      @@shanekinsman9284 Well - prior to now a Red camera really wasn't feasible financially. I just wouldn't have commanded the work to make it worthwhile. This is a low enough buy-in to be able to provide that "RED" level of quality for clients who want that without the high diminishing returns that typically come with a RED body that isn't used daily.

    The only thing I think that would hold people back is the 5x higher price of the komodo, but your projects are definitely going to be what determines what camera/budget you're going to need to get.

    Regarding BMPCC4K vs 6K ... I intentionally chose the 4K with the MB EF .64 over the 6K ... I have a lot of Canon glass ... but I have a legit need to slim down as much as possible when filming under the radar and having access to MFT lenses is a huge plus in that regard.

    • @captureinsidethesound
      @captureinsidethesound 2 роки тому

      Recently, purchased the BMPCC 4K. I'm coming from the BMPCC OG that I really never used a MFT lens with. Ive seen many video using MFT lenses using the 4K and they are very sharp, even cheap lenses are sharper compared to my older lenses like the Nikon 35mm F/2 and Canon FD 50mm. Does the MB EF .64 make your Canon glass sharper because if so then i will skip on buying new MFT glass.

    • @Malick333
      @Malick333 2 роки тому

      @@captureinsidethesound actually the speed booster seems to soften my EF glass, and looks really good IMO, almost giving a vintage glass look. I have a MFT Panasonic 24-70 (equivalent) and it’s MUCH sharper than when using my Canon 24-70 on the speed booster. The native MFT is too sharp for my taste so I’d have to diffuse it.

    Nice stuff man, I am pretty much in the same boat, except , when i got my Komodo I had both a .71 and .64 speedbooster and decided to just keep the XL speedbooster (although partially because i have 2 viltrox as well) I like the overall look of the BMPCC4k with a speedbooster slightly better then the Pocket 6k even though to is slightly better in a few areas. The pocket 4k is just a killer secondary and even in certain situations primary cam.

    Thanks for the video. I currently own the BMPCC 6 & 4k with a Metabones Ultra .64 on the 4k. I want to use the 4k more because of the speedbooster but I almost alway gravitate to the 6k. The image to me just looks better. Maybe it's the crop? I'm not sure but image wise I like the 6k better. In your video I like the Komodo image better. It's richer? Could that possibly be the extra DR the Komodo has? I definitely want to get it. I do wish it had slightly better high frame rate options but it just seems like an overall great camera.

    From early reports, I read it was developed as a crash cam for the most part, so I guess it only makes sense they would go with a ccd over cmos I suppose? I'm guessing it's why we see some banding and fixed pattern noise, although that could be caused by UA-cam bandwidth to some degree, idk.. Either way, it's a great image, low light is still damn good with all things considered.

How am I supposed to compare the two if the colors from the light aren’t matched? Also, the videos being placed diagonally instead of side-by-side is a very weird choice. Pocket 4k can achieve a near full frame look or go super 35, uses less battery, and can record full sensor raw with smaller file sizes.
      Pocket 4k is also significantly cheaper, though with a brand new metabones ultra hits about the same price.
      The pocket 4k now also has gen 5 color science.
      Still, the skin tones don’t quite land as nicely as the 6k in my experience. And if you really want 6k for some reason then the 6k obviously has that advantage. Some of the cheaper speed boosters may lower sharpness as well, but cinematography isn’t supposed to be sharp. And we keep using these ultra sharp photography lenses like the sigma 18-35 anyway. So softening the image is VERY far from a bad thing. And that’s why so many people put mist filters on their lenses.
      But resolution Imo is largely overrated and I’d rather be shooting 4k than 6k most of the time for file size. And skin tones can very easily have that micro adjustment in post.
      The better lowlight coming from the pocket 4k ultra is harder to ignore.
      The pocket 4k also has a much wider lens selection. You can use it as a super 35 and still use the same signa 18-35 or other super35 ef glass.
      You can also use something like the full frame sigma 24-70, which, yes you can use on a pocket 6k, but the crop really defeats the purpose.
      The pocket 4k can also use a cine ef mount which, if you’re into cine lenses and swapping primes on a rigged out camera, makes it significantly quicker and easier to do so.
      The pocket 4k is also lighter and has the ability to use the much lighter mft glass. Paired with the better battery life and smaller sizes makes it much more plausible to use in situations where you aren’t rigging the camera out and need light weight, such as being flown on a drone.
      There are situations where a pocket 6k makes more sense over a pocket 4k. But largely, I’ve got to give the win to the pocket 4k. It’s a much more flexible camera for a lower price with an identical menu system, smaller file sizes and near identical image.

