Hello, if you buy some springsteel plates, shape it like an slightly open U und put this between your parallel plates in the Vise, the parallel plate will always stay on your vise if you open it. Your setup will then be vise, parallel plate, spring steel, parallel plate, vise. Make sure the spring steel is not higher than the parallel plates. Greetings from Germany ^^
Great video, nice to see the shaper back in action, Thank you for the shout out and the compliment "young man", I think I am about four years older than you 😂 ATB Mark
Hi Michel, good to see you in freezing cold shop, turning a round thing into a rectangle thing and a rectangle thing into a holy thing of beauty. Cheers…..
The clamps are going to be very useful I’m sure. Nice bit of shaper action too. Like you I’m finding this cold weather hard to contend with. Roll on the spring time. Keep well Michel. Cheers Nobby
Nice project and looks great. Looking foward to the completion. Using Round stock to make a squared off workpiece is rightup my alley. Using what you got to make what you need...I will have to add this project to my list. I just upgraded my heat situation in the workshop. Agree the older I get the harder to work inthe cold becomes...Cheers.
Michel, I have seen thousands of engineering videos but this is the first video where the opeator is having a snack whilst machining steel. Groundbreaking work!!
Hi Michel, Who'd have thought those milling table clamps were hidden in those bars!! Lovely bit of shaping. Hope your keeping warm and out of the storm thats crossing north Europe. Have a great weekend!!
This clamp is perfect for your mill! I am sure that many folks with smaller mills will be making one thanks to you. Those countersinks looked great. Two great additions to your shop.
You just gave me an idea to solve a problem that I had. I need to clamp a tool which is not parallel, with a slight modification to this tool I will be able to finally clamp the tool safely and finish the top surface in one pass. Thank you!
Thanks Michel . So nice to see conventional machines and not cnc . My little work shop has a myford lathe and a Walker Turner drill press now i am looking for a milling machine but thay are to expensive here in South Africa. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi Rusti, Do yourself a favour and make a set of stub drills from old full size jobber drills. Cut them off short with an angle grinder and resharpen them. I have a complete set that I have made over the years and I couldn't work without them. Costs next to nothing.
Michel, Thank you sir for this great video. I will make some for my mill.We had our first blizzard in south Louisiana. I hope it is our last. Take car my friend!
Strange I just got the material to make some of these both for my shaper and my milling machine, just made the shaper T nuts today, hybrid nuts for imperial shaper, but with M12 threads, so the clamping system for the milling machine work with them
I have a simmilar problem with my nuts in the mashine shop at the moment. I wonder if it was better in the olden days when everything was steam driven?
Thanks Michel 👍
Good one Rusty . I wish my shop was a bit cooler ! 👍
I think I can understand that :)
Nice vice, Michel. Future project for my shaper❤.
Regards, Preso
Go for it.
Thanks

Sometimes I use a sponge. It works fine too.

You're welcome.
Just cruise along no rush , you don't have a boss up your arse !
Kit from down under
Good to get an old project done and out of the way.
I wonder how many machinists would contemplate using round bar to make square clamps? You proved that there is no reason not to. Expertly done. 👏👏👍😀

Great thing to have with the Deckel. It's been very cold here. -24c in the morning. Blah. Looking forward to spring time.
That's cold...
We always make round things flat and flat things round.
the shaper is the most civilized metalworking machine.
I need a shaper, then I to can watch the work being done whilst happily munching crisps, awesome 😂👍
You will find one. Go for it.

What saves me in my shop is a battery powered heated hoodie.....it really saves me in the winter!

Thanks Michel. I was thinking the same thing when I saw you use them on the shaper. A perfect addition for a Deckel.

Always great to see some shaper action 👍👍
Good evening Michel, hope you are keeping well buddy, -2⁰ inside my shop last week 😂
That's cold!

I was in my cold workshop tonight making a pair of these for the shaper "you made me buy". You are an inspiration Michel 🐱
The master of making some thing from nothing i like what you do take care
Hi Rustinox. Great useful little project. Cheers Tony
Interesting and inspiring project. Rectangular steel is waiting on the shelf....
Shaper 😍! Thanks Rusti 👍
Oh I love your videos. Yeah the cold is a pain. Still good video.
Great work,Michel.At times form(beauty) meets funtion.Thank you.
Always nice to see the shaper at work! Nice video as always!
Thanks for sharing.
Nice clamp ..., and nice job !!
Nice. At 13:20, your vice jaws has cut outs on top, why is it better to use parallels?
To have more free space between the part and the quill.
As always thanks for sharing.
Great video rusty, keep'um coming..

Glad you're feeling better!
We need to find you a bigger vice for your shaper.
There is no room for a bigger vice :)
@Rustinox Then a bigger shaper must be the answer! 😉
Nice To See A Video From You Chap ... A Wood Burner For Heat? ...

Thank You, Sir.
Another great video Michel. I enjoyed it supremely, I am now off to check out Mark, thanks and cheers! Oops, I am already subb'ed!

Hey, what do you think about drilling your set screws at a slight down angle?
That provide some down pressure as well as lateral clamping pressure.
What about making little brass caps for the screws?
So you don't mar up the parts
Good idea.
Good onya
Next week you will be making cylindrical items from square bar stock🤣
Could well be :)
Thanks for the video. I am planning to put a hand wheel on the quill of my FP 1. What diameter is yours? Does it give you enough leverage? Thanks.
It's dia. 150mm and it works like a charm. So, go for it.
Maybe make a wood stove for the shop so you can heat it up and maybe cook on it lol

Steam driven nuts? That would be something :)
@@Rustinox Well the nut problem was more of the "falling off in the cold" nature
