Barbara Walters interviews Fidel Castro from Havana, Cuba -- 25 years after her first interview with the Cuban leader. Her original interview made a little history because people got their first real look at the man. Although Castro is known for very long speeches, he rarely does interviews.
Fidel Castro, 76 at the time of this interview, has outlasted nine US presidents. He's on his tenth. His rule continues to inspire both fear and devotion. He tells Barbara Walters that Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev lied to both President John F. Kennedy and Cuba, heightening the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The reason why it's hard for Barbara to understand Castro is because her mindset is bourgeiose. In her mind is wealth, money, and luxury and all the material things in life. She could not understand that many Cubans don't want that kind of materialist lifestyle. The prententious bourgeiose lifestyle. Her intellect is not even close to Castro and that's why she could not understand his logic. She's like a kid interviewing a father on political and economic issues

Yeah no my family is from Cuba and healthcare can’t treat shit, education is shit, and if speak against the government you can get thrown out of school. Not to mention that other Latin American countries had a larger increase in literacy rates without installing dictatorial regimes and the fact that these literacy rates come from the very same regime that lies about everything. If Cuba grants its citizens human rights, the embargo gets lifted. Why? Look at China now. Sanctions were lifted there and it has now become the most powerful totalitarian regime in the world committing genocide by definition of the UN. That’s not to mention the countless countries that can still trade with Cuba and do regularly. But wait wasn’t Castro the one who threw foreign business out of Cuba? Why does the regime need it so much now? See, it’s all lies and propaganda and you’ve fallen for it.

    • @RobJimenezMusic
      @RobJimenezMusic 3 роки тому +3

@@christianmorales8978 that embargo is not designed to be lifted. It was meant to cripple Cuba into US demands. Who’s gonna hold the US accountable for bullying Cuba into submission just because they hope to have their “island Las Vegas” there again? Why should Cuba become the type of Government the US wants it to be? That same old my government is better than your government bs mentality from the 1960’s is the problem. You want to point a finger to the reason Cuba’s financial situation is the way it is? Point it at the US. Is the Cuban government perfect? A bunch saints? Of course not! But just because criminals preach democracy and wear nicer suits doesn’t make their crimes any less serious or damaging.

Also if you really want to blame someone or something for Cuba economic demise, blame the U.S. Economic Embargo against Cuba. Which was designed to cripple and destroy the Cuban economy in an estimated 2-3 years. Much to the credit of the Cuban people, they are still standing, poor but standing. The U.N. has condemned the embargo 32 years in a row, Pope John Paul the 2nd also condemned it, and almost all countries around the world see at an unjust and stubborn show of force against cuba!

@@davidcuevaworld When a political figure really works for the people they get reelected, the reason it is so difficult to understand for someone who lives in capitalism is that our politicians are horrible.
Castro has given the average Cuban the life expectancy of a US citizen and the best healthcare outside the first world, all under a brutal embargo, no wonder why he stayed in power for so long.
For the most part Cuban """refugees""" in the US are former Batista collaborators, compradors and capitalists, to whom the cuban people obviously weren't kind. (There are good people too, I'm sure, but this has nothing to to with the immense good socialism did to the cuban people).
Japan has been ruled by the same party since 1955 but I don't see anyone calling it a dictatorship.
The US has been ruled by the same two (fairly identical) parties since 1852, but Cuba is the dictatorship here right?

@@justanormalyoutubeuser3868 It's so convenient to support that ideology and then go and eat an steak (example), most cubans will never taste that "red gold" (that''s how they call meat). What happened with the cows? the US embargoed the grass?
It is easy to support that ideology and then take a shower or simply use toilet paper, while Cubans spend months without those things, and you can even find women who prostitute themselves for soap, etc. (but they have top notch health system?).
I insist, if you have the opportunity to talk to a Cuban who ESCAPED, do it. There are generations of them, perhaps who did it in the 60/70's where friends with Batista. But right now, there are young people who were not born when that happened. And I said, ESCAPED, because they have NO LIBERTY to just walk out, like the millions in Venezuela did recently, and now are homeless in neighbour countries.
Right now, we can disagree with each other, and its fine. But in Cuba, or in any socialist/communist country, you can be KILLED for this "offense", you can be killed if you practice a religion that the dictator does not support, etc.
It is ok to look for social justice, but I'm afraid that examples of it are not found in socialist/communist countries. The same pattern is repeated in every country. And is not an opinion, its history. The world is making a big mistake by not taking left propaganda seriously and supporting this nonsense ideologies. I'm sure we can build a better world, but it must be socialist free, if we want to be free people.

