    I have this and would recommend this mount. I am using is on an Orion Paragon HD tripod with at 1/4-20 screw using a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter to seat the mount. It is pretty solid with my AT80ED with the 8x50 RACI, two-inch diagonal and my favorite 25mm eyepiece. The movements are pretty smooth once I got the various screws and nuts adjusted to my liking. I must add that out of the box I don't think SVBony is big on quality control. I had about 1cm of play in the arm where it connects to the base. Makes it tough when trying to stay on target while slewing with the provided handle. I thought I didn't have the screw tight enough. It turns out that there was about a 2-3mm gap between where the arm and the base connect. The quick fix was to get some black electrical tape and wrap it around the base fitting until I could get the arm on it without any play. Now it is rock solid. I have the arm at the 45-degree angle so I can reach the zenith. Overall, it is a good mount at the price point it is sold. I probably wouldn't mount anything over 15 pounds on it though. Clear skies!

      I appreciate all that info. I do agree it’s not perfect but for the price point it’s pretty good. I do notice that little tiny bit 12 mm slop on it. Maybe I’ll try your idea. Thanks for mentioning that about putting electrical tape and hopefully that fixes that.

    So true about manufacturers overrate their capability of the mounts.. if your scope is 5kg you want a mount rated for 10kg!
    Nice review Joe!

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  6 місяців тому

      Yeah, I wanted to make it clear that not only did they did that for this mount, but most mounts are most manufacturers do the same so I wanted to be fair in saying that

    Nice review, and a nice mount. I've always considered it a good rule of thumb to never go above 70% of the advertised max load, so your 15 lbs. recommendation sounds spot on to me.

    Joe, it's an easy solution to mount the Allen wrench on the vertical brace. Glue a neodymium bar magnet in the front edge of the brace to hold the wrench.

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому

      True it’s a very easy fix. I did mine with a Velcro wrapped around the arm. I suppose it could fall if I’m not too careful or I’m walking with it it just would’ve been neat if there was some more secure way that would’ve been included.

    This was a great review! After watching your video, I went and compared to my old used Twilight. It only has one safety bolt. The axis lockdown levers look identical. There is a handle "available" for the Twilight, but you have to pay extra. I'ts a big flat sheet metal thing. Anyow, great video.

    I noticed that Svbony now sells the 102/714 mm ED FPL51 refractor for just 499$. A few months ago it was 600$, in December it was 540$ and now they sell it with an very low price of just 499$. Other companies sell the same refractor for 760$ (like TS Optics and others).

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I know that about a year and a half or maybe slightly more I was in talks with them I don’t know exactly who it is now I bought the 80 mm version did a review sent them to that then I did a test of the 80 mm
      I contacted them about doing a third video with the 102 and if I can get compensation or try to make a deal with them they offered me like maybe 10% off the price of the 102 which to me did not seem like a good deal for three videos deal never went through
      Ended up deleting all 2 videos And got the 102 maybe in time they’ll contact me once I grow bigger and then make me a better offer

    Excellent video. Yes the Svbony SV225 is a copy of the Twilight but it also is better because it has a handle (the Twilight doesn't) and it has 3 screws to lock the telescope (the Twilight has just 2).

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      It also has the brace in the middle of the side which the twilight doesn’t so I think that stiffens it a little bit
      There’s no way that he can do 22 pounds though as it claims, but I think it’s a slightly better version than the twilight however, this one is coming couple years after the twilight was introduced so they had more time to improve on it
      Thanks for the comment again

    Slow motion knobs, if they are smooth enough, can be a fair compesation for other shortcomings of the setup. Then the worst enemy may be wind, even for much sturdier mounts. Skywatcher az 5 head seems to be similar in functionality to this one, and I'm using it with maksutov 127/1500 on heavy tripod for planetary observations. Short tube masutov or sct telescopes up to 6 inch aperture may be very good on such alt-az mounts for shorter grab-and-go observations, as long the optical tube was in cold place long enough before.

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому

      Hi, thanks for your comment and watching the video. I agree with pretty much everything you said.
      This is a decent amount for medium size stuff, very similar to the twilight. I was just showing what the differences could be the sky watcher. Az5 is another good mount in this category. I have not gotten one, so I can’t review it but all three seem to be pretty decent in this weight class. Thanks again for watching.

