    I use the Power BI Sidetools extension. It creates a folder structure for the pbix with all the table definitions, measures, and a layout model/bim. Saving measures to github would be as easy as using the extensions "save to visual studio code" button, then doing a git push on the existing folder.

    • @davidmcdonnel4831
      @davidmcdonnel4831 9 місяців тому

      The great thing is this makes every visual and data model change readable. If you are regularly committing these changes to git, you can easily revert, mix and match, or reuse without even opening PBI Desktop. Once you've made your changes in Visual Studio Code, there's an option to save the changes back to the pbix file.

    I see @4:29 the AboveAvg measure and the MinMax before it uses a calculate function wrapped around the [Total Sales] measure. I thought a measure reference had an implicit calculate. I am still struggling with DAX, so could you explain why this is the case?

    • @HowtoPowerBI
      @HowtoPowerBI  11 місяців тому +2

      Yes, correct :) you don't have to put the calculate around a measure (was from a different example file) - a lot of people would take the file and then write sum(salescolumn) instead of a measure and then it wouldn't work.. that's why I left the calculate there

    Hello buddy. I tried to find the file content associated to the video but there are too many links and registration to your IO website only lead to links pointing to the UA-cam videos for this particular one. Any clues on the PBI file you copied the MinMax dax from etc ? thanks

    What is 'QuarterNo' in the dax measure for MaxMin. Can you share the formula ?

    • @HowtoPowerBI
      @HowtoPowerBI  10 місяців тому

      that's the sortby column for quarter name (if you use all / allselected you need to put in the sortby column as well)

    Can you do a video on how to filter one field parameter slicer based on a different parameter field slicer? For instance, if my first parameter field contains Program, Teacher, Student and I select Program, I only want my second parameter field slicer to return Teacher and Student. The idea here is to allow users to determine the breakdown in a matrix. For example: See averages based on Program then Student or see averages based on student then program. I've searched and searched trying to figure out how this can be done. Thank you.

    Very first measure you copied... MaxMin. Why did you put CALCULATE([Total Sales])??? Why is there a CALCULATE wrapping a measure?

    • @HowtoPowerBI
      @HowtoPowerBI  11 місяців тому +9

      the calculate is not necessary .. but often people would copy the code they see as in the file / video and then replace the measure with SUM(sales[amount])) , which doesnt invoke context transition and would need a calculate around it
