May I say, I sent this video (the old one actually) to my dad one month before hi died back in 2020, it was the last musical content I sent him before he passed. I see this as a link between us, whenever I watch this video, I cry a lot (kinda happily), because it feels like I'm connecting with him somehow through the music.
There was a comment on the original video but it was removed with the video as well. It was so beautiful that it almost matched the beauty of this performance. So I had saved it and I wanna post it here again. I'm sorry that I do not know who wrote it but I don't mean to steal it, I just want everyone to see and realize what they witness as they watch this video. "I think there's something just ultimately freeing and satisfying about looking around a room of other musicians and being able to say to yourself, "These people get it. We're all speaking the same language right now." This entire tune is just 30+ musicians all speaking the exact same language, expressing their own internal dialogue, and adding to the voice of the piece to make it that much deeper. And then Bill just sobbing through the piano for 5 minutes... This isn't music. It's a bunch of people's souls all lining up and talking to each other and we get to hear and see it."
I am beyond pleased this is back on UA-cam, thank you for reuploading the remix/remaster! This is very possibly my single favorite piece of music ever, it's great having a clean source I can share with people. Bill Laurence's solo in this is I think the most beautiful improvisation I've ever heard. My only critique, bit of an odd choice to cut the sustain of the synth leading into Cory's solo at 8:24.
That sustain gets so wobbly with the LFO before the beat drops it was so nice, definitely not the greatest choice. It's nice to hear the rhythm section supporting the solo more but he does get drowned out
Id love to hear Nic's take on that choice too. The quality of the entire remix/remaster is absolutely astounding so really hard to find any criticism. That's literally the only moment that had me scratching my head.
Yeah I agree, I miss that wobbly sound going into the solo. For anyone interested, Nic talks about that why he did that in this video, at about 45 mins in. It's a full masterclass of him mixing this album. Well worth a watch. ua-cam.com/video/bNQkbY7A9XY/v-deo.htmlsi=Dg_wXU2_bIkpUK8R&t=2738
So glad it's back! Truly amazing piece of music. Bill Laurance's solo is a true musical masterpiece and I just wish it went on way longer. An hour would be good.
Metropole Orkest is a Juggernaut! This was Grammy Award-winning, and I suspect they may grab another with Louis Cole this or next year! Man, dude! Listen!
@@JeppeRaskDK Luckily I didn't noticed the offline period. Bill Solo here is one of my favourite piano pieces ever. I'm going to download it. Can't risk to loose it.
Snarky Puppy is the most exciting jazz (funk or progressive) act right now... And yet... I feel they're still at a young age of their career. Something tells me they will blow ours minds in yhe future. They make me think a bit of the exciting psychedelic years of Pink Floyd... and yet the band had not released yet their most iconic albums.
I have tears in my eyes. Again. For .. I don't know .. probably the 100th time I'm listening to this since it came out 10 years ago. We don't have to talk about the greatest trumpet solo, the coolest bass solo or the crispiest synth solo ever. That's understood. But what Bill Laurence is doing on the piano is beyond any description, there are no words for how beautiful this is. If only one guy (Michael League) is capable of writing music of this quality and if a group of guys is then capable of putting that many emotions into only 15 minutes, the last 5 of which being easily and by far the most heartbreaking and at the same time uplifting moment in music history, I'm almost intimidated by the sheer genius behind it. Thank you to everyone involved in this. It is nothing more and nothing less than a gift to humanity. So timeless that it will just be as hauntingly beautiful in 100 years' time. Thank you.
Thanks for bringing this version back. I understand that it should be a hard decision but the Bill Laurence solo we heard was so iconic that we cannot forget! I appreciate to be able to hear it again
This mix just oozes class. The first rendition was fantastic, but now you can really hear the wonderfully subtle work that the horn and string sections are putting in. Big sound through the discernable layers, not through a wall of mixed harmony hitting you (loved that too, of course). Cory Henry's solo blows me away once again, and the crispness of Bill Laurence's piece is simply mesmerising. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reuploading, and for the work you put into making it even better. Bravo, Snarky Puppy!
Probably my favourite Snarky track ever ...this is just so rich music with such beautiful passages! The sound is great and the performance stellar...thanks!
I wish I could personally shake every single musician's hands. F pop music, this is a modern master class on music's true form. Masterful and thank you for the remastered version, it's like hearing it live! Love it.
Epoustouflant!! Bravo. That piano solo carries so much emotion, sublime dynamics! The whole piece moves me to a wide range of vibes and feelings. My favorite track. Thanks so much for re-uploading and offering us an extra take.
Thanks a lot, this version does justice to all of that, that was a little lost in the muddiness in the previous one. The dynamics are so on point, is insane. The improvement is remarkable. Excellent job.
Wow!! this remaster is soooo tasty... I'm hearing instruments that I never heard in the original mix (including a bit of the dude with the grinder) well done! I am happy that it's back and even better than before.
Of course I absolutely love the mix and master here. My only gripe (if that) is that the snare is too phat at 8:26. I preferred the tight sound previously. It's what makes you want you say "Whoo" (which a few do once it kicks in).
While we hear some of the great moments we missed in the initial mix I just have some questions about some of the choices made in this recent mix. But I am not worried though, this is still great. And also, thanks for growing up in a village which forced me to download the old back in 2015 since I didn't have the data to stream my beloved Sylva when I wished to listen to it...😄and I still have some song like this one.
Having listened to this variant, still a bigger fan of the Dordrecht live. I feel like there the brass was better + the mastering is softer, doesn't tackle high ends so bold, which makes it perfect for such a tune
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written and performed, and all that despite having a bass solo (no disrespect to michael league, he makes the most of it). That Jay Jennings solo in the beginning is awesome, and that bill laurence ending just pure heartbreak. My god.
It was remixed/remastered by Michael League and Nic Hard. I presume that means he wasn't thrilled with the original mix and wanted it remixed for a 10 year edition. It also has an atmos version. The sound clarity and definition of the remix is astoundingly goof. The original got lost a bit in the mid range comparatively. A lot more crisp and definitive low end now, and the reverb and adjustments on individual string and horn sections make it sound HUGE.
The most goosebumpy piano solo ever. Every damn time!
I was there.....one of the most memorable musical experiences of my life! Bill's solo brought tears to my eyes.
Mine too
Just booked tickets for the new recording in January. Still cant believe it ! 🎉🎉🎉❤
We got our bill Laurence solo back!
That made my day. And Corey’s solo
What an amazing solo, and with those synths bubbling behind towards the end
Before listening: “remastered? Why? The last one was perfect.”
After listening: “wow”.
That Jay Jennings Flugelhorn solo doesn't get enough love. @1:46
It sounded better in the original I think.
@@MB-go6uy doubtfult, i can literally hear his spit engulf my entire existence.
@@MB-go6uyI agree. It sounded way more balanced in previous version. This tone is bit harsh. But still the phrasing of that solo is inspiring.

THIS IS THE CLEANEST VERSION EVER !!!!!!
Mikes solo is insane
Yeah they fixed a lot of things but honestly I LOVED the little imperfections
Metropole Orkest is a Juggernaut! This was Grammy Award-winning, and I suspect they may grab another with Louis Cole this or next year! Man, dude! Listen!
It’s back!!! It sounds even cleaner too. I was so worried this was gonna be off the internet forever
Me too! I wrote to them on Facebook, asking for this version, and it appears they listened.

Bill Laurance's solo was 🔥 👌🏾
