I know some might disagree but I think Conan Doyle's skill shines the most in his Holmes short stories. They're just wonderful at laying out an intriguing story in a concise amount of time and packing a punch with the concluding...Can I just say in addition to loving your content - I love all the COLOR that you have in your videos! All the books and colorful clothing you wear is such a delight to watch.
Thank you, Kate! That’s so sweet of you to say. I love bright colors! I’m looking forward to the Holmes short stories so I’m glad to hear you really enjoy them!
Jen, I love that you take the time to produce so many videos every week. You and I like the same kind of books so I look forward so much to these videos. Thank you.!
Good job winging it, Jen! I had a wonderful read this week. Colm Toibin’s “Long Island” was just released, and if you read “Brooklyn” (or saw the film) you’ll recognize the protagonist, an Irish-American woman named Eilis.☘ She returns to us 20 years later, married to an Italian-American and the mother of two children. The opening chapter reveals a huge surprise which I won’t spoil. You don’t have to have read “Brooklyn” to enjoy this book.
Thank you for the great video. I agree with you that life is too short to read something that you are not enjoying. I am just finishing The Women By Kristin Hannah. What a fabulous and powerful book by the Vietnam War!!!
Hi Jen I am really enjoying your book tube channel. I have finished listening to Heidi on audio after you recommending it and I was so glad I did it was delightful. Thank you keep the recommendations coming.
Yay for your Persephone books! I can't wait to hear what you think of One Afternoon in particular! Yay for Vol 6 of Emma! That's so fun that you were in the Cards on the Table play! I love going to local theater performances. I'm 28% into The Fountain Overflows and the verdict is still out! 😂
I’m so excited for One Afternoon and I’ll let you know what I think of it when I get to it! And I’m trying to pace myself with Emma M. Lion but it’s so hard! 😂
I also own and love that edition of Heidi - so pretty! I just finished a NetGalley book, A Mythical Case of Arson, which struck me as a cozy fantasy/cozy mystery blend. Fun and fluffy - I ended up really enjoying it.
I finished reading The Ivy Tree by Mary Stewart. At first I was put off by the ethics issue but I stuck with it and I am glad that I did because in the end, I really loved the book and anything by Mary Stewart. I know that I will be very sad when I finish all her books one day. Now I have started Lisa Scottoline's The Truth About the Devlins which from the very first page really starts off very strong. This is the first book I have ever read by her but I think I will enjoy more of her books in the future if there anything like this one. She gave all of us who attended a library sponsored book launch, this book for FREE! How do you not like that! She lives just outside Philadelphia which is not far from Baltimore, MD. We were so lucky. I will also have to one day check out books by Laurie Colwin since you like her so much and my library has some of her books. Thanks, Jen.
How lovely that you got the book for free from the author! That’s so nice. I’m glad you enjoyed The Ivy Tree. That’s one I haven’t read in years but need to reread soon.
I have a large two-volume set "The Annotated Sherlock Holmes", nice resource. I highly recommend COLD TO THE TOUCH by Kerri Hakoda. Set in Anchorage, Alaska and stars a likable yet flawed police detective, DeHavilland Beans, investigating a series of murders.
Hi, I'm a former Alaskan, born and raised in Anchorage. I'll have to check out this book - I follow Jen from Zurich, Switzerland - my current home. Thanks for the nudge
Another video - yeah!! 🥳 thank you for introducing me to Beth Brower - bought volume I and can't wait to read it. I too love Persephone books ( thank you, Miranda ) my collection of a few are all 2nd hand buys - and all illustrated covers - they are beautiful! I could not believe I found 'Mariana' by Monica Dickens ( relative of Charles ) for $3.00! haven't read any of these yet .. 😐Add these to be on the look out for: The Making of a Marchioness by Frances Hodgson Burnett, They Were Sisters and Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson and Saplings by Noel Streatfeild. All such beautiful covers and in great used condition. You are so right in DNF'ing books that we aren't enjoying -- too many others our piles to select from. I love your copy of Anne of the Island. I'm currently reading The Paris Dressmaker by Kristy Cambron. Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day!! 💐 Jacqueline
I received The Home-Maker for Christmas a couple of years and have yet to read it! Hopefully, I can get to that one soon. I love those Wordsworth editions, too!
Good for you, deciding to DNF those 2 books - life is *Definitely* too short to carry on with a disappointing book. I just finished a lovely book This is Happiness by Niall Williams and was having trouble starting new book. Then realized I have Emma Lion's 2nd journal on my kindle - hooray! Such fun books .
Hello - I'm reading The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard and also Ngaio Marsh's Light Thickens. I just started Light Thickens and am a quarter of the way through The Transit of Venus - it's great, and the writing is very cerebral and different from other writers.
I am collecting the Chiltern editions of Jane Austen. They are beautiful in person and have creamy soft pages that make a very enjoyable reading experience. I would like to read Larkrise to Candleford so I look forward to hearing your review ❤📚
So happy for your video, as I always look forward to them. We have alot of similar tastes. I may not have read some of the bks. you mention but have them. For example DARLING. What a GORGEOUS edition of HEIDI! Did you say you got it at B+N? One bk. I have always loved that I NEVER hear mentioned is A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I have read it twice, old bk. but a real favorite of mine. I bought a new copy a while ago because mine was in poor condition from lending it out as a recommendation. Have you read it? I am presently reading, Life In The Garden by Penelope Lively for Miranda's May bookclub. Happy Mother's Day!
I did get Heidi from B&N! I also love A Tree Grows in Brooklyn! It was one of my favorite books when I was a teen. I need to reread it soon because it’s been so long. I was going to read the Penelope Lively book too but not sure I’ll get to it this month. I will read it at some point though! Thanks for watching. 😊

