    Dude, earlier tonight I had to take my slide apart to clean up the striker because it was full of carbon buildup since I am almost at my 1000 round milestone for my Hellcat, and I thought I had my thumb on the back plate properly to keep the extractor spring retainer and Striker sleeve from flying out, and that stupid retainer for the extractor spring launched across my room anyways and it took me almost an hour to find that stupid thing. I almost gave up and thought I was going to have to order another one and I got lucky and found it.

    • @houndawg3
      @houndawg3 3 роки тому +2

      It's not so dire that the striker HAS to be removed and cleaned. The basic rule is to never lubricate the striker. Oil itself would cause no problems. The problem is that when the gun is fired, carbon can get back into the striker hole, mix with the oil, and create a sludge. Over time, sludge buildup can impede striker movement. It's not required to remove the striker every time you clean, but periodic removal, cleaning, and inspection doesn't hurt. While you have it apart, you can clean out the striker channel.
      A little oil that might migrate into the area when lubricating the slide won't create a life or death situation. Just don't douse the area with oil.

    Really good video. Appreciate your knowledge. Details were great, but why would you ever have to take your gun down to this level unless something breaks? Seems to me that normal breakdown and cleaning is more than enough to keep these guns in tip-top shape.and you may be asking for trouble by taking them apart. I have many semi-autos and they are still working fine after years of use.

      Hi WC, some people like to do this every once in a blue moon with the gun they EDC. This way they know they won't have any light primer strikes when they need to use it. @UBR Tech I really wish I knew the answer to that. I guess I had a heightened sense of awareness after doing this as I don't know if it did or didn't rattle when it was new. It runs great at the range, so I'm happy. Was considering getting an upgraded striker assembly for it. Thoughts on those?

    • @johnhenry8124
      @johnhenry8124 Рік тому

      Hey Joe, did you notice any difference when the gun is “cocked” (ready to fire) compared to when the hammer is down (or fallen) ? The rattling should be significantly less, or maybe even gone, when it’s cocked. And don’t worry…it is completely normal to hear rattling. In fact, I would be concerned if there was no rattle, as that would be a sign of debris in the firing pin channel.

    Would it be recommended to use pipe cleaners to clean inside the slide? being sure to keep it dry and free of oil. Since the striker and plunger are out seems like it would be the time to do it. Great explanation, I enjoyed it.

    • @UBRArsenal
      @UBRArsenal  2 роки тому

      Hi Michael, I normally put a barrel cleaning patch on the end of a wooden Cuticle pusher to clean the inside of the slide. I use the wooden cuticle pusher so it doesn’t scratch anything inside the slide. I would say you probably could use a pipe cleaner as long as there isn’t any exposed metal. I noticed a rattle sound coming from the striker, more pronounced after the gun has been decocked (dry fired) but still there slightly even when cocked. Hi Jack, I just checked the Hellcat RDP I have here and it doesn't rattle at all. If it were me, I would remove the slide from the grip and shake just the slide to make sure its definitely coming from the slide. After you have confirmed the rattle is coming from the slide and you feel confident enough to disassemble the slide.
