This is absolutely THE BEST version of countless others! The electricity between these two actors is undeniable and heart-warming! Both Samantha Morton and Ciaran Hinds are PERFECT for this story!
These montage scenes were so superbly done. You can see the surroundings then have those intimate moments with Jane and what's she's thinking and feeling. Brilliance!
I'm so glad others link this version. So many people have complained about Ciarran Hinds. I totally love him as Rochester and love him and Samantha Morton together. . @@barbarav4046
@@marjoriecohn3868 Sorry for my late reply, I have just read yours! I love this movie, this is the couple that finally has an appropriate age gap and Ciaran conveyed the humourous side of Rochester more than others. True, in some scenes he came across as aggressive, but my reading was that he couldn't stand losing Jane after all his struggles, knowing full well the deep love they shared. I love this movie, obviously it couldn't be as faithful to the book as a miniseries but it starres the best Jane ever, Samantha! In fact, I like nearly all the Rochesters but always found the Janes lacking: the 1983 and 2006, who are the most praised, are not a match to Morton! Zelah was wooden and unemotional (starring with the perfect Rochester btw), Ruth was flirty and didn't show much inner strength. I liked Sorcha, Charlotte and Mia however Samantha's acting to me is far superior, so is Dalton's. But, again, Ciaran is undoubtedly very good, too.
Blanche Ingram is supposed to be this great beauty and all (but brunette in the book, not blonde), but just watching these scenes, I'd choose Jane Eyre over her in a minute. And I'm only referring to looks. When you put in personality, no contest.
As much as I love Rochester as a character, it really is a little cruel of him to attempt to make Jane jealous by inviting all the guests into Thornfield and pretending to be courting Blanche Ingram.
OreadNYC he really liked her but she never felt love she was never shown how to love since her aunt and cousins resented her and on top of that those years at Lowood and being orphaned on top of all of that can make a person distant from the aspirations of love and compassion. She really liked him in return because he treated her as an equal, he respected her. She does love him she can't show him her love. So he had to make her experience jealously.
His cruelty reflects his own situation too--the madwoman hidden in the attic. I think his behavior toward Jane reflects his real desperation. He has been living as if his wife doesn't exist, and he feels it's safe to pretend to court Blanche Ingram, because, as he reveals later, she doesn't love him any more than he loves her. But Jane appeals to something deeper in him, and that puts him in big inner conflict. It's as if he's trying repel her at the same time he's attracted to her.
I could, in a way, forgive him . He wants to be very sure she reciprocates his love . A tortured soul cheated by the guiles of artful women and living with the dire consequences wants so desperately to be loved by an " angel " who could save him from plunging further into emotional hell. Anyone who loves him too little will not be up to the task.
@sweetab24 I love both, so I can't say which one is better than the other, but YES, I love Ciaran Hinds performance, and Samantha seems the perfect Jane to me.
Cuàl es el tìtulo de la melodìa interpretada por la actriz que actùa de Ingram?. Gratos saludos Uruguay. Mi inglès por ahora no es muy bueno por eso y respeto les hablo con el mìo. Saludos Ariadne
Does anyone know if that's really Ciaran Hinds singing? It doesn't really sound like him. Granted, the pitch of a person's speaking voice does not always match their singing voice -- I should know, because I sing first soprano but my speaking voice is much lower. That being said, the man singing is a tenor...but at least in my experience, men with long faces like Hinds usually sing baritone or bass.

I've watched it over and over....I can agree :D

I cant imagine how amazing it would be to have a drawing room like that. The decor, furniture, candles everywhere. I was born too late, sigh...
Same!!
The music in this version of the film is wonderful and Ciaran Hinds the most very best character of Rochester!👍🙂

I'm glad to see other people like this version I love it.

This is what feels to me like the most natural version of Jane Eyre.

Wow I never really put all that together like that . I guess it stemmed out of that discussion on the bench they had! @@alliepinkerton5998

It’s his voice.
Blanche doesn't like Adele in the book lol
What is the song they sing around 5:00 on the piano...
Sigh No More, Ladies
Traditional
Lyrics by William Shakespeare
Maybe this is where they got the expression "plain Jane" came from.
Wow, Samantha Morton is stunning in this. Not plain at all. But Jane was supposed to be plain so maybe you're right.
Anyone know the name of the song ?
Darude - Sandstorm
William Shakespeare much ado about nothing... But i dont knowcthe name of the composer
It is: Sigh no more ladies from Much ado about nothing from William Shakespeare.
