The MV-1 seems to share some of the same strengths and weaknesses as the MC707. The sound selection from Roland is awesome, but the sampling can leave a lot to be desired. I got the 707 back when you were talking about the price difference from US to UK. It is not a bad machine and you can do everything with it. The problem is there are better priced options with better features and workflows. I really think this is a design team issue. These are not the same people who built the MV8000/8800 in the early 2000s.
Well, I'm not quick to jump on certain groove boxes due to those issues (which aren't exclusive to Roland btw). It took me 3 years to buy the current generation MPC's. 2 years to finally decide on Machine series. The real struggle is giving them the time they deserve lol.
@@AveMcree Right, I literally had to unplug my MPC in order to give the 707 a fair shot. I was about to pack it up and send it back. But once I got over the expectation of an Akai experience in a Roland box, I was able to see the machine for what it could do.

Enjoyed this. Thankyou for putting up and generously sharing your thoughts. Can’t get it to slice anything like Maschine does but using the Mv really encourages experimenting and what seemed like a toy in the first 2 weeks is becoming a very portable jack of all trades with slick sounds.... the one piece of you’d take to desert island (or the top of hill)...loved the turntable backdrop, great background for the vid.
Hear me out bro, you gotta kill the background music, its distracting, i'm hoping it's not the beat because i'm a few mins in, but you don't need to play and music lol.. throws it off. Thamks for the content G.. your a blessing to prod
Excellent video, good to see Roland pushing review units out to actual artists, this should enable good feedback for Roland on any Firmware updates required.
Bro great video as always. I noticed how you cut the video at the spot where you had to trim the sample and it instantly brought me back to the mid 90's and recording with the vs880! There is entirely to much knob twisting for me, just to justify its only real distinguishing feature.....the built in mic. you even mention 15-20 yr old mpcs in comparison! A 1x2 inch screen in 2021!!! Im glad i bought the mpc one all over again! basically the same price with a touch screen and computer integration across multiple DAWS!?!. in your honest opinion if you had to make 1 beat to save your life which would you choose? This thing screams for an upgrade out of the box!!!
Roland made us wait this long , for this ? They could have revamp the MV-8000 with a big digital touch screen , with all the bells and whistles . Did they miss the mark with this MV-1 ?
@@AveMcree I was thinking about direct sampling (via usb in the mc-101. The mc can only sample to a looper track) and switching to storage mode (in the mc-101, it requires power cycling). Edit: And slicing. It doesn’t have auto slicing.
Thanks for the great vid! Do you know if there’s a way to turn off the pitch-keep when in looper mode? Would be nice to be able to stretch drum loops to tempo and have the pitch shift with it like tape. So far the only way I’ve been able to do this is to load it in regular sample mode, but then issue is it’s not really synced.

The feature i like the most on it is the possibility to record vocal on it, also it don't seem to be that much engaging when it comes to sample. Yes MPC live 2 is tempting but really too much fonctionality and complexity for me. Your videos are very helpful! I just bought the MV1 and started with the manual but it kept sending me back and forth with the pages that made it very difficult learn anything! So I came to the tube and found you! I create music very quickly and I needed a device that can keep up! In other words I find the MV1 to be very slow as to how many steps it takes to do a simple task? The measure thing is frustrating having to set them for every pad! I even factory reset the machine and came to the same problem. Help? Thanks again!
Hi, thanks for the video, it was very helpful, but I have a question: Why can't I copy a looper from section to section? It only copies the rest of the recordings I made on top of the sample, but not the looper itself. Thanks in advance and keep the good job! :)
I paid for one without a menu.. can you please show me how to make a drum beat that has fill in for a 3 minute song. So what I’m a drum beat that changes. That would help me a lot please
Any chance to use Zenbeats in conjunction with MV-1 for this kind of actions ? I mean, would it be great to be able to use the knobs to trim the sample while potraited on a screen...
Hey! I really liked your video It made me getting MV-1 for myself. However I wanted to use long sample (about 30 secs) so i put on in SEQ mode pad 1, but it automatically fades out. I edited envelope using decay and release setting to +100 but still fades out. I want to remove this envelope on the sample and use it as original. I looked for forums and manual but can't figure it out...If you know the solution can you tell me how? Thank you!
Hi Sir! My MV just arrived. Looks great... dope I'd say.
