@cutekittens , I completely agree with you. Dilip Kumar is great, but Motilal and Ashok Kumar are no less. Balraj Sahni and Sanjeev Kumar are great actors too. Unfortunately, our media has comparatively sidelined these actors and have constantly harped on Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan's greatness, which is rather unfair.
On his part though, Dilip Kumar made a fair assessment of his own abilities. He has said on record - in a country that has seen actors like Chhabi Biswas, Motilal, Ashok Kumar, Balraj Sahni, Sivaji Ganesan, Uttam Kumar; I don't consider myself the best. Many of his die - hard, blind fans will say that this was Dilip Kumar being modest. But for all those, who have seen Indian cinema in all its forms across the ages, this was Dilip Kumar being honest.

Yes he was from AWAN tribe and called a PATHAAN because of his family living in NWFP province like lots of other AWANS living in Afghanistan and adjoining area of Pakistan and in Punjab - AWANS are between 3-4 crore in present day Pakistan a big tribe of MARSHAL RACE -Another famous AWAN personality of Afghanistani AWANS was THE LION OF PANJSHER VALLEY "AHMED SHAH MASOOD" the MARTYR -

He was AWAN (ALAVI) his forefathers (tribe branch) settled in Tajikistan centuries ago when there no borders no travel or settle restrictions - AWANS settled permanently in different places -
Now every one living in Afghanistan or adjoining areas prides himself being called as a pathan - One doesn't have to be a PASHTOON to be called a PATHAAN or a KHAN - Pashtoons (tribes) of Afghanistan and others are very proud of their history and culture although never progressed and still remain backward -
Any one can be a KHAN which is a title fixed with a name of a rich or poor like RAO SAHB, CHAUDHRY DAHB, RANA SAHB, MEHARAJ in Hindus -
In olden times rulers used to confer this title to themselves or to people who served them well in different fields - Word KHAN (RULER or A MAN of AUTHORITY) originated in TURKEY used by MONGOLS, TURKS MUGALS - the British used to bestow this title to muslim NAWABS or influential people in India -
A lots lots punjabis in South Western areas use this title after their name -
But word KHAN is so degraded that a SHOW POLISHING PATHAN is referred in and called a KHAN nowadays -
@@AsifMalik-sl4zd Yes. I just read that the Khalaj people, of whom were the Khaljis who were a dynasty of Delhi Sultanate, were originally Turks settled in what's today's Afghanistan. They became the Gilji or Gilzai Pashtoons. So a lot of intermingling there and processes like Pashtoonization created the modern identities. Similar processes in India.

Dilip Sahib, you were never a Pathan, you were from Peshawar and Peshawari's are not Pathans but they are Hindo Speakers which is a dialect of Punjabi. Pashto speakers in Peshawar are out comers which settled in Peshawar during last 30-40 years. So, be proud of what you are and that is a Punjabi or Pathan or Balochi or what ever. Simelarly, Kapoor family calls themselves Pathans whereas they are Punjabi's moved from Gojra near Faisalabad to Peshawar as Pirthavi Raj Kapoor was posted in Peshawar as police officer. Both, Dalip and Raj Kapoor could not even speak Pashto, rather they spoke Hindo which as I earlier said is Punjabi. This language is spoken in Peshawar, Atak, Mansehra, Abbotabad, Naran, Kaghan, Babusar and Niat, and all Galiat around Kashmir.
He was AWAN by caste/tribe and not a pashtoon - Please read his autobiography - But every one living in NWFP province is called a PATHAAN - It is not necessary a PATHAAN to speak PASHTO - There are hundreds of hundreds of pathans living in India but they speak hindi or urdu forgetting PASHTO by virtue of living here for centuries or decades for getting their mother tongue -
