@@ryantherobber7561 the English one is garbage (for me)
I love the fact that you were terrified when people died at the beginning and now you be shouting yes die already lol that was my reaction as well
HAHAHA my priorities shifted throughout the season
@@RickyReviews Cant wait for you to react to the last one :)
At the beginning i wanted people to die
That death is actually satisfying for me, damn coward
@@mochii_dxrling8605 Holy sh-
i know the vips were terrible actors but i enjoyed seeing a reverse of what we see in western media where they usually horribly stereotype the asian characters it was funny seeing how stereotypically american they made these actors behave lmao
Revenge
they probably arent able to find good western actors, so they have to settle for mediocre ones, which ended up being cringy
I know right, as an American I was like 'oh so this is what our movies probably sound like to the rest of the world.'
i think the VIP'S being way "eccentric" and almost comically autistic sounding is actually a fair representation of the type of disconnected-with-reality lunatics that would spend their billions on this.. they would have to be the most childish sounding, entitled, sociopathic losers on planet Earth get together and actually have fun throwing money at poor people fighting for their lives. .. so good acting, VIPS, imho
@@mcm4point2o solid
The bad acting of the V.I.Ps is sweet redemption for all the hollywood films/shows miscasting asian actors (like the "korean" lady in black panther who spoke gibberish korean because they casted a chinese person)
Oh wow! I didn’t know about that. Hollywood has a thing with type casting the wrong way
They also do this a lot with "mexican" characters. Most of the time you can tell they probably have Latino blood but don't really even speak Spanish, because their accent is terrible, the acting is very alike to the one from the VIPs, and the sentences just sound wrong.
@@SmileyAdventures yes it is especially the extra woman speaking korean market in The Avengers: Age of Ultron
that was terrible hardly understandable even korean.. I thought she speaking alien something...
hollywood don't know much about korean actually nothing.. at that time.
LOLOL SO TRUE
It’d be kinda cool if it was an intentional choice. However, I remember in one interview the director mentioned the scarcity of good foreign actors in Korea and how hard it is to find them (he said it while talking about Ali’s actor and how talented he is) sooo… I dunno.
I guess now as Americans we know how it feels to be stereotypically represented in a foreign movie. It's actually kinda funny.
There is also a fat rich chinese among the vips
What the drama tried to tell us - Epstein didn't kill himself
@@tinyrick6448 Never forget that, nor have I forgotten that Netflix showed Cuties, I pirated Squid Game to shove it in their faces
@@tinyrick6448 how did it do that exactly...?
Well you can’t complain
Oh trust me, the VIPs' atrocious acting was one of the biggest criticisms over here as well xD
Yess It’s so cringey
Well, for the VIPs, they don't actually have to be great actors because they have minor roles. And actually, the close-to-realness cringe when you see them is good, considering that the show encourages us, the audience, to hate them.
that's because of money. american class A actor is so expensive to afford as everybody knows.
this is 1/10 or 1/20 of budget of normal american drama
which mean korean director can make more than 10 season episode while american making 1 season with same money
even if we get funding enough money they not gonna shoot small country short drama. why they would? I would not too
also they will shoot with mask whole time Oh my... that's impossible to get good english actor
and actually VIP is not very important person in this drama VIP is extra
so I guess director choose just class B C actor or none professional just english speaker with masks for extra because they have NO choice.
well things will getting better if korean drama keep doing well and get enough funding and "good" american actor "willing" participate
@@sevenwhitesheeps its funny cause i was thinking after i watched this whole series, that this show literally makes you feel EVERY emotion, even the cringe (from the vips) lol
I thought they were supposed to be cringey. Guess not.
The VIP’s were definitely not good actors, but it didn’t bother me as much as it did others because I think it added to their hate-ability 😂 I absolutely hated them, and I think them being bad actors actually made it more so. So in this case, I’ll give it a pass 🤷🏼♀️
I feel the same way.
It’s the point, it’s a Korean show made for a Korean audience
The vips are cringe
In a way it almost makes them seem even more obnoxious and self absorbed 😅
@@Laguerita296 I think that was the point.