      have the p4k and agree with you + I use it often with small mft lenses on a simple steadycam, for which it is a friendly weight if used with internal card+battery@@zachmachina

    I'm a little disappointed in some of your comments, especially the one where you couldn't understand why anyone would choose the Pocket 6k over the 4k. Yet in your very own video, it showed that the Pocket 6k was superior to the 4k in highlight sensitivity. That to me is THE reason why to pick the Pocket 6k

      @@JustinPhillip Which is even more impressive, since the metabones is allowing more light into the sensor. So the fact that the Pocket 4k performed so well is a surprise

    Definitely the pocket 4k takes the cake, do we need global shutter? hell no, it's just a gimmick 99% of us won't notice if used or not, but to each their own, for me it's Blackmagic.

      Far from a gimmick but you do almost need to shoot with a global shutter camera to realize that.
      The primary way that you show or explain global shutter is with very specific circumstances. Panning the camera really fast or showing spinning helicopter blades. The bunching bag here was a rather unique one, but still you ask yourself “how often am I going to be whip panning like that or filming a helicopter and do I really care that it’s a little less than perfect for those few specific instances?”
      The problem with that logic is that it affects every shot. Everything you shoot is affected by the shutter. If there’s absolutely no movement, it’s near impossible to tell, sure (but that’s also hardly cinematography). As soon as the camera or subject starts moving, it makes a difference.
      I remember the first time I shot on a Komodo. It was my first time shooting with a global shutter (I’m primarily a black magic user). I actually had totally forgotten that the Komodo had a global shutter. And as I’m doing some handheld shots of a band for a sort of music video, I’m just looking at the tiny Komodo screen (wasn’t even using an external monitor that day) and immediately noticed how good the movement looked. Immediately. I was like “why does this movement look so natural? I’ve never seen anything I’ve ever shot look like this before” and that’s when I was like “oh yeah I’m pretty sure the Komodo has a global shutter.”
      I wasn’t doing hard pans and whips. Just handheld on a person mostly standing in place. There wasnt anything that would cause warping or bendy lines from rolling shutter, especially not on a pocket 6k or Ursa. Still, I immediately could tell the difference, even on the tiny little Komodo screen.
      Far from a gimmick. And once you’ve used it, you’ll also probably realize it’s probably one of the biggest reasons to buy a Komodo over another camera.

    I’m sorry but your comments on the 6K are biased as fuck. You ended up with a 6K but because it says RED on the brand it’s suddenly ok. Dude please.

      @@JustinPhillip That’s not my point Justin. Obviously not. But you ended up buying a S35 sensor 6K camera just like the P6K is. Is it better yes, it better well damn be costing so much. But the fact remains that apparently resolution does matter to you, dynamic range does matter to you. Overall picture quality does matter to you. All those things are true about the P6K when compared to the 4K. Boiling down a camera to the use of a focal reducer to say it’s better is bullshit. If crop factor was such a huge deal you would have never bought a S35 sensor camera. Period. Crop factor is overrated. Hollywood has been shooting feature films for ages using S35 sensors. Full frame is a photography trademark. I honestly like you and you’re work and your whole vibe but it really triggered me that you’d be so blind about the 6K. Anyways. Peace.

      @@TheFilmmakingChannel All i'm saying in that video is that i don't see the advantage of selling a P4k for a P6K. that is all, to me it's the same exact camera, unless you have a metabones and then that is the real winner.
