I played this piece at 16 for an audition into North Carolina's Governor's School- there were 50 students competing for 3 slots. I studied with an instructor for months prior to this audition. Man, what a difficult piece for any flutist to attempt! I think Galway does the music justice.
@@rozannkraus5772 İf you think like that,Emmanuel Pahud is ''the man with Golden flute'' either. And Jean-Pierre Rampal was a legend but James Galway is good as him.
He is just so captivating as the flute he's playing alongside this piano. I am hoping to find something with him alongside a harpist playing Faure's Sicilienne.
WONDERFUL!! I so hate how stuck up flutists with not an ounce of Sir Galway's ability put him down. He's a master flutist, and I love how he took the flute to another level. Delving into other genres and reaching others that aren't necessarily "classically" orientated.
No, he is not as good as you think he is. He is a master of fingering. Otherwise his tone is disgusting. No body, no core, too much vibrato. There is plenty flutist who has nicer tone... His headjoint is turned in way too much, lip onening is too little
@@alhdgysz Yes he is as good as I think he is. I've seen him several times and been to some of his masterclasses. His tone is beautiful. My opinion as a flutist as well. Just like that's your opinion. It doesn't make it fact.
@@rudolphmcneill3333 as a flutist, you should know, what is the consequence of the too narrow lip opening and a headjoint turned in. Lack of different tone colours, a tone with no depth. (Lookup his masterclasses. There is one, where he is demonstrating the headjoint position) So it means, that he cannot utilize all of the capabilities of the flute. So he is not at the same quality as others, eg. Pahud
@@rudolphmcneill3333 there is an interview here at UA-cam, where he is playing the flute. You can hear that, he is struggling to maintain the second register. Johnny Machado In this hall, and this platform of playback (UA-cam) the sound is too big for this piece, for this hall and this music period. I have heard Sir James so many times live (also attended many of his masterclasses) and he's awesome, but not a fan of his interpretation.