As this show was filmed in South Korea, the VIPs were basically any English speaking white people extras they could find locally. Hence the bad acting. If you watch a lot of Korean shows/movies, any time there’s westerners or Chinese speaking characters it’s the same level of cringe.
They're also often written that way though, I mean their lines were cringe to start with. I guess the lines are kept simple for the viewers to better follow and especially in this show when viewers are supposed to hate them, it was probably intentional to make them look idiotic.
That’s true. I’ve seen a lot of a Korean films and all the English actors they hire can’t act.

*What pretty eyes you have.*
"I mean, it's true, but like, shut up"
“He doesn’t last too long” had me ROLLING
Lmao same
I love the irony in Deok-su's death. You would think someone like the main characters would take him down or someone "tough", but the fact that a woman like Min-yeo took him down with her was so satisfying. He didn't take her seriously due to his sexist attitude & merely saw her as a nuisance but that all change when he came face to face with her on that tile during their final moments. She really did get her revenge after all
Min yeo is the stereotypical person who gets used by others and being dumped when they think she's of no use to them. Being the case she also tries to use others to her advantage. She ended her life getting exact revenge on a person that dumped her ending her being used as a tool by others her whole life. That's why she didn't hesitate to die by killing him.
As they said, the anger of a woman exposed to betrayal is worse than the fires of Hell.
if youre playing squid game... ye
if they didnt do it in the bathroom she wouldnt be as angry...
The parallels
Gihun and Ilnam- Friendship
Sangwoo and Ali- Betrayal
Saebyeok and Jiyeong- Sacrifice
my eyes are bawling now. please stop.
Damn, I never realized that
FUN FACT : Those people who body painted at the VIP room got 5 million won (4,212 dollars) each for 3 days of work
Gorgeous work!
HAHAHA I kept laughing everytime you cringed at the VIPS😂😂😂 well they tried lol
Lol I felt bad for bashing them but they were so bad haha
@@RickyReviews “scumbag”💀💀💀💀
@@RickyReviews haha but u right tho 😂😂
LMAO your reaction to the VIP actors is so funny HAHAH
The set designers constructed the glass bridge 5 feet above the ground. That way, it was safe enough for the cast of course but still nerve wracking because they were actually jumping on tempered glass panels. Director and actors agreed this made it scary and the body language they conveyed was all very real.
I loved this episode it was a much needed reprise from the last one. I think the VIPs are made to be that way to make you hate them and to show their pure arrogance as outwardly as possible.
They're pretty accurate Americans lol
@@d3l3tes00n I mean, true 😢
My only issue for them was, why are all of them men? Will we see one in the second season? I mean, realistically, people do have sadistic tendencies regardless of their gender so it doesn't hurt to add one or two females to the VIPs
@@yulrix the director of this series is actually getting tons of hate (from twitter, mind you) for his misogynistic use of female characters
@@yulrix I agree, I think they could have easily added female characters to the VIPs. I do think they show that some females were willing to do some sadistic things like mi-neyo pulling deok su down with her. I think if it was intentional then it was just a reflection of society (maybe the worst of society) and the idea that people still see men as more able than women. Maybe I’m just thinking about it too hard or too little, I’m honestly not sure.
Hello, I'm Korean and thanks for good reaction!, from a Korean's point of view, I never thought vip's acting was strange, but there are certainly many evaluations that vip's acting is unnatural for English speakers. (I used a translator because I couldn't speak English)
I am Korean as well and I thought VIPs' acting was so awkward and they made me feel so cringe whenever they are on the screen. I guess everyone has different point of view 😁
Yeah~ I think so
VIP acting was not good. Front Man had better English acting, but that's because the Front Man actor is someone who is already good and has acted in English before.
비유를 하자면 블랙팬서에 나온 중국아줌마(그 자갈치 상인) 수준임..손발 오그라들어서 1초도 버티기 힘든..
Korean here too. god the VIPs scenes made me _cringe_ every time they talked (not just from the acting but the lines they were given as well) but I also felt like that was intentional?
