  • This is my G scale indoor ceiling layout (I am building for my daughter) shot from an ACTIVE ON cam strapped to my trolley. The shelving portion is only finished in the dining room loop. I still have to case out openings, sort out remote track switching options (android control would be nice), install base cap, caulk & paint. Taking a break for a while... ENJOY. (disclaimer - No double 2x10 door headers were harmed in the making of this layout. Do not try attempt this at home unless you know the structure and function of your wall framing.)

    You must have a very understanding wife to allow you to cut holes in the walls of every room. :)

      If she likes trains, it isn’t difficult to get approval. Then the decision about which scale to use is next.

    I did this in my garage in 2002.....only in HO scale.G scale was not easy to get way back then.Throughout the years I have shown it to many of friends and strangers....and now as a retired union plumber.....this is my second calling to hire myself out when I am bored.So far I have done 3 layouts in HO scale and 2 in O guage for others..So far my set ups are just circles.but your ideas are way cool....going through walls.I got the idea when a guy that owned a McDonalds restaurant down in Brown County Indiana did an overhead layout in G scale on top of plexi glass panels.

    That is cool. I'm going through a divorce and I have HO scale and thought this is the time to make a most of the house layout. It will start in the basement. Do you have any suggestions? I'm wanting also to be able to put scenery and stuff along the way for towns named after some of my family. I approached my soon to be ex-wife and she said no. Even though she moved in.

    • @donbailey6600
      @donbailey6600  6 років тому +5

      I laid all the curves out on paper full scale before doing any building/cutting. Also, I found an oscillating cutting tool indispensable for cutting through the walls. I plan on doing scenery too as time permits.

      You're right she moved in... That's your house my brother... She's gone... Enjoy it... Make sure you build a cemetery along the way of your layout with a couple of gravesites/tombstones & put her name on one... And the names of whoever you don't deal with anymord... Lol... Stay blessed...

      I probably did the whole house for somewhere between $1 - $1.5K I would guess. that includes track but no trains. I have no idea how many hours it took, I worked on it for a couple months per year for almost 4 years. It looks much better now that everything is finished. I do find the aluminum track needs cleaning about every 6 months, then I dress it with a little light machine oil (and I mean a little). That seems to make it a little quieter. The trolley sees the most action, its super quiet and I run it at about 3-5 volts and it creeps from room to room. Takes about 2 minutes for full run at that speed. Here's a link to a quick Halloween scene we did a couple months ago. ua-cam.com/video/WOmESG_L2uM/v-deo.html
