@@MrJambot the Brown solo stuff was just better. The Seahorses album was OK and got some play in the indie clubs but it was more of the same. Brown was making something different. Lots of variety with instruments and influenced by different styles. That's why he made 9 albums and released about 20 singles.
@@Purewalite Taylor Swift has released 9 studio albums as well. No offence, but you don't need to Britsplain to me. Leave that for the boys. I have no time for The Seahorses, Oasis, Ian Brown and most 90s indie landfill so I'm not the best person to debate these subjective issues with. I do like Noel Gallagher's voice though.
It was Squires Guitar tech, who spotted Chris in their home town, York, and fronted the idea to John. Chris has been a well known singer songwriter around town since he was a young un.

Saw the Seahorses open for blur in Portland around 1997 I think? John Squire refused to look at the audience. Was a modest gymnasium turned into a concert venue if memory serves. So, it was no Glastonbury. He made zero eye contact and just stood in the side and played his parts without any sort of joy. Even the band members knew to just let him be. They seemed like hired hands to Squire. The closest I’d ever get to the Stone Roses and what we got was a dude too above the goings on. Conversely, blur were fantastic. Damon jumped into the crowd and let us sing along with him arms around our shoulders. Sweetest guy. The whole band had a great time. They were in the moment…not floating above it like some guitar god having to slum it amongst us mere mortals.
Chris Helme (the singer) is from my home city of York, in the UK. He/we used to hang out at a cool indie bar (this was after the Seahorses split - probably around 2003). He's a really cool guy and pulls a decent pint! He was always very reluctant to discuss why the band split, though. "Creative differences" was as much as he'd ever say.
There's more rock n roll in my toe nail than Elbow. Typical clean hipster 2000s band. Like Keane or that Northern Irish band, what's their name Snow Patrol, shite bags 😂 😂 😂
Like Keane or Snow Patrol? Don't know what you're talking about dude, but Elbow are leagues above those bands. Guy Garvey is a proper nice bloke, no style over substance, and he writes a cracking tune.
However... despite them being a cracking band, I do agree with the "not rock and roll" aspect of the above comment. As such, I'm not sure the Suck guys would appreciate them very much.
Saw Chris Helme singing a solo gig in a tiny brewery in Leith, Edinburgh a few years ago. Lovely guy, great sense of humour and a top top voice. You should read the story of him busking in York before Squire eventually caved in to him being the lead in the Seahorses.
It was rumoured at the time that they were called The Seahorses as it's an anagram of He Hates Roses! In a similar vein, try Hurricane #1,Step into My World is a good place to start
Saw these guys in a small venue in Northampton. A great gig and John smashed it. Ended up partying with them afterwards a brilliant night. Great video guys
Correction from another Yorkie, Matt. Squires long time guitar tech from his days in the Roses is a fellow Yorkie and knew of/saw Chris a few times busking and suggested him to Squires.
Ian has a superb anthology of solo tracks. It's not my favourite by any means, but F.E.A.R. is the obvious one for you to review. Personally I love Time is my Everything! As an aside, Squire also put out 2 really decent solo albums IMHO. Obvious go-to tracks would be title track from 1st album Time Changes Everything and Automat from the 2nd
What a shame you reacted to the shortened version, Squire's solo is Zeppelinesque at times. Your next Seahorses reaction should be 'Blinded By The Sun', 'Love Me Or Leave Me', 'You Can Talk To Me', or the full version of 'Love Is The Law'.
Check out a song called 'what do you want from me',by a band named Monaco. Also another great British band to check out are the Lightning seeds, some fantastic songs....👍
Check out Driving South, Ten Storey Love Song, Love Spreads and Breaking Into Heaven by The Stone Roses if you like this, some of John Squire's ( guitarist here) best work imo. Also The Stone Roses debut album is amazing.
Hey dudes, you should really check out king gizzard and the lizard wizard. There is nobody doing what they do and so consistently, ranging from psycholodelic rock to 80s thrash to micro-tones
Lads, I'm taking my nephew to his first ever gig in December. The Charlatans in Manchester. Don't know if you've reacted to 'Telling Stories' (The song from the same titled album.) If you do it, could you give my nephew Jordan a shout out. He's been having a really bad time lately and it would make his day/year. ❤🤘🤞👌Peace and respect from Burnley, Lancashire.
The ‘Do It Yourself’ album is full of great songs. Proper amazing album. Also the album version of this song is better has about another 3-4 minutes extra to it.
Check out Blinded by the sun by the Seahorses 👌🏻 top tune
Their best by far....
Awesome song
Pukka tune!!!
FEAR by Ian Brown is worth checking out lads
Most definitely!!
No doubt!
Good shout. Beautiful video too.
What a tune
Definitely! And keep what ya got! His version of in the year 2525 is 🔥too.
The best part of the short lived Seahorses career is the guitar solo from Squire on the full version of this tun
The album version is 🔥 the solo is brilliant!
Yeah the solo is what its all about.. sad they watched s cut version ☹️
Agreed. I play the album version on repeat often
John Squire actually smiling in that video - he's so delighted to be able to play with someone that can sing!
Yet Brown had the more successful career after the Stone Roses. His solo stuff pisses all over the Seahorses.
@@Purewalite I think we know musical career success is not contingent on ability.

