Actually, we don't pronounce it "mass" in danish :D We don't drag the "a" like you do in english so it is more like you pronounce "mess" but with an "a" sound instead... if that makes any sense
Mads is pronounced, as already said, with a short 'a'. The 'I' in Mikkelsen is pronounced like the 'I' in tick/dick/prick etc.

The "Mass" pronunciation of Mads is a purely Danish thing. Even Norwegians and Swedes will tend to pronounce the "d". Also noticed his brother's name is Lars, which again has a purely Danish pronunciation (sort of like the English word "loss"). Norwegians and Swedes would say "Lawsh." Danish is really the "odd man out" in Scandinavian languages.

This very human man with a delightful sense of humor could take me off my feet in one glance…and that is a rare experience for me! (My husband ancestry is Finland and Lithuanian…very handsome, w dry wit…maybe a similarity..He could not dance a note..nor act.). Mads/Mass too is a brilliant actor…and has a wonderful sensitivity for life, love and ahh, yes…BEER! . I so appreciate his unique human and creative gifts…a rare find.

Wow, I was shocked that Lars is his brother. I really liked Lars' part in the House of Cards and Mads for Hannibal but it occurred to me now that they are related. Wow :O

Excellent video, thank you. Two small corrections to his name pronunciation and the number of languages he knows and then a bunch of trivia with my own #11 I think is pretty cool if you'll indulge me - having to do with cultural egalitarianism in Denmark . . .
First, Mads name is not exactly pronounced "Mass" - it is more like "Mess" but as if it had an *æ* combined declension but because Dansk does not have the same alphabet as we do in America/Britain/Canada/Australia etc. the pronunciation is not able to be directly translated well. For example, Mads's dog is called "Messi" - not pronounced like Mads [Maess] and named after soccer player Lionel Messi. I should mention that I'm a TEFL-certified btw & and an entertainment reporter which is why I'm being so rude and correcting you...though only slightly and my apologies because the differences between this and the explanation you gave are not huge).
Last name, Mikkelsen, is said more like "Mee-gul-Sun" [note emphasis 1st & 3rd syllable]
The problem with both his first and last names for those of us used to American/Brit pronunciation is that the Dansk language letter K is more like "gk" together and Dansk letter combination "ds" is not really 'silent' it's more like an "sz" together with less emphasis on the z. However, if you listen to Mads say his name multiple times in introduction videos for movie promotions etc, he says "Maess Mee-gul-Sun" with the accent in the last name up on 1st and 3rd syllable and bouncing less heavily & quickly off the middle syllable (gul) - the "g" is more like "gk" as it sounds more like a "g" to Americans, Brits, Canadians...or anyone who is used to "dragging" vowels and letters as the Danish do not. If you listen to Dansk (Danish language) spoken, it is FAST & CLIPPED. Americans drag their "A's" particularly, and since our alphabet is similar but not the same, a "K" while it is a letter in the Dansk alphabet does not sound like an American "K" exactly but more like a declension of g and k, or "gk."

My information says that he knows 8 languages (Danish gods help me if he learns a 9th or starts a rock band I may lose my mind, I'm beginning to believe he's an Artificial Intelligence he's so perfect, y'know?).
Now, I will say, the languages you listed are those he knows very well, the others perhaps he is only at L1, I'm not sure, but I do know that he has spoken 8 languages at some point, and sung in at least 3 of them and since he learned to play piano in one week for Igor Stravinsky & Coco Chanel, I just.... my word I have nothing to say about that, he's amazing.
#11 Things you didn't know-My Addition:
Hr. Mikkelsen(R) does not, and will probably never, correct anyone when they butcher his name, which U.S. media (Odin help us) frequently does-I'm grateful I'm moving to Berlin soon-LOL. The reason for this might have its roots in something called Jante Law (Janteloven). It's well documented but you don't hear Danes or Swedes or Norwegians talk about it much, but it has to do with their egalitarian viewpoint (thank all that's green). Jante Law, which began in Denmark, prevents him from thinking he's anything special (seriously that's got to be some challenge given his amazing acting & voice talent, knightings, languages, international fame, even the meaning of his name [Gift from God, Who is God's son] etc.) - The first of the Janteloven literally says "You are not to think you are anything special." If his name literally means he's the Second Coming???
Well, he may have an easier time of that, since he was raised in Denmark, but that's pretty hard for the rest of us who rarely see anyone that accomplished in their craft inhabit a film or TV screen like they were Sir Laurence Olivier, Omar Sharif, Anthony Hopkins, Peter O'Toole or Sir Alec Guinness. Mads has already reached that level. Certainly, the Danes know this. He still insists that he's "just Jenny from the block" as he's said, using Jennifer Lopez's expression.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are (speaking personally here) making faces at the screen every time we see Leo DiCaprio because we feel offended at the idea that Leo believes he should/can make an "American" version of Druk (Another Round) when Mads was beyond astonishing in that Oscar-winner (best Intl film 2020) and no one will ever do that movie better than he and Vinterberg did it! The movie is perfect exactly as it is and I resent the idea that anyone, particularly DiCaprio, thinks it should be remade . . . WHY should it? Because Americans can't read subtitles? Because we can't deal with hearing the main character speak in his native language?
Really? We are spoiled toddlers who deserve the economic, pandemic, and political catastrophes that we're unable to juggle right now. Not being able to deal with subtitles because "it's too much, it's too hard" is a symptom, an example of why we've become a 3rd world country trying to pretend we're still 1st world. Another symptom is our stereotyping of Mads as the Big Bad in all the Hollywood franchises. Clearly, he's won BAFTAs and Best European Actor etc. and is capable of playing ANY character. And Hollywood . . . well, Hollywood can't Read Subtitles! LOL.
