once strong and loving bonds of sisterhood.
Please Lord it will be in documentary form. That's the only approach that can "work" , and at that will require the highest ability. It would be an impossibility, and a shame, to attempt anything with a script and some hopeless acting ensemble.
I enjoyed the book 'The American Way of Death' by Jessica Mitford when it came out decades ago. Fascinating to now know the story behind her and her sisters. Thank you!
I am loathed to admit it, but I have never heard of these sisters. How unusual to have six sisters so obsessed with politics for lack of a better word. Thank you for this documentary....
Just commented on this about … her voice was jarring and her enunciation so bad that even turning on closed captioning didn’t work because cc didn’t know what she was saying
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD! THIS WAS ABSOLUTE EXCELLENCE! Now go watch the interview with Diane Mosley it's about 15 minutes where she's unapologetic till the end.
Tom Mitford, died fighting the Japanese in Burma. Thomas supported British fascism and was posted to the Burma campaign after he had refused to fight in Europe.
It is to bad that there are so many ads. I loved this documentary when it was on Netflix. The adds that occur almost every 2 minutes make it unwatchable.
That and the surprisingly childish voice of the one narrator who doesn’t enunciate properly. I had to turn on cc to understand what she was saying, and cc apparently couldn’t tell much of the time
Comparing Jessica Mitford to her sister Diana is ridiculous. Diana Mitford had the brain of a flea. I always wondered if she learned to read. Jessica Mitford was brilliant. Look at her career. BTW, she was beautiful, which only complimented her intelligence.
They weren’t rich but were privileged bc they belonged to the aristocracy. That alone opened doors unavailable to the average people of their means. There has always been poor aristocrats bc those titles last for generations or hundreds of years. There’s even Dukes who are poor. The Duke of Cardigan gives tours of England bc the family fortune was squandered over the ages. They’ll have these huge houses that they can no longer keep up and turn into ruins. That’s why so many country homes were torn down in the 50’s. The government bailed some country homes out if their architecture was important and one of a kind. Now many of those aristocrats survive on the money of tourists in order to upkeep the house. Plus the fact the house are protected, those aristocratic homes are safe forever.
They were pretty sisters, born into wealth and privilege, who hobnobbed with rich and powerful people, but the sisters disagreed with eachother's political ideology so much that they stopped speaking to eachother. That's why they were famous, and why they are worthy of being studied? Did I miss something?

What does it convey when the print, which detracts from the piece to begin with, misspells one name, etc., after another. Reedsdale? Right. And there are others. One doesn't expect much.
If you mean the subtitles, they're probably auto-generated, which means that a computer is doing its best to listen to the audio and translate it to text. It's usually *pretty* good until it comes to names. Channel owners do have the option of editing the closed captioning, but it's a laborious and time-consuming process. Also, you can turn the closed captioning off. If you either tap or hover your mouse over your screen, a little "CC" in a box should appear. That's the closed-captioning toggle.

The issue is, that the people who call themselves the aristocracy, feel they are royalty, and above everyone else. Calling yourself sir, lord, queen, king, prince, princess, duke, or dutchess, or any other honorary title is the problem, because they were born to think thet were entitled, but they are not. Thanks for the documentary, interesting subject.
Are you referring to the dish water blonde journalist. I was thinking of cindy brady with the lisp lol, because she sounded like a kid, or maybe she is the offspring first cousin's, because she didn't look right. Every person giving their opinion is probably from modern fascist stock.
Have you watched the interview with her when she’s in her 80s? She is still absolutely beautiful and ethereal. Unity certainly wasn’t a looker nor was Nancy, Pamela was a lesbian whose personal looks and dress leaned butch and Deborah and Jessica were very pretty, yes, but “plain” pretty if you understand what I mean while Diane was beautiful and STAYED beautiful her entire life. I mean, the pictures are right here in front of you.

She was not fascist, as she didn't followed italian dictator Benito Mussolini. She was a fervient national *socialist.*
A series about them would be a fascinating watch. Hope it’s made. Their lives were wild. In the middle of all kinds of world events.

A much better story than the Kardashians

You're very welcome!
Yeah, I haven’t heard of them either.
I find the Mitford family fascinating. Despite all our vices and virtues the human condition is so interesting. Each sister loyal to a fault.
WATCHING FROM GUYANA IN SOUTH AMÉRICA!! THANKS FOR SHARING SUCH AN INTERESTING STORY THAT OCCURED IN REAL LIFE.
They strike me as flakes of unmoored character. Thank you for your time and effort, a well edited and researched, provocative presentation.
Diana was a good woman and so was Unity.
They don't, but you do.
What about them being interesting, people different from you? Is that a bad thing?
I feel for Nancy. I had stage 4 non Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2020. It was hell in the 21st century ! I could not imagine the treatment she received!
My mother’s cousin passed away from this in the 80s. It was horrible even then. I hope you’re healed. 😊
I knew Decca. You have no idea how much she hated her sister.
Don't blame her at all.
Did you really? Which sister did she hate? She had five I believe. I have so many questions.
Diana.
Typical red scoum
Jessica had her heart in the right place however misguided her early political philosophy was. Diana was a racist who literally worshiped the devil.
I'm obsessed with the Mitford sisters.
Wonderful
As for the tiny lady with the tiny voice unfortunately she can't be understood.
Need to do a voice over .
I understood every word and I thank her.

Good. She has nothing to apologize for.
Diana was on the righ side of history!
No mention of the family relationship between Clementine Churchill and the Mitfords.
I'm here after watching Peaky blinders, it's hard to believe people like her existed.
Thank you.
The Mitford Girls: The Biography of an Extraordinary Family by Mary S. Lovell is one of many good books available
Thank you for the recommendation. I was a history major and am now only beginning to research this family.😊
Yes, I loved that, as well as the one mentioned in the documentary ("Take Six Girls").
Wishing they'll show the rest of the Mitford sisters.
At 7:55 Wallis Simpson dancing away...they couldn't have known she would be the woman for their king...
bizarre, they don't mention Pamela and Deborah
I was wondering about them as well. I’ll have to check out the Mitford Sisters book.
Perhaps they weren't as controversial as Diana, Unity and Jessica.
I am curious as to what happened to the seemingly 'only' brother of these sisters.🤔🤔🤔 The poor boy....😂😂😂