Controversial.
Ash - Girl From Mars
Seahorses: You can talk to me, Blinded by the sun, Love me and leave me
One of the funniest lyrics in any song ever
"Strap on Sally chased us down the ally, we feared for our behinds"
Makes me laugh every time.
Need to listen to full version.
Also Check out Kula shaker " Hey Dude" great stuff guys keep it up.
Best wishes UK Ravens Fan!
Fun Fact: Lead singer Chris Helme was spotted busking in a high street by a friend of John Squires. Right place at the right time!
It was Squires Guitar tech, who spotted Chris in their home town, York, and fronted the idea to John. Chris has been a well known singer songwriter around town since he was a young un.
And he was summoned to London to perform for John squire and Noel Gallagher to audition.
I'd recommend Shed 7.
Disco Down - ua-cam.com/video/wLbrJ_YEgk0/v-deo.html or
She Left Me On Friday (Live) - ua-cam.com/video/V_EvFAILvcc/v-deo.html (Starts at 8min)
Have a look at a band called “Feeder” lads, react to “just a day” or “buck rogers” - both would be ideal 😉
Literally the first band I saw in 1996. They weren't very good, generic Jane's Addiction pop-grunge. Opening for The Wildhearts who are still amazing!

You missed out playing the radio edit, lads. The album version has more Squire...and we always want more Squire.
Seahorses - Round the Universe. Really shows his guitar skills! Fun, proper guitar song
Primal scream - Rocks
Richard Ashcroft - A song for the lovers
Denise Johnson - True faith
OCS - Mechanical Wonder
Awesome song!!! Great reaction!!! Reminds me of happy days!!!

Any track from this album will do
Try their song called "love me and leave me" which is co written by squire and Liam Gallagher
I second Ian browns F.e.a.r lyrics are genius x
Give "Little Barrie" a go. You'll recognise one of their songs from the theme to "Better Call Saul". Stand you ground is a great album.
Still love that riff. Squire, the only man I've heard of that can't take a dump without a guitar
Nice one lads. Try: Elbow; On a day like this. It's fantastic and very uplifting.
There's more rock n roll in my toe nail than Elbow. Typical clean hipster 2000s band. Like Keane or that Northern Irish band, what's their name Snow Patrol, shite bags 😂 😂 😂

Supersonic documentary you neeeeeed to watch it
Listen to embrace...ashes
True story. The singer Chris Helme turned up to my band's second gig just after we finished playing. It was not his loss, we were awful...😂
Saw Chris Helme singing a solo gig in a tiny brewery in Leith, Edinburgh a few years ago. Lovely guy, great sense of humour and a top top voice. You should read the story of him busking in York before Squire eventually caved in to him being the lead in the Seahorses.
Chris rehearses all the time in York in the practise room next to ours!
We normally get see helme s few times a year.. Always an amazing gig..

Primal scream has made the list. Much love
It was rumoured at the time that they were called The Seahorses as it's an anagram of He Hates Roses! In a similar vein, try Hurricane #1,Step into My World is a good place to start
Curiously, Stuart Fletcher from The Seahorses plays bass with Hurricane #1 these days...
Saw these guys in a small venue in Northampton. A great gig and John smashed it. Ended up partying with them afterwards a brilliant night. Great video guys
Check out FEAR by Ian Brown - lyrical and musical genius
You have to hear the album version John Squires does an awesome guitar solo at the end
The singer was a busker in my home city of York. John Squires walked up and asked if he wanted to be in a rock band. Dream stuff right there!!
Correction from another Yorkie, Matt. Squires long time guitar tech from his days in the Roses is a fellow Yorkie and knew of/saw Chris a few times busking and suggested him to Squires.

You HAVE to do Love Spreads by The Stone Roses now. It’s Squire at his best
'Love Spreads' is their best imo.

Love Spreads Stone Roses pls if you're gonna enter the rabbit hole you gotta go through that tune 🤣
