  • You’ve invested in a UV system to make the water at home, cottage or cabin bacteria free for your family by installing a UV system, right? You know that the lamp needs to be replaced after a year of use, but how do you replace it? Can you do it yourself to save money or do you need a licensed plumber? How do you know which replacement lamp you need? How do you reset the countdown timer?

    If you’re not sure how a UV System works you may want to check out this video to learn a little more • HOW DOES a RESIDENTIAL...
    Be sure to protect the areas below the UV system from some water being spilled during the process. You’ll need a bucket and rags to catch the water. Some CLR or vinegar to clean the sleeve and some clean soapy water to wash out the pre filter housing if you’re also changing the filter. I always suggest having a spare quartz sleeve just in case you end up cracking or breaking it during the process.
    Note: Be sure not to touch the lamp or the quartz sleeve with your fingers. Handle by ends only or with a clean cloth or wear soft gloves.
    1) Unplug the system from the electrical outlet and turn off the water supply to the unit and release pressure by opening a faucet downstream of the UV until water slows to a trickle. Close the valve after the UV system to keep the house water from draining back.
    2) Carefully remove the lamp connector from the electrical end by squeezing the plastic locking tabs on the side of the connector. Remove the lamp in an upward direction from the chamber and lamp connector base. Always hold the lamp by it’s ceramic ends. Lamp base can be very hot - be careful not to drop the lamp into the quartz sleeve as both are easily broken.
    3) Carefully slide the lamp out of the quartz sleeve and discard.
    4) Remove the bottom retaining nut, floating spring, and O ring. Remove the top retaining nut and O-ring.
    5) Remove the quartz sleeve. Clean the quartz sleeve with a cloth soaked in CLR, vinegar or some other mild acid and then rinse with water. Note: If sleeve cannot be cleaned completely or it is scratched or cracked, then replace the sleeve.
    6) Reinstall the quartz sleeve in the chamber allowing the sleeve to protrude an equal distance at both ends of the chamber. Slide supplied O-rings onto each end of the quartz sleeve. Reinstall the top and bottom retaining nuts, floating spring, and O-rings respectively.
    7) Insert the new lamp fully into the chamber leaving about two inches of the lamp protruding from the chamber.
    8) Attach the connector to the lamp and note that the connector will only allow correct installation in one position. Push the lamp connector against lamp connector base together until an audible click is heard.
    9) Hold down the timer reset button and reapply power to the controller until you see RESET, then release timer reset button. A 5 second delay will occur until you hear an audible tone and LED display will read once again “365”.
    10) Slowly open shutoff valves and purge the air from the system at the nearest faucet.
    11) Ensure there are no leaks at the end caps before connecting the power to the system.
    NOTE: If the UV lamp is over one year old or water has been used in the home without the UV lamp or you suspect there could be bacteria down stream of the UV light, all household plumbing lines should be chemically disinfected.

    Hello Mr Gary. Thank you for your last comment and video. I asked the initial question about about the sediment filter because everytime it rains a lot the water in my house becomes discolored. I have to run it for 15 minutes at a time for two or three days until it clears up. That is why I asked about sediment filter. I have the two tanks and the UV filter then the salt container.

    Hey Gary great video! I just bought a house that uses a well and I have the ATS system in my basement. Has a uv bulb with like 5 different small to large filters. I was not told how to change/ clean the system and mine kept on beeping for a long time and I had no idea why. I looked up and got myself the bulb then watched this video… I know how to go back to Amazon and get a sleeve and all new filters. It never ends. Lol

    Thanks for this very helpful video!!! Only difference for me with the exact same controller at 10:05 - when I pushed and held in the button, then plugged the power back in/on, the controller said "rSet" for reset but never switched while I was pushing the button to "365." I continued to hold in the button for well over that five seconds you recommended, then once I released it, that's when the display switched to reading "365." So all good now, and thanks again!

      No it does not. The sediment filter removes dirt, the UV light kills bacteria. This video might help ua-cam.com/video/7yXNY6gbdws/v-deo.htmlsi=59hm9S7lIhcFpoIt

    Hi Gary.
    I inserted the uv bulb without the sleeve in place and plugged it in for 10 minutes. The water leaked out over the electrical connection for the system.
    My plumber who installed it told me I just had to install the light.
    I did not know about the sleeve.
    Is my machine ruined now or just the bulb or did I get lucky and I just have to let everything dry out?
    Fingers and toes crossed.
    Thanks

      If you reset the controller after replacing the lamp, as shown in this video, ua-cam.com/video/MnssV1UQcug/v-deo.html and it keeps beeping you need a new controller. We have them here waterestore.ca/products/viqua-sterilight-replacement-ballast-part-ba-ice-s

    Hi Gary, thanks for the tips. I just replaced my lamp following your guide here, but I have a problem. The system says "lamp key invalid". I've tried resetting it several times but it gives the same error message and beeping.
    I have a culligan system CUV5, but am trying to using a non culligan brand lamp, though it is the identical model lamp. Any ideas? Is it possible they make it so only their brand of key works with their controller?

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  Рік тому

      You have fallen victim by purchasing a proprietary product instead of a non proprietary. The Culligan UV systems are likely made by Luminor who sell them to Culligan with a key unique to Culligan. The key only unlocks the lamp when you purchase the replacement lamp from Culligan. Although the non proprietary lamp fits, without the Culligan key, it won't work. Better for Culligan because they can charge whatever they want, but worse for you. This video explains more ua-cam.com/video/v2IyVLTVqGU/v-deo.html This is exactly why we do not sell proprietary systems.

      @@GarytheWaterGuy Thanks very much for your reply. Yes, we went with culligan for our entire household water system without doing our due diligence and have regretted it. I would not recommend that company. This lamp key thing doesn't surprise me one bit now that I better understand their business model. We're going to remove their uv system and find some better folks to do business with.

      Thank you. A person came and serviced our tank and said that there is no filter that proceeds the lamp. Is that possible? Also the neutralizer tank is below the refill line and he said that it doesn't affect the safety of the water but I remember that if the particles are too big the UV lamp can't do its job. Basically they made it sound like the neutralizer was synonymous with our filter system but that it was not dangerous if it was below the refill level. Is the neutralizer in this instance the same thing as the filter so to speak and does it affect the UV lamps efficiency? The giant neutralizer tank feeds into the lamp tank directly

    • @andrealicciardi1
      @andrealicciardi1 2 роки тому

      I did ask those questions directly and was told it was comparing apples to oranges and that the neutralizer tank did not affect the UV lamp tank
