- How to set up the Victron Cerbo GX in the easiest way possible and connect it to the VRM?
I show you setp-by-step how easy this is when using a LAN connection or just Wifi. Out of the box, the Cerbo is a true plug'n play device. A lot easier to setup, than the Raspberry Pi.
We also need to give this installation a name, right. Thanks a lot for all your suggestions but I will have to go with something a bit more peppy. So the name sticks! 😀
As soon as the Cerbo is connected to the VRM, I show you how to do the 'Blind Installation' of Kevin's GuiMods by using a just a USB stick. And finally, we also connect our Ruuvi Tags to the Cerbo. It will be quick and easy. I really like this device.

I have been having issues with connecting to a new wifi device. I have been looking for a couple of weeks to find the best explanation. This by far is the best video explaining the steps. Thank YOU.
Hey Andy, im just down the road at Ipswich and i ordered the wrong lenght ve direct cable for one of my devices, so now i have a 30cm ve direct cable which I don't need, still brand new in the packet if you want it. Keep up the awesome videos mate!
Cheeres,
Matt
Cher ANDY, merci pour cette vidéo très intéressante sur le Victron Cerbo GX et son utilisation.
You might run into issues, when connecting both the Lynx-Shunt and the CAN-BMS:
The Lynx-Shunt will be forced to be the main battery monitor and you can't chage it in the settings...I experianced that a while ago. But It might have changed until now.
Much better now it's level. Can't wait until the next video's!
Coming soon. Actually I plan a little mini series from tomorrow morning. A video every day until Sunday...
@@OffGridGarageAustralia Nice! Looking forward to all your plans.
After that the next step will be a 24/7 livestream? 🤣
If so I will get some beers and take some time off to watch it all!
Hi Andy. I've noticed that your cerbo gx has serial number HQ22**. and there is an issue with internal power supply. when you connect your cerbo to 48v it can die.
Wow. Well done. Thanks.
Question: Your VRM shows the menu item "remote console" on the dark background. Mine does not. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get that me nu item listed? Best regards from Switzerland, Silvano
Yes, a new video!
I guess everyone is telling you to get it straight. Thanks again for your feedback.
If Andy levels the cerbo in his garage, does the bush make a sound?
It'll level out better after a beer or 5.
My RUUVIs have arrived - so of course i need to add them to the Cerbo/VRM - and need to watch this again :)
Coming soon to the VRM ......
worked it out while the intro was still playing :) You can now see how cold it is here in Northern UK!
Any GUI mods that make it less "Littles Tikes" looking and make better use of the pixel screen area? A Black background would be a great start.
Hi Andy, Andy?...you sound like you would have a German-speaking background?....Andreas? Well, I am Otto and not busting on knowing about all of this, I try to learn. I am a long-retired, office machine technician, originating from Vienna. Because I run my system on 24 Volt, where should I get the 5.5 Volt supply from for my two in-line Lynx distributors to get the system indicator lights working? I have a basic Victron Cerbo GX and on top, at the far left I have two USB positions free, should I join a USB cable, cut one end off, and link it up with the yellow & black wire of the supplied cable that came with those Lynx distributors? We/A&O made up a solar panel to the battery bank system, controlled with Victron elements, output 220 Volt to overcome those many power-out situations we have in rural QLD to protect the goods in our fridges & freezers and issues when printing 3D when the PC goes wild with the printing program. Ergon Energy has the habit of supplying at times too little and even far too much electricity (up to 260 Volt) and some of our appliances did not like that and did quit on us......and you ask what name to give to the Cerbo GX, this unit is very smart - remember who Idefix was? (Idefix & Obelix). Stay awesome, cheers!
Thanks Otto. You may want to watch my German channels linked in the description 😊
Again a great video, again a lot of answers, thank you for this great work, I wonder if downloading this package also works with another language mutation .Thanks Andy
Heya, it's nice that you can upgrade the software
The leveling had me chuckling.
Thanks Andy
does the cerbo GX only connect to Victron equipment, or Could I use it to connect to a Schneider inverter?
I think the display USB is used for touch screen too.
Hi hoffentlich hast du eine Revision die mit den 48 Volt System kompatibel ist. Victron hat eine Serie die nicht ganz 48V stabil ist. Eine der Varianten die Probleme macht ist REV A10.
For $350 what is the purpose of the Cerbo GX? Why do i need it? or the $250 addtional screen? My stunt and solar charger tell me the same information correct?
