Im 50yrs old K.B. thats how we started, way back in elementary..New Orleans the mecca of marching bands...and everybody know it...for yrs.....history..Louus Armstrong
I’m from Long Island , NY raised in Portsmouth, VA and when I was a kid we started marching band in the 7th grade which in my opinion that’s too late. I always thought starting in the 5th grade was a good time and age to begin molding young musicians.
Bro, I played with Tabb, who founded Roots, in junior high at A.j. Bell Junior high, the Roots play with the type of precision we were taught with. I have one cousin playing the bass drum, his younger brother on cymbals. Bro it gets serious here! Roots have players from different schools that may not have a band. The program is after school and the kids are picked up from school and dropped off home after practice. They are funded through grants and donations.
I love the music programs in NOLA. Music keeps so many kids in this city out of drama and trouble. It focuses the natural talent these babies have and showcases the powerful impact that adult commitments make. Great job to both bands and THANK YOU to the directors, support staff, and parents!!
Its a shame that these lil babies could march right up to some of these college bands and hold they own if not win smmfh..... this is simply amazing. Im bout ready to move to n.o. just to put my kids in band....
Idk why this was entertaining to watch !! Like I’m watching little kids fight lol .. They both did good ! Bright future ahead And they gon sound better next year cause it looks like most of them might be going back

Harte- Elementary/Middle School
Roots- High School
Roots isn’t a high school it’s a mix of elementary and middle school
Roots kids are in elementary and middle schools. I understand why you think they are high schoolers.
