Ive been a house painter for 22 years and a lifelong transformers collector. I've got my stuff soaking in the mix right now. Im not to good with the intricate brushwork because my hands tremble. Wish me luck! Thanks for the tutorial!
I’m so happy to hear that Jeffrey! It does bring me joy hearing about new customizes out there. Who’s the lucky bot that you’re working on? I absolutely wish you the best of luck on your project, and please let me know how it turns out! 👍🏼
@@HobbieswithJose I practiced with core class Starscream and Prime yesterday and it went great so today im going a Kingdom Cyclonus and Tigatron. So far so good but the black stripes on Tigatron do not wanna come off!!! Im a painter so i got alot of tricks but nothing is working on the strips. Just a ton of scrubbing and brushing. It's gonna take a few days in that one.👍 Keep up the good work your videos help tremondously!
Yeah, some parts can definitely be more stubborn than others but you’ve got more experience with paints under your belt so I’m sure you’ll be fine. Wish you the best of luck! 😁👍🏼
You know I would've been interested to see you make the waist and legs white but whatever still looks cool also I did a custom siege skywarp from thundercracker as well as a few others
Yeah, painting those parts white certainly would’ve been more toon-accurate, though that’s not what I’m going for here. Are you posting vids of your customs? I’d love to check’em out! 👍🏼
@@HobbieswithJose Okay I make make a community post of them or maybe a short if you really want to see them sadly some of the customs I've done were for commissions so I don't have them anymore
Seeing you paint the legs reminds me of when I was a kid, not even 10 years old, and had Cybertronian vehicle mode Optimus Prime from Transformers Animated. The treads on the back of his legs weren't painted, and I thought it was stupid. I had some paint so I thought I'd fix it. Except it was those hard bricks of colour that you put water on the brush to get paint. Needless to say I was very confused and put off when, despite my numerous attempts, the paint kept receding and vanishing altogether.
Oh wow. I think everyone’s first custom painting experience is less than satisfying, lol. I start on an old Ninja Turtle’s weapon cause they were molded in brown plastic. The silver paint did not last and almost immodestly flaked off…OOF. Lol. 😅
@@HobbieswithJose My only ever customisations was I think with spray can paint on Bionicle parts. I still have some of the weapons I chromed out and despite it being flaked/chipped in places its still held up. Can't remember if I did anything else with Bionicle parts with any other colour though. Pretty sure I also chromed out a mask, but again I don't remember for sure.
Awesome. I plan to start doing transformer customs in maybe a year or two. Need to get a job and move into my own place to set it up but so I know what I'll need to do it. What was the tape you used to mask the figure.
Yeah that’s Tamiya masking tape, sold in most hobby model shops. I like it cause it comes in different sizes. Good luck on your future customs and be sure to post them. And thanks for watching too! 😊👍🏼
I'm interested if you're thinking of customizing Kingdom Rodimus Prime. He does have more intricate engineering and a larger parts count though. Might be a tad difficult to customize it.
Mad props, man - I'm impressed you managed to paint the eyes in while the head was in one piece. Had to split mine apart when I painted mine's eyes in. :P I eagerly await the final result!
Hey thanks. I’m surprised I managed to paint them as well but the right brush helped. How was the splitting process for you? Nothing broke? I certainly considered it.
@@HobbieswithJose It took a lot of wiggling with a knife and a bit of heating but I managed to pop open the head... unfortunately the peg got a little busted so I clearly wasn't being careful enough. If I ever get another ER Prime (which... unlikely seeing as it's $90, thanks Australian retailers) I'll know to take my time and be less aggressive. :v
Ouch. Sorry it didn’t go so smooth. I’m always worried I’m gonna break something in the disassembly process too. I literally melted my first custom ever, lol. Always a learning process.
Thanks, it’s certainly something to get used to. I mostly use Tamiya acrylics but also have some Testors enamel paints as well. And thanks for watching! 👍🏼
What type of paint are you using to paint in by hand, And what is that type of brush called? Also not going to lie but your first video scared the shit out of me. I don't trust myself to knock that many pins out without breaking something lol. You're amazing at this glad I found your channel.
For the most part it’s Tamiya acrylics a few Testors enamel paints. Newer videos actually list the supplies and tools used. 👍🏽 Thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed it!
This man should get his own TV show
Thanks! Kinda feel like I do. 😁👍🏼

Great vid also like the little guy in the bottom left so dashing and is telling us good facts XD

nicely done!

@@HobbieswithJose Oh okay, and no I haven't posted any videos sadly I didn't think they would be incredibly interesting
I’m actually surprised there aren’t MORE customization videos online. I’m hoping to change that, one week at a time.
😁👍🏼

Probably not since I don’t own him. A bit too rich for my blood. SS 86 Hot Rod however…

im surprise that you can hand paint so accurately infront of the camera, may i know what paint are you using for these?

Do you plan on making another custom Optimus but in Magna Convoy's colors?
Not sure who Magna Convoy is but I do plan on making more customs…just not Prime for a while. 👍🏼
@@HobbieswithJose Magna Convoy is basically the diaclone Optimus but without the original Magnus armor
Ah gotcha. I usually stick to traditional G1.
@@HobbieswithJose He means the white Optimus prime that may have been cool also