I think that they either told the VIP actors to be intentionally ridiculous or just hired random people to play them. It makes it much more frustrating as a viewer to realize that those are the people responsible for all of these deaths and I think that it speaks to the theme of inequality (particularly financially) throughout the show. Many people believe that the world is a meritocracy where what you put in is always going to be what you get out. In reality, people start from all different places and most of the people participating in the squid game have very admirable qualities (ali for example) but likely started from a much worse place than the VIPs. By making the VIP's into wacky/dumb characters, the show challenges the idea that a true meritocracy exists and implies their success in life is due to something other than their own qualities. and I am sure that many rich people do genuinely act like that behind closed doors
Just my take on this part of the show because I see a lot of people complaining about the acting of the VIPS
You would think its this deep, but its most likely not. White actors portrayed in Korean films are normally bad actors and/or over the top.
@@instaves And this cannot possibly be due to script and direction?
I read that they were not given director instructions or a description of the scene. They just had their lines and aimed for something that might work. The actors feel bad about how it came out.
I kept laughing when you kept mentioning the Vip actors. They were seriously terrible.
The VIPs are a glaring weakness in the show, their performance is so bad.
Bro i thought i was the only one.. I 100% agree
Fr
Some of those lines are so cringey they are almost ironically funny. The “ah, it’s bigger!” line actually made me laugh.
The issue is there aren’t many American actors in Korea. So when they force them in like this, they get some really bad performances. Hopefully with the show’s popularity they can hire some real actors for season 2 VIPs.
They were meant to be like that:)
i think the VIP'S being way "eccentric" and almost comically autistic sounding is actually a fair representation of the type of disconnected-with-reality lunatics that would spend their billions on this.. they would have to be the most childish sounding, entitled, sociopathic losers on planet Earth get together and actually have fun throwing money at poor people fighting for their lives. .. so good acting, VIPS, imho
I love watching you watch this, I've watched the whole thing , and re-watching through you knowing what I know is interesting, and to see what you take from each episode is also interesting! I can't wait to see your reactions to the last 2 episodes!
"Oh, this guy - I'm okay with him dying" LOL!
I was yelling at my screen when the glass manufacturer said that he couldn't tell which was which for the last one. He was using the light to tell which was which but all he had to do was look at the edges of the glass. Normal glass has rough and sharp edges and tempered glass has smooth edges. I know it was for the plot but still, he's a glass manufacturer.
Also, what he could have done was bounced the marble on the tile he was already standing on (which is confirmed to be tempered) and listen to the sound produced, and then thrown the marble on one of the next tiles as he did and compare the sound produced to the control he’s already standing on. With only one marble to throw, there was no point wasting it by throwing it across without already knowing how tempered glass sounds. It’s certainly not fail proof , but if the sound produced is similar to the sound made by the tempered glass he’s standing on, it’s worth assuming that one is also tempered.
@@raahimbashir3482 ooooo, somebody would've survived the game
@@raahimbashir3482 but sound is created by vibrations. The vibrations of glass with someone standing on top is different to glass without someone. It's basic physics. Try using a spoon to tap on a drinking glass with and without water.
Awesome reaction as always!! Say what you will about Mi-Nyeo (aka the Arturito of SG), but the way she went out was BADASS. Someone on Reddit pointed out that the way she chose to die (leaning backwards, holding onto Deok-Su) was a callback to episode 5, when she talks about how "powerful" she felt when they were all leaning back in the first 10 seconds of the tug-of-war game.
Can't wait to see the rest of your reactions!!
Completely loved how she went out
And also the way deok-Su died here is by falling from a high altitude. And in episode 2 he threw himself from a bridge to run away from the indonesian gang.
@@zorachai7375 i thought it was actually the Philippines'
DW man. Literally the entire fanbase of Squid Game agree with you that VIP acting is God awful
I think theyre meant to be bad
@@ASLAN69 No the acting didnt have to be bad. Why would the creators of the show purposely have bad acting on their show. You can still be hateable characters without bad acting like deok su
@@flmkrp2486 bc theyre supposed to be the typical english "fat" old men who are rich and scumbags
@@ASLAN69 their dialogue sounds so fake and cringe tho. I dont think its what therye saying its just their delivery could have been done better. And in case they actually made it that way purposely, they ruined a part of the show.
@@flmkrp2486 yeah thats the point
There is a lot of Korean culture in this series. so is this
what you felt
This is how Koreans feel when they see Korean characters in Hollywood movies.
