    I have been on a bit of a bing of your videos today and I have to say you are extremely helpful, thank you very much. you've made it so much easier to navigate the minefield that is Eyepieces and Barlows.

    A year ago I bought a similar Svbony barlow, but with compression ring and different lense coating for the same price. Having numerous not very expensive eyepieces, I've found that sometimes I prefer to use this barlow, rather than to switch to higher magnification eyepiece.
    Another use of this barlow is a simple extension tube (with removed lense tip), when there's not enough focuser length to reach focus, for example if to use a refractor or an RC scope without a diagonal.

    i have heard you mention adding just the barlow optic on the bottom of an eyepiece once before. I tried it last night with great results. it adds some power without the extra dimming i get with the 2x barlow.
    thanks, that is a great tool to add.

      Isn’t it supposed to reduce the power using it that way?

    After trawling Amazon for a new Barlow and being undecided, I stumbled across your video and have just ordered this Svbony Barlow. I'm pleased to report it's only £19.99 today (7/11/23). Absolute bargain. Thanks for the review.

      I did the same thing 😅 This should make it a lot of fun with my son. We spent a whole lot longer staring at stars that we couldn't really see with his dad's telescope that I had no idea how to work. So I bought one that is mom proof!

    It looks very similar to my Skywatcher one. Before people say that the one included with Skywatcher telescopes do not have the thread and the lens cannot be taken out, I know but I took a chance on one that I was able to get for a tenner.
    There is another trick you can do if you take it apart - that is to put a filter in place of the glass so that you do not have to swap the filter if you are switching eyepieces.

    I basically have the same model (it came in a set of four - 3 eyepieces and a Barlow) and I can guarantee that it is very useful. I have filmed several astronomy videos using it.

    I get disappointment everytim using a barlow, the view gets blurry and details on planets for instance decrease. I just used it once and was able to enjoy the view in two years of hobby, during Mars opposition a few months ago. Great video as always Jason!

      You might be going past the useful magnification of your telescope using the Barlow and whatever eyepiece you have in.

    Hey, I got a Celestron 60 powerseeker as a first telescope and for the last 2 months I’ve seen most of our solar system friends. I’ve been thinking in a upgrade for my eyepiece. I heard very great things about the X-Cel-Lx series of eyepieces from celestron. I want better planetary viewing that also offers a good field of view for stat clusters. Any opinion?

    • @edufau815
      @edufau815 Рік тому

      They are good eyepieces but they are somewhat expensive in my opinion... Precisely Svbony has eyepieces that will offer you similar views and at a lower cost... Two of the SWA series that I have not tested, 2.5mm and 4mm, with TMB design, which It is always a guarantee, and one of the 6mm UWA (68º AFOV) series that I have tested and it seems to me to be a good eyepiece. I also own a 3-8mm planetary zoom eyepiece (56º AFOV), also from Svbony, which gives excellent views at all focal lengths, and is also parfocal, although here the investment is a bit higher.

    Interesting, I got an SVBony SV137 2X barlow through their store and it has the same kind of removable lens assembly. Except the main body is a silver finish, not black, and also there's no external M42 thread on the top. It performed great when I used it a few months ago. Their products are great value, bless 'em.....but SVBony really need to put more effort into differentiating their products. Comparing a 2X barlow and a 2X barlow without clearly stated functional differences is just downright confusing for the consumer.

    Hi Jason....im wondering if ishould get the 3x instead of the 2x?

    • @smalloptics753
      @smalloptics753  5 місяців тому

      @tonycruise6481 Hello Tony . Personally, I would choose the 2 x . A 3x Barlow is usually to much for most telescopes. I know it sounds a bit counterintuitive but too much magnification will actually show less.. Remember, every telescope has a max and minimum useful magnification, and generally people over power there scope . To know the maximum magnification of any telescope simpley double the aperture in millimeters.. for instance a telescope with a 60 mm aperture will have a maximum 'useful ' magnification of 120 x. Hope this helps, go for the 2 X. Clear skies buddy.

      Hello Stephen, it's debatable really and the difference is negligible but if you twisted my arm I would choose the svbony because of the additional T-thread.

  • @Johnnybox81

    I mean it seems a bargain for the price but is it really that much of an upgrade on the supplied skywatcher one? I've had the stock Skywatcher 2x since 2015 but I never really use it much to be honest.

  • @BennyKleykens
    @BennyKleykens Рік тому

    Not sure if you've done any reviews on Angeleyes eyepieces or not. In my Mak127 they kinda suck, maybe beter in other scopes. However, figured out something interesting about them : their 6mm eyepiece (likely all of their high power eyepieces) is actually a lower power eyepiece (I think 18mm) with increased magnitude because the bottom piece (that can be screwed off) is actually a barlow (my estimate 3x barlow)! Without the barlow part it actually performs better (less astigmatism) but at a lower magnitude (and still not great) . Just thought that may interest you and others. Sid note: can't use these with a barlow as they already have a barlow build in!

    Great vid mate.
    I have been looking into buy a 2x Barlow because I have only 1 good eyepiece which is a SVBONY SV113 1.25inch 16mm Telescope Eyepiece 65 degree Wide Angle FMC/HD from eBay.
    I will be buying 1 of that Barlow lens because I also have a T adaptor for my Canon DSLR camera.

    What is the difference between a Barlow and a "powermate" / focal extender? Are they just different names for the same thing or is there a real difference?

      You don't need a lens with a camera attached, and adding a Barlow will double the magnification.

    Wellll. I bought the Celestron Omini 2x Barlow . It works... but inserting it Reduces image quality noticably..
    Not a huge amount but there IS a noticeable/unmistakable reduction in Clarity.
    Barlows work.... but NOT perfectly and certainly not seamlessly....at this price point.

    • @mikas2051
      @mikas2051 Рік тому

      Also, magnification itself reduces image quality by atmospheric interference... when judging image quality of a Barlow, I recommend using it on your smallest magnification eyepiece... if you do not observe same reduction in quality as with already short focal length one when barlowed, then you might also be running in to having just too much magnification for the weather.