I so agree about the color in your videos, Jen! So cheerful!
Also - I sadly dnf'd The Fountain Overflows too :( I have tried three times with it and I finally realized it's just not for me.
Another cheer for cheerful colors!
Thank you, Kate! That’s so sweet of you to say. I love bright colors! I’m looking forward to the Holmes short stories so I’m glad to hear you really enjoy them!
Thanks Elizabeth! 🩷
Jen, I love that you take the time to produce so many videos every week. You and I like the same kind of books so I look forward so much to these videos. Thank you.!
That is so kind of you to say! I really enjoy making them and thank you so much for watching! 💛💛💛
I am going to read Emma for the first time this summer. Love that copy of Sherlock Holmes.
Enjoy Emma! It’s wonderful.

I loved Brooklyn! I might reread it before I read his new book because it’s been such a long time!
Loved this "by the seat of your pants" video!
Thank you for the great video. I agree with you that life is too short to read something that you are not enjoying. I am just finishing The Women By Kristin Hannah. What a fabulous and powerful book by the Vietnam War!!!
I’ve heard good things about The Women and will have to check it out at some point.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! I’m so glad you loved Heidi…it’s a new favorite for sure! 💕

@@jensreadinglife So hard!
Congratulations on your Persephone purchases! We also enjoyed Miranda's video on her suggestions. I have to get started on Something Fresh, too!🙂
Miranda is such a great resource for book recommendations. My TBR always grows when I watch her videos.
I also own and love that edition of Heidi - so pretty! I just finished a NetGalley book, A Mythical Case of Arson, which struck me as a cozy fantasy/cozy mystery blend. Fun and fluffy - I ended up really enjoying it.
I love a good fun & fluffy book!
Oh wow you've found Persephone books secondhand? That's awesome.
I DNF'd two books this week, too.
I found the Persephone books on Thriftbooks! And I guess it’s a DNF kind of week! 😂
I loved the homemaker!!
I’m so glad to hear that! It sounds amazing. 😊

They are such beautiful editions! I’m hoping to get to all my Persephone books before too long! 🤞🏻
Love your channel. It would be nice to go on a book haul at Barnes and noble or to your local indie bookstores
I’m planning some upcoming videos to take you all along with me on some bookstore adventures so stay tuned! 😊

It’s so fun to collect beautiful editions of favorite books! And I will definitely share my thoughts on Lark Rise!