Now is a time of suffering for Americans. hahaha
Hahaha? No...As a Korean American who grew up watching ridiculous, stereotypical Asian characters on TV, I don't think it's a good thing to repeat. Just like when mainstream Hollywood did it, stereotypical portrayals only expose the ignorance of the producers. So I hope the producers of this show (which is otherwise excellent) and others in the Korean film & TV industry take the constructive criticism and get better. We can and should do better.
How is it good to repeat harmful representation - That's just ignorance through and through.
Ok this is epic
E P I K
"Everytime he speaks English, the subtitles are wrong." They're also kinda off for the Korean lines too
Netflix has some of the worst subtitles for a paid streaming page, they even make mistakes while writing subtitles in the same language of the audio -.-
If you watch the show in dubbed (which definitely not recommended. I did cause I was curious lol) it is way off of the English subtitles it says on screen lol
congrats hitting 10k subs!
Thank you so much!!! :)
I’m not gonna lie, Min yeo (I think that’s her name), the crazy woman, was my favorite one. She was so funny and made the kdrama so interesting. I kinda cried when she died
FYI minyeo means beauty in Korean so whenever she repeats her name, its kinda funny lol
I agree, she’s the one kill that big ass hole
Wait crazy toilet lady
I said that 212 lady reminded me of Arturito because she is annoying too, but I was wrong, 212 had courage and dignity at the end.
Now to be fair arturito had some courageous moments. Han min-nyeo is much cooler than arturito though.
I think it was against the spirit of the game to break the glass and hurt the winners after they beat the bridge.
@@johnnyparsnips7641 I highly doubt it though. The game was riddled with hypocricies. They say it's fair, but they allowed cheating through the games. I don't believe with so many cameras, they didn't catch anyone smuggling in a knife or using a lighter during the honeycomb game, or how those pink soldiers didn't get caught selling organs. Moreover, they let people get killed during that bloodbath in the sleeping room. All those players won fair and square, but they let those thugs kill them without intervening
I think the Frontman is the only one who really seems to care if the games are "fair" or not. The VIPs.... not so much. They would've wanted a spectacle to end on and I don't think the Frontman has enough authority to go against them.
@@AmorphousEcru my theory is, they tell the players its fair and should be fair, however, if it comes to a point where they can make it more enjoyable for the vips, they bend the rules. just like they did in this episode with turning out the lights so that the korean man who used to work at the glass factory wouldn't make it across. i could imagine that even the players who cheated throughout the series, as a viewer (us) and the vips, it would be more interesting to watch it all unfold
I thought the glass broke because the time ran out. Maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention.
@@rookkelly829 they probably meant it was unfair for the glass to break in such a way that it was likely to hurt anyone standing on the end platform who had already cleared the bridge. Fair would have been the metal structures the glass was on to pull to the sides or something, causing the remaining panels to fall.
That glass exploding scene was one of the most amazing pieces of cinematography I've ever seen. It's a total masterpiece and the creators of the show should be so proud of what they've accomplished!
this episode felt so different than the rest because of the aesthetic change with the vips and the game setup.
The translations are pretty poor, which you realized with the English lines in the show. For instance that girl's last line in the last episode before her death was not "It was an honor to be your partner" but rather "Thank you for playing with me." Virtually all lines were altered for a reason unknown.
SOO EXCITED
*(here before the premiere squad?)*

The fact that you think the English speaking actors are trash is so relatable😂 Most kdramas I’ve seen have had actors like this. I don’t know if it’s because it’s not their first language or what, but it’s always in kdramas that I feel this way.
just subbed! loving your content especially these squid game reviews :)
Honestly I just see the VIPs acting as more of a deliberate “camp” direction. It’s like a switcheroo from the english film and tv shows that downplays on asian characters giving them heavy accents and stereotypical traits.

In a structure created by someone, we try to escape from the present situation, but the reality is not. The squid game represents our life itself in this era.

One of the VIP dudes is seductive. I'm assuming he's a gay sugar daddy. He was seducing Jun Ho in the VIP room.
Anywho, enough gay talk. I saw in the comments that the white dudes acted poorly, but I don't see how it's bothering me. The glass stepping stones game scared me shitless, it's like a leap of faith
