I am so glad I found this channel. Taking PowerBI to the next level is such an important part of my teams role and every time a video comes out I instant share with my team. The work you do is incredible and has really helped my group show the data in a way that makes sense to everyone.
I have finally found the Mr. Beast of power bi videos, such amazing content. My jaw dropped when you went through the list of maps and found the custom one on the bottom!
i was trying to do this last week with QGIS, but couldn't quite get it to the end. Bas, as always you are the guru at this. thanks for this awesome vid!
Might want to point out that one of the unique requirements for a topojson is that you cannot have overlapping polygons. Something to keep in mind when you make them. If I'm working with downloaded GIS data I usually apply a small negative buffer instead of trying to edit them out.
Extremely helpful tutorial. I have been hunting for this and I really appreciate the detail you went into. Confident I can pull off something like this now.
Thanks! Have a look on Linkedin- just posted example on team structure www.linkedin.com/posts/datatraining-io_team-structure-in-power-bi-activity-6997886485211267072-BrML?
Brilliant Video! ... something i want to do is use part of this, to then geo-reference the image in a non-utm projection (so some local projection) and then overlay custom icons at specific location on that image. Is this possible? Maybe someone here has a link to similar? thanks.
Hi Bas! Thank you for all your videos. please, help me! :) I would like to have only the frame of the "departments" and have the objects itself being transparent. Not to hide fully the "floormap" with the unique "map". Do you have any idea how to resolve? Thanks
Great video, thank you! I have a question: Is it possible to create a sub-area within “Menswear”? For example, “Menswear” would be the main category, and within it, there would be a sub-category called “Pant”. Both categories would be visible. If I click on “Pant”, it would display information related to pants. If I click on any other part of “Menswear” except “Pant”, it would show information related to menswear.
Thank you for this solution. I find that an easier solution would be to use the synoptic panel custom visual. Also could use inkscape to create svg and then synoptic visual.
Synoptic user for a few years now... Synoptic is definitely easier, BUT lacks the control you have with this video's techniques. As consumers become savvier with Power BI, they will want functionality that Synoptic does not provide, namely Drill Through (no right clicking) and conditional formatting. Bas has converted me.
thanks Bas for content and knowledge you share. I am just wondering if using Synoptic Panel (Custom viz created by OKViz) can solve this problem easier and faster? It allows user to upload picture and mark hot spots in the picture (in example small squares), theen you can add conditional formatting to change fill based on measure
Nice video. The colouring using measures was brilliant, didn't know you could this. There plugins in QGIS both for drawing rectangles and ovals, and for directly exporting topojson.
Can you also prepare a video on using SVG (subway image with path & station ) in power BI and animate the path based on status of the train (reached or not).
I have maps from ArchGiS converted to topojson directly, also I have the exact information generated by Json , however, the Shapmaps show it that very distortion. How can I fix that . I'd very much appreciate it if we could have a direct connection to explain that in more. detailed
I have a good suggestion for your next video: How to bring in a customized reference layer such as a polygon as a boundary to filter just the data points within it. I went through youtube, stackoverflow, arcgis and microsoft forums, and documentation and none of these places do not have an answer
Can you please share a video, how to make chart similar to Gant chart with a time slot of 1 hr with a duration of an activity. Like employe login / logout ( date time column). Is there any chart which can plot hour slot duration of an activity, like a Gant chart in bi.
How you come up with this is beyond me. First you knew you want something like splitting the image, then thought about map visual, then new about some bizarre program that let you create maps in GeoJSON format and then to another one to convert it to TopoJSON... Come man it require serious IT knowledge and creativity ;)
Every time a video comes out, I feel the vibes as a kid when I got presents.
lol 😂

I use QGIS a lot, but this is totally not what I typically use it for. Thank you. Awesome.
Glad it was helpful Charles! How do you use QGIS? for me was/is a whole new world.
Bas, your content and delivery is superb. Thank you!
Man you just overcome yourself with each video. This is dope, congrats!
I appreciate that Marco! I was blown away when it worked, such opportunity for every report...
Amazing video. The details you shared are invaluable! Thank you!
thanks Stefanos! happy it is helpful 😊
🤯 I don't typically work with maps or geographical data, but I am going to have to somehow sneak this into my projects. All of them.
I love the way you explain everything in simple terms. I found this video quite useful.

