I also appreciate the humor. Plus the intellectual depth. He reminds me of a guy that i used to know, who was just a BRILLIANT thinker. And he could elaborate on any topic, but especially Art. Andy talks EXACTLY like that guy. Only with a British accent. My only complaint is that i have trouble with the accent. But im getting used to it. I believe your channel and all of your content are unique on UA-cam. I enjoy your take on music,art, dance ect. I very much appreciate hearing your take on politics and culture. All of the arts are influenced by them. Your deep dives into philosophy and spirituality. This is the most profound source of inspiration in all of the arts. In my opinion.. folks who complain about your topics of discussion, don’t understand what you’re saying about the creative community. They should just settle for watching Rick Beato. A phrase that was used by my parents as a way of correcting my blabbermouthing ways was that it was better for others to think me an idiot rather than open my mouth and prove it...and to never fight with stupid people because they would always beat you through experience... It had a humbling effect at the dinner table...

Taking American things ? Rock n Roll, Country …were do you really think that they came from in the first place ? Thin air ? The influences came from Europe (UK, Ireland, France etc etc ) and the African and West Indies lads . They are just better what the Americans (well, immigrants to America) tried (in terms of rock n roll )

I'm hoping a reasonable restating is "excellence is a judgement that can take time and always involves other people's judgement". This is what folk who live only on social media, and the post modernist 70s French intellectuals, lose/lost sight of; we live in a world with other people who may not agree with us, yet still may need our help and respect.
I've been guilty of this once on your posts. And it was only down to your chosen title tbf. The greatest music artists of all time. No Beethoven or Mozart. That doesn't make sense. Everytime I listen to the first 4 seconds of the first solo album from Steve Hackett... In my ideal band... it I had to choose between one or the other.... I'd go with Phil. Two things (not 10): You are a true raconteur and you have an encyclopedic knowledge of music (all of it). I’m 75 years old and I’ve been an avaricious consumer of music for 67 or so years. I know a fair amount of what you speak of but you dwarf my knowledge. Interesting people are problematic to the huddled grey masses. I’m not claiming to be interesting but I can recognize it. I did buy the VU banana album when it came out. I loved that, Transformer and Rock n Roll Animal, but the rest were mediocre. Cheers!

The Velvet Underground section of the clip is basically a brief summary of hipsterism. Of course the Velvet Undies stink, they've got Lou Reed with them. The indie rock scene has always been about pompousness, sloppiness, laziness - and a pathological pride in all those three things.
I don't agree that Indie possesses those characteristics over its history, but some of the Indie I've listened to recently is about as exciting as Muzak.
I am a subscriber (and I encourage others to), but I hadn't appreciated the added bonus of the comments section. This video has opened up a whole new joyfully hilarious aspect of the channel. Andy insists it is for Jazz and Prog enthusiasts - but I am tepid with both genres. On another note, I recently was entertained by Stewart Copeland at Loughborough Town Hall. She has had a photo of him in her office for the past ten years. She isn't a Slade fan. Double dog dittos for The Beach Boys and The Velvet Underground. I'm 73. I was there when these bands were current. I bought my first drum set in 1965. Helped form a really bad band in1966. Am from Detroit. Got to know people from The Amboy Dukes, Scott Richard Case (SRC), The Frost, The Underdogs. You would think somewhere I'd have run into The Velvet Underground. Nope. And nobody had any interest in The Beach Boys and that includes "Pet Sounds". But the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds (their first album changed my life at age 13), The Animals. They were kings. Then came Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and all the dynamite garage bands with songs that made you just want to go out and try to find a girl. The Rationals doing "Respect" was transcendent. (That rhythm guitar - you could almost eat it it was so good). Richard and the Young Lions doing "Open Up Your Door", Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels doing "Too Many Fish In The Sea", The Wanted "In The Midnight Hour". Seeing Hendrix in '68 for $3.00, Janis Joplin & Big Brother & The Holding Company for $2.50 at The Grande Ballroom, and so many others. Procol Harum, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, on and on. Man, what a blessing to grown up when I did.
I like not 'hating' mere opinion. BTW, listening as I write, I never 'got' Velvet Underground and especially with so many great musical alternatives that fit no mold. Iggy Pop And the Stooges live in '70' made more of an impression on me. And an 'all nighter' with King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra on the turntable transformed my listening. In the late seventies i came across Gentle Giant, an acquired taste fir me, which is tasty to this day. And all through it one of my vices in life since 12 years old is pop music.
Watching this has prompted thoughts for 2 topics for you Andy. A. Albums that were critically acclaimed on release that haven't aged well. 1. Pet Sounds B. How did rocknroll expand so much in the UK compared to USA the home of the seeds of rocknroll.

Double dog dittos for The Beach Boys and The Velvet Underground. I'm 73. I was there when these bands were current. I bought my first drum set in 1965. Helped form a really bad band in1966. Am from Detroit. Got to know people from The Amboy Dukes, Scott Richard Case (SRC), The Frost, The Underdogs. You would think somewhere I'd have run into The Velvet Underground. Nope. And nobody had any interest in The Beach Boys and that includes "Pet Sounds". But the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds (their first album changed my life at age 13), The Animals. They were kings.
Then came Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and all the dynamite garage bands with songs that made you just want to go out and try to find a girl. The Rationals doing "Respect" was transcendent. (That rhythm guitar - you could almost eat it it was so good). Richard and the Young Lions doing "Open Up Your Door", Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels doing "Too Many Fish In The Sea", The Wanted "In The Midnight Hour". Seeing Hendrix in '68 for $3.00, Janis Joplin & Big Brother & The Holding Company for $2.50 at The Grande Ballroom, and so many others. Procol Harum, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, on and on. Man, what a blessing to grown up when I did.

I like not 'hating' mere opinion. BTW, listening as I write, I never 'got' Velvet Underground and especially with so many great musical alternatives that fit no mold. Iggy Pop And the Stooges live in '70' made more of an impression on me. And an 'all nighter' with King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra on the turntable transformed my listening. In the late seventies i came across Gentle Giant, an acquired taste fir me, which is tasty to this day. And all through it one of my vices in life since 12 years old is pop music.
Watching this has prompted thoughts for 2 topics for you Andy.
A. Albums that were critically acclaimed on release that haven't aged well.
1. Pet Sounds
B. How did rocknroll expand so much in the UK compared to USA the home of the seeds of rocknroll.