Andy do you have a link for the 12 volt 200ah battery you used in this video please
Hello Andy
Why do you choose a Cerbo and what is the reason instead of a rasberry pi
Hi Andy i have a question about the relays on the cerbo. i have a server rack with 5 BYD 5k batteries, the rack has a built in fans in the top that are 240v. i have the temp sensor from the cerbo running into the rack and wanted to have them turn on when we have hot days. I can see how to operate the relay from the temp sensor but im not sure on how to make the cerbo's relay switch on some form of 240v relay to activate the fans.
Is this able to be achieved
Ryan
Andy,
Change your NAME to EILEEN...Cerbo will be perfectly LEVEL.
I want to add a temperature sensor that will trigger a stop on charging / discharging if too hot. What’s the best route for this ?
I'm surprised he didn't just call it Peter. Lol
I didn't think about that! 🤦♂️
Thanks Andy very interesting
Thanks Andy trying to do GUI mod install
Should be fairly easy and straight forward.
Try installing this stuff in a van nice and level... it's all off just a little bit.
Hi everybody. Just a question: if I connect my Daly bms with Cerbo gx will I be able to restart the bms via VRM app? I’m using the UART-USB adaptor to connect the Daly bms ti Cerbo. Thanks
Hi Andy
Loving the content
Just updated my firmware on the cerbo to v3.00~20 and I’ve lost AC Loads display on my VRM
Have you had this problem yet?
Yes, I had this problem. Running the latest beta sometimes breaks things. I only install this on my SPAT Calibration Centre installation, not on the production one.
Other have problems too with the ~20:

Edit, Ah, you posted there already... 😁
@@OffGridGarageAustralia Ahhh that explains it so basically only stick with the non ~ versions
Thanks once again keep up the great work legend👍🍻
Hi Andy, now it is "grad" (gerade) 🍻cheers
Indeed it is!
on my device, the remote access is disabled, so i cant access to start setup the device. how do i activate the remote control ??
Hello
I follow and love all your work
Unfortunately, I tried with the GUI on my RP ( RaspberryPi ) and it does not load at all from the USB stick and does not create an additional menue in stettings
The version of my Venus Os is 2.92. I also tried newer versions but nothing
Apparently I don't have it. I don't want to do it in CERBO GX because I'm afraid that if something goes wrong it will spoil the whole firmware
Well, for now, greetings from Poland :-))
I love this intro. Absolut Deutsch 🤣🤣🤣
I installed setuphelper without being superuser. Maybe it is neccesary for a raspi but not on the cerbo.
Ah, right, thank for that information.
Love the video but the blind install what can you use for the root password ❤
Love the new name haha!
I bought a Cerbo GX for my solar system...watched your video and hooked mine up and ... puffs of little smoke...it's fried... 🙁 I think it was directly shorted inside...
Did you hook yours up to the 48V battery directly? There is a known problem with that. Just needs a 100uF cap parallel to the power input pins. 12V and 24V should be fine.
More info here: community.victronenergy.com/questions/150136/faulty-cerbo-gx-devices.html
@@OffGridGarageAustralia independant 12v battery system in my RV... I knew about the 48v issue...mine is 12v so I didn't worry about that issue...I left the wiring attached and it runs a test light perfectly. Really think my Cerbo is shorted...starting the return process with my vendor...wish me luck!
Should name it to Anton Schoenmeier Service Center!!!😜
The wifi connection direct to the Cerbo GX is really only used to setup the wifi, with a laptop or computer if you don't have bluetooth available. I see no other convenient use for that.
What battery is that with all the outputs on it?
🎉
Call it the ANTON. LOL😂😂😂
Yeah, hahaha!
A guess at the battery test... EVE grade A, B and C?
Thx Andy ….. I missed the “bombenfest” 😂
Coming soon again...
'Crooked' 'plumb' or 'Un-level'? or is it all in the eye of the beholder? I am reminded of a few electricians and inspectors who where OCD with levels, even on floating offshore platforms and mobile structures, who insisted crooked and cock-eyed things be installed perfectly plumb to gravity. Also, I recall a few cock-eyed professionals with cock-eyed levels who trusted cock-eyed bubble rather than their own cock-eyed eyeballs.
Name it Luke…. That’s a great name…LUKE…..!
SuperUsrrrrrr!
Call it S.P.A.T. Prime
Call the cerbo "skippy".
Hide my exact location - dude, it has GPS receiver :) you don’t need to input it.
😂😂 nobody saw you level it
I just lifted the level a bit, right? 😂
@@OffGridGarageAustralia 😂😂 it was a SPAT calibration of the Cerbo
@@ZeroDot42 you mean like🍻?
Scary, people can connect to your setup.
Hahaha, they actually can't as I have shown in the video.
Anton Schoenmeier, thats a Dutch name. In Dutch: Je zielige actie is mislukt Anton. Misbruik willen maken van iemand die ons allen informatie verstrekt. Erg laag van je.