Yea, qgis is a bit of a struggle at the beginning :) - hope this vid makes it a bit easier to make the necessary changes
@@HowtoPowerBI have already gone and finished it off due to your vid! your content is amazing.
This is an amazing trick and, as usual, a very well explained tutorial, I hope to use it ASAP, thank you for sharing :)
Thanks Nicola! 😊
Fantastic. I used it on my dashboard today. Thank you.
U presentation skill is amazing
so nice to hear that, thanks Anand! 😊
(10:43) In my case, for the scale, I have to use multiply instead of divide to maintain the ratio, otherwise it the polygons displayed are distorted
interesting, for me this one always worked - thx for sharing!
love it just impressed my manager with a map of the regions in BG, thanks a lot
Please create a series on power bi charticulator. We are really missing visual customization options on power bi, unlike tableau.

This is going to be very useful in my next dashboard. Please DO continue with these genius ideas
And I really appreciate the way you disclose the mistake and then correct it in the video.
This is an amazing video! Showed me how to do everything I wanted to do to make a floor plan in Power BI. Thank you so much!
Awesome 😎:) glad to hear this
Great video, would love to see more examples of this

Thanks for the video Bas .. Learned a lot from your channel !!
I don't think there is one video you made that I didn't like. You make high quality stuff.
Woow!! Great content, I'm learning how to PowerBi step by step
Wow! Brilliant! What a great idea. Mega thanks for such a detailed and clear explanation. Well done!
Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for!

Hey Boss,
I like all your videos and they are very useful to me, keep making more videos for me every day
definitely will, thanks Polu
Hello, what's apps you use to convert topo jason text to readable syntax?
Thankyou
OMG! A superb example and perfectly explained. Great job!!!!
Thanks a lot Raul! Great to hear that 😀
Love this tutorial, can we have a video of the line chart with target for each category that you show in the video ???
You are the Power BI GOAT 🐐🐐🐐
Haha :) thx!
OMG this happens when Neo, uses Power BI, he crack the Matrix hahaha...Ty Bas that was awesome!
loved learning about this. thank you for making it so clear to follow
Hi sir i thanks for your good content on power bi...i have learnt and got a power bi job in market

Great channel, only missing the technique how to create a filter in a table to use the selection on the map.
I am so thankful for you Bas! Amazing video - very useful info and great instruction as always.

great visual - though custom visual is not always an option

I tried do something similar with .svg but this is much better 😌 👌

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! Bas did make the point that his aim was to do this without custom visuals :)
@@rasmusl8370 without custom visuals, not it makes sense to use Bath's path :)
Another great one ….. wonderful idea 💡
Glad you think so Sarvesh!
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing these awesome tips
Another great one vid!
Great Job Bas!!!! Sorry for my english but could you tell the name of aplication where the background is black where you translate the area for BI?
Great video, I cant wait to use this technique for states in Germany :)
for german states there is already a map you can choose from the dropdown :) so you don't have to go through all of that effort
U r amazing man, thank u
Great video as usual, question: function button is not appearing (for color).. Kindly advise what to do.
Regards,
Amazing and superb content!
Thanks a million sir
Great content. Great beard too

Great job! FYI you left out the video link regarding the DAX measure in the end of the video 😉.
😊 thanks, hmmm .. it shows on desktop but not on mobile... not sure why yt does that. Anyways, here u go ua-cam.com/video/wTRrskQzAHk/v-deo.html
So so interesting :D good job
This is very useful though when i imported topjason i only got the polygons and not the image with polygon in the shape map
Can we get the image underneath and polygons over it
Overlap a normal image with the shape map
Nice! Thanks for sharing this, it's amazing. One question, can i reference two or more TopoJSON files?
Great job, Sir!
Thank you Luis!!
This is extremely cool. Awesome. Can we make it for Maps, village, district, state or election based map
Very informative tutorial. I have a question. How is the original background image created?
How to incert new row in power query

Is there a way to create a map using Nodejs, Typescript and Pbiviz? :O
wow superb creative guru
Thanks 😊
Hi! Respect! Thank you🙂
Can you show the location names on the map (the topojson) directly?
hm, i would do it on the labels of the overlaying visual .. Not sure if it is possible to add them to topojson
Superb content 👌 👏 👍
Thank you Kumar 😀
Thanks a lot for this howto.

How to view pdf file on Power BI ?
can we do that on power bi RS for report server sir?!! i'm you biggest fan, love you man!
I think if you upload the pbix file it works in rs 😀 thx for watching Amr
It’s actually very nice, but looks like very similar to treemap. And a bit complex for new user
Sir as in this journey from past 5 months...now there is requirement from my client
I have tried to follow the directions you have provided more than once and got the same result. The custom map has no shapes? help me Obi-Wan