@@davidcuevaworld It is very convenient to pretend the embargo and constant military threat of the USA have no impact on the Cuban economy.
It is also convenient to compare Cuba, a 3rd world country, with the 1st world. Compare Cuba with neighbouring states, compare Cuba with Haiti. The truth is Cuba has a much higher quality of life than that of its region, achieving a life expectancy equal to that of the US despite continous sabotage.
Compare Cuba to what it was before: a corrupt military dictatorship ruled by mafia and sold out to imperialist powers, when literacy was rare and most Cubans never saw a doctor in their entire life.
This is not a matter of opinion, this is history and if someone tells you the opposite they're either ignorant or they're lying. Bourgeois scum were the only people to enjoy a decent life
I can understand why Cuba sees it as a crime to support that regime which committed so many crimes, it is also obvious that they need as much workpower as they can to resist pressures from the US so they can't afford to lose people to richer countries.

    • @davidcuevaworld

@@justanormalyoutubeuser3868 Cuba has been a corrupt military dictatorship. A typical breakfast for a Cuban is Kitchen Oil with salt and bread, ask a Cuban. Google about "la libreta". Not what Cuban government says.
Yes, Haiti is not good, but if you compare Cuba with other South-Central America countries, you'll notice that the they have access to better food (even better than the US, I think). People do have access to beef, and toilet paper, etc.
In the other hand, think about this: Imagine that you are Fidel. And that the circumstances doesn't let you give your people access to good food or all the things to live a good life, as long as you remain in office.
But if you resign and give the country to "democracy" (he promised free elections, never happened) to capitalism, they will have a chance for a better life, freedom to move, to protest, to think, etc.

01/28/23 This clown said: "I have nothing to hide..." but forgot to add how many Cuban patriots did he and his brother kill with the help of "Soviet military advisers"? It was a deadly massacre, a genocide where 750,000 CUBANS were officially killed! WHAT FOR? WHY SAYING IT WILL NOT GET BETTER, ONLY WORSE? And today it is said that he was a commander and what he did was for the revolution! He overthrew the Batista government, that's fine, but he should hand over power to the people in free and democratic elections. Today, power is being handed over to Cuba from one thief to another. Who doesn't care how Cubans live? Living conditions in Cuba are terrible. The water is udrinkable, there is no food, there are Cubans standing in line for bread at night for 4-5 hours and when they arrive at the counter, there is no bread because there was not enough flour! Road transport is very poor. The roads are heavily damaged, dark and unlit at night, leading to fatal accidents! The basic food in Cuba for all Cubans is precisely pasta in oil, which is called oil, but what it contains nobody knows. The police are representatives of supercorruption. It is better not to argue with these morons because they will not help anyone and will only arrest Cubans for nothing!

@farleftloon I'm sure some Cubans could very well read what you just wrote, and a much larger percentage than in other Latin American countries. If you're referring to a limited access to the internet, than that like everything else you find problematic with their country stems from American oppression. Unlike China, their government's interest lies in protection rather than secrecy. You speak of a Cuba under the effects of an embargo that chiefly deprives Cubans of their potential prosperity.

The embargo is totally just politics. This country doesn’t just embargo countries because of “lack of freedom.” We don’t do that to other countries, in fact we have very close economic relations with dictatorships. The only reason the embargo hasn’t been listen is because politicians don’t want to lose votes in Florida.

just becasue cuba has a corrupt socialism does not mean that socialism cannot be democratic.fascism could be democratic.i am in no way a socialist and i disagree with castro on 90% of the issues but there is a such thing as a democratic socialism it has just yet to be practiced due to a little thing called revolutions.castros socialism is not even socialism there could be so many other programs to help workers . i didnt mean to insult u and i can sympathize with the struggles you had in cuba

It cannot be denied that Castro holds great popularity amongst ordinary cubans. Otherwise he wouldn't have been in power so long. And there would have been a counter-revolution when his brother took over.
There wasnt, so you go do the math.

I 'd say No more embargo, I am sorry for saying that Fidel is right on this, embargo brings no glory to the US. I do love US and I do love my country Cuba and Cubans. God bless both countries.

The only reason some of the countries you mentioned need digging out is because they have huge, insupportable social programs. If it's not pure capitalism, a country will slow down and suffer what we're witnessing today in Europe and the U.S.
