Fifty years ago, Newport hosted "Monumenta," one of the world’s first large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibitions, featuring 54 monumental works by artists like Willem de Kooning, Christo, and Alexander Calder. Thirty of these sculptures were displayed at Chateau-sur-Mer and The Elms, with Richard Fleischner’s “Sod Maze” still in its original location at Chateau-sur-Mer.
