SUGAR! He was spectacular same type of game as MAGIC but he was a great great defender and speed to burn. Earl the pear,l sugar and magic were my favorite players as a kid oh what could have been.
There is no way to measure his greatness as a player. I am not aware that he had any deficiencies at all. One of just a handful of all-time great players I have seen.
People don't realize how great of a player he was during the first 4 years of his NBA career, during those years he dogged Magic, Larry, Dr. J, MJ, Isiah, he basically dogged the whole league. It's a shame that we never got to see how much greater he could've been if he would've stayed off drugs.
Regardless of who he played for, the Knicks or Nets, he used to really hurt the 76ers. The Knicks should never traded Ray Williams or Mike Glenn. Ray Williams and Sugar could have been great for yrs. I also believe Ray Williams and Mike Glenn would have helped Sugar stay out of trouble off the floor.
@erickonasis They are contemporaries; Michael was in the league only 1 year earlier. Richardson was an overlooked player his rookie year and Magic and Michael became stars in the same season. Oscar was closer to being the first Magic but was not as flamboyant in his style of play.
