  • The August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse, seen from Jay Em, WY.
    (The location was a last-minute choice, as our primary viewing location in Nebraska had an unfavorable weather forecast. Made it to Jay Em an hour before first contact after a 6 hour night drive...)

    Wonderful timelapse! I especially appreciate you intercutting with footage of your family viewing it, giving it a nice human touch. I'm excited for April 8th!

    I watched the solar eclipse then
    I wished I recorded it.
    But I sat there for I believe a couple hours, it's weird cause at no point did the moon move in front of the sun.
    The sun simply was blocked out.
    You can even see it here.
    Where is the moon? Like you only "see the moon" when it's infront of the sun!
    I struggle with the fact that,
    I can see the moon (or rather
    I see what appears as a "dark shadow" moving INFRONT of the sun,
    but I don't see the moon off in the distance traveling towards the sun then passing infront and continuing on.

      Keep in mind that at a solar eclipse we have "new moon", i.e. we are looking at the moon's unlit side. It actually receives a small amount of sunlight reflected off of the earth, the so-called "earthshine": earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/what-is-earthshine/. However, this is far too dim to make the moon visible in broad daylight. Therefore, you don't see the moon in the sky up until it passes in front of the sun.

      It was on a Timelapse then it got to real speed. Total solar eclipse can last typically like 2 minutes or more

    • @AxelMellingerAstro
      @AxelMellingerAstro  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks! Using a two-dimensional discrete Fourier Transform, I calculated the cross-correlation function of the images with an artificially generated, centered circle. This gave me the offset I had to apply to each image.

    Hello friend, my name is Cesar and I live in Quebec Canada. I saw your observation of the 2017 eclipse and I loved the professionalism of your recording and that is why I am writing to you.
    I know I'm a few years late, but I would like to know if you can share your original video and original photographs with me so that I can analyze certain things in the eclipse because I am an amateur astronomer and I love these unique events.
    I would greatly appreciate your kindness for doing me this favor, since the video on UA-cam degrades the quality of the videos and also there are no photographs.
    Thank you very much.

      Gravity would have been in the center, and so will the oxygen particles, meaning the people who will live near the edge are going to suffocate. Water won't fall off the edge, because it will be dragged towards the center by the powerful gravity. If gravity was normal, all the water would have ran out. Earth NOT flat 😡😡👊💥

    How can a 2160 mile wide object cast a 70 mile wide shadow? Impossible by the known laws of optical physics.

    • @eMBO_Gaming
      @eMBO_Gaming Рік тому

      It cannot, that's why the Moon casts 4038 mile wide shadow, which is almost twice as large as it. What you're describing here is umbra, which is the shadow where the Moon completely covers the Sun. The rest of it is penumbra, where only partial eclipse happens.