    Good review Joe! I like it! I have a Swift 3" on a WW2 ex-military (machine gun) tripod with an EQ head and tube rings. Very solid! Of course I wont swap it, but for purely practical reasons, this Alt-Az mount & tripod is obviously much more practical, especially for beginners. I'd set it (and leave it) on 45 degrees. Its easy to rotate the tripod to give access to the zenith.

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      I agree I probably would just leave it at the 45 it can really pretty much do all the angles that you need even horizontal for a daytime viewing like birdwatching if somebody wanted to

    good choice by svbony, have a twilight 1 and love it. Svbony do punch above the price. the 8 to 3mm zoom eyepice they have is also legit. just not so impressd by the refractors they offer. but price value is fantastic

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, it looks like a decent little mount. Although the twilight came maybe two years ago so the SV Boney had time to make it better
      I also am coming out with the review of that IP piece 3 to 8 mm zoom by SV bone as well. That might come out in about four or five weeks.

    My Twilight mount does have a safety bolt. The Twilight also cannot hold a lot of weight. My Skywatcher 100ED is too much for it. It might be the moment arm.

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      OK so it has the locking nut and then a safety nutgotcha
      I think you’re right because it’s kinda along your scope I don’t think weighs that much but it’s kind of long
      Thanks for watching the video

    • @3dfxvoodoocards6
      @3dfxvoodoocards6 7 місяців тому +1

      Doesn't the Skywatcher 100ED weigh just 3 kg / 7 pounds ?

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      @@3dfxvoodoocards6 probably about there but the thing is it’s really long so which means the longer something is the more the momentum arm is going to be or the vibration is going to be
      It’s gonna be more susceptible to wind, kinda almost like a teeter totter so the longer you go on it the more the movement is going to be compared to right in the middle where the mounting is

  • @BurningFlame1999

    Interesting mount. Do you consider it a good az-mount ? Is it better than the ES Twilight ?

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому +1

      I think it is slightly better. It has the handle it has the brace in the middle of the hole on the side and it has three locking nuts.
      Besides that everything else is mostly the same
      Remember though the explorer scientific twilight is probably been out for two or three years at least, so this one had a lot of time to make it better, but if you had to choose, I would probably choose one I guess
      Thanks for watching the video

    Joe can you please tell me if it makes sense to buy a UHC filter for visual observations? I live in a Bortle 6 city and I thought about buying a Svbony UHC or/ and CLS filter but I don’t know if they are effective or not for visual observations. Thank you!

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  7 місяців тому

      Yes, I think everybody should have at least one nebula filter and a portal zone. Six is actually pretty decent. It definitely helps but remember it’s only on nebulous.
      It does not work on it. Anything else like a galaxy or whatever but it does have a decent improvement on an nebula.
      I would recommend if you only were going to get one get like narrow band filter
      Actually, all four types
      The first type is like a broadband filter. The second one is a narrowband filter. The third model is called an oxygen three or an 03 filter and then the fourth one is called each beta filter.
      The fourth one is only for a handful of items and the first one is a bit light but if you have a smaller telescope, that can work on that
      The more narrow band that you get the more light blocks, but I think you have a decent enough aperture that the narrow band will work nicely

      I’ve never personally tested the CLS or the SV boney filter. They should be OK but I can’t guarantee how good they are.
      Mine or the Thousand Oaks model, which I think is a higher namebrand. Also, the Licon is a very high quality namebrand as well.

      I never had the sky watcher az4 you could be correct, but I can’t really say yes or no
      What I didn’t notice about these type of mounts if you just hand tighten them from above
      I think if it has some type of hand nuts underneath the hub, and then you can really tighten it down would be more secure

    This mount works well with my old Celestron C8 OTA, a relatively compact, and short tube. You’re being affected by the length of your scope, and the substantial torque resulting from that length.

    • @JoeJaguar
      @JoeJaguar  4 місяці тому +1

      OK, I can see how it works for you because the SCT is shorter and it doesn’t have a long momentum arm
      In an upcoming video, I do put a Celestron 8 inch SCT on it and it seems reasonably well however I don’t know what high powers how the vibration will be, but it could be OK I guess
      In your case, and you like it then I say just enjoy it
