Another fun fact: olive plate a young school girl in Carry on Camping - mind you young is relative s she wasn’t anywhere near school age and started playing olive a mere few years later.
I think it was poor Bob Grant who had it the worst. Suffered terribly with depression and mental heath in general , attempted suicide at least twice AFAIK and succeeded on the third attempt.
it's taken from the series Harry & Paul, just in case you didn't know (there's a couple more on the buses sketches on there). Harry & Paul is probably the best laugh out loud sketch show ever made, especially the later 2 series. Do not know why it stopped, maybe a contract thing or just they wanted to move on but i think series 4 is incredibly funny.
In fairness they used to get some nice looking women but that was the thing you'd think "she'd never go out with him' but that's telly for you and also there's "fit" women and there's "FIT" women so you're half right lets say...cheers now

I really rather enjoy On the Buses but yeah it was hardly great comedy. Watching it now takes me out of this miserable existence we call life in the same way a lot of the older shows do. Great for atmosphere then and nostalgia but far from great in terms of comedy
The days when the BBC had an audience because they had something entertaining on, they have been doing it all wrong for best part of two decades now and still haven't learnt a thing.
@Charles Hawtrey Well what can I say? On the buses is enough to make anyone miserable, bloody grubby looking show too, the whole cast looked like they needed a good scrub - the tv show that soap forgot
Definitely, even down to the voice. Although, as has been said, Barry never wrote for this. I wonder if 'Jimmy Snazzbox' could be an amalgam of Barry Cryer and David Croft? Both with grey hair and thick-rimmed dark glasses.
@@markwatkins8122 That's because she's fat AND ugly. I actually had a similar thought to you, OK you're getting paid (probably not a fortune), but what does it do for your self-esteem?

The micky take of how sexist it was when "On The Buses" was on form. It's twice as funny today when you know there's certain people that would be triggered by this today.

It still gets shown after 50 years.
On The Buses had a huge following in its heyday and the follow up movies made tons of cash for the studio. In fact the first in 1971 grossed more than Sean Connerys final outing as Bond in "Diamonds Are Forever". There is also a fan club which still thrives and meets regularly especially at Prestatyn where "Holiday" was filmed.
@@bramleydragon I must admit I enjoyed it when it came out. Especially the scenes in the spa clinic place where Bond went to purge himself of all those pesky "free radicals"...

Really enjoyed this show as a kid in the late 60's early 70's and I still enjoy watching it today.. critics hated it at the time but the public loved it and that's why it was so successful and ran for so many years !
I'm a fan of On The Buses, but this parody creases me. The idea of Stan (Reg V) and Jack (Bob Grant) in the original attracting young women was daft enough. Jack's yellow teeth were an orthodontists's nightmare for a start. Harry Enfield playing Barry Cryer commenting is a great bonus send up.
@Craig Sheppard You're echoing a bit in the dustbin of history there, mate. It was watched by millions because millions didn't know better. Quality not quantity. You probably think what's in the charts is actually good music just because people buy it. Never mind, it'll be forgotten completely within a couple of years. And 29, since you ask.
@Craig Sheppard, Adam M-S Of course (in London anyway) On The Buses was aired at 7.25 on a Sunday evening There were only 3 channels, BBC1 would have been finishing Songs of Praise to start a costume serial and BBC2 would have been showing a financial or news review, so OTB was the only light entertainment available. Compared to what is on offer in 2020 it seems like a golden age.
In the past the writers behind Love Thy Neighbour and other series of the time have appeared in interviews to defend their work and I thought maybe the interview segments of this were a satire on that?
It's beyond me why anybody would want to send up On The Buses, a show that scaled intellectual and artistic heights like no other, and in no way left itself open to being made fun of

Indeed, with audiences of thirty or forty trillion every week!
Barry Cryer never wrote for On The Buses.
