I’m new to PG’s solo stuff as a whole, was familiar with a few of his biggest hits. At the start of this year just suddenly became a real fan of him as a solo artist by initially discovering and watching a live show from 1978 on YT. What amazing synergy then to have this latest record to listen to right at the same time, especially after such a huge gap between i/o and Up…! And I absolutely adore i/o. It’s so rare for me to get excited about new stuff by legacy artists but this is an exception! The songs really pull me in and they sound natural, melodic and NOT overly laboured over at all. I can’t say it was worth the long wait because I didn’t wait, lol, but it is worthy to stand next to some of the classic albums for sure!
Panopticom, The Court, Four Kinds of Horses, and So Much are the standout songs, for me. I’ll put those in a playlist. The rest is good, although some get a bit long-winded and even boring. As an album I don’t think it justifies its run time. Peter Gabriel super fans should love it, though.
You have reviewed well. The production on the album is excellent and Peter, as you point out, sounds great. 8 out of 10 is a fair assessment. The songs are consistently good. There is none that I dislike.
Thanks for the positive feedback! It's great that you enjoyed the album too. The production and Peter's performance are indeed highlights. It's fantastic to find an album where there's not a single disliked track.
Hi John!!! i discover Peter Gabriel's work in the 80's with "So" and the next one..... then kind of lost track of him and what he was doing as a musician..... always loved the cool mix of commercial pop and prog/world music and yes the awesome videos and live shows (killer dvd's) Anyhow, it's still cool to see him releasing new music and in better shape than Phil Collins. cheers and be well
We have a 74 year old artist still making incredible and amazing music. If he takes a bit longer to produce new albums, I don't really care. I agree with the person who says that every thing he releases is a gift. I love this album and have been sharing tracks from it to everyone I can. Amazing, worth the wait, and just wonderful. I will also remind folks, that if you 'skip this concert' there is a chance that you might not get to see any more... 74 years old...
The album is OK but no, it wasn't worth the wait, no album or artist is worth a over 20 years wait, I'm a massive PG fan, since I've purchased Trespass but we are talking about an almost genrational gap. Everything would fall sort of flat.
Thanks for the review. I'm sorry to say I find the album quite disappointing and after having watched some of the tour videos I'm very glad I decided not to get tickets. Prefer to hold on to my great concert and album memories from the 80's.
@@jcrockandmetalreviewsHave you heard of the The Warning, it is a new rock power trio and I highly recommend you do i review of their album ERROR, it is a kick A$$ album, if you want to see them in action there are several videos here on YT. Best one the warning love at teatro Metropolitan CDMX Cheers
I saw the concert in Vancouver before the album came out and i was definitely disappointed hearing the whole album live. I think 6 songs could have been more than enough to showcase the new album. I liked This Is Home, Panopticom and The Court i think took to me at the show. Otherwise it was a bit meh.
If it's instant gratification you are after, if you have the musical attention span of a gnat or if you stream your music to your fone from an internet site and listen on bluetooth earbuds then sadly this album is probably not for you. Still, it'd be well boring if we all liked the same stuff. 😊
"Shock the Monkey" was covered by Coal Chamber on their second album. That cover was cringe as it had Ozzy as a guest vocalist and Ozzy sounded like garbage!
I'm surprised at all the negative comments. I think it is a great album with outstanding sound quality.
Yeah, that happens a lot when people are expecting the album to sound just like So.
We expect so much from our favorite artists. How much more can he give us? Every album is a gift.
Well said

Yes, I think this album has held up over the past few months.

That's fair. I agree that it can drag in a few spots.
@@jcrockandmetalreviews But don’t get it twisted, I would still give the album 8.5/10, which is pretty damn good.

I was the same. I remember him from the 80's with his music videos. I didn't even know he was in Genesis until years later.

Yes he still sounds very good for his age
I have to say this is my favorite PG album, definitely worth the wait!
That's awesome I'm glad you liked it
Such a great album and definitely worth the wait, I’d put it in my top 5 for sure!! 😄👍
Yeah, I would say the same.
@@jcrockandmetalreviews In my opinion, it’s better than the first 2 albums, “Us” and “Up”. 😄👍

It is very different. Peter just wanted to make the music he was feeling at this time I suppose.

That's fair. This album is different than his olther solo albums.
I had an uncle who looked just like Peter Gabriel. John, I want to be....your sledgehammer! 😂🤘🏼🍻
"Haha, that's hilarious! Having an uncle who channels Peter Gabriel must have made family gatherings legendary🤘🍻"

Yeah, I guess for a live show it would be better to hear old stuff.
I think of that boombox scene
It's a great scene 😃
@@jcrockandmetalreviews iconic
I listened to it, but I’m not drawn to keep playing it
I like everything before “up”
This album is boring
This is the type of album that you listen to when you want to chill out and relax. But, yeah, His older material was a lot different.
@@jcrockandmetalreviews I listen to plenty of chilled music
I’m a musician
I’m super picky
It just doesn’t work for me

How did you know? 😁

I think I have that album on CD it's called Loud Rocks
I just wish he would return to the more commercial sound of So and Us. I’m not a fan of this arty farty stuff.
That is true. This album is a lot more ambient that his older stuff, but it is good after a few listens.
Simply rubbish smartly marketed. Critics praise- polished vocabulary is highly misplaced.Peace.
I threw out my jar of Ambien because now I have IO to put me to sleep!
LOL it works very well
