STOP! DON'T do a MUFFLER DELETE on APR Tuned VW MK6 Jetta GLI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Sometimes I have to learn the hard way. I did a mid-muffler delete and it sounds, for lack of better words, STUPID!
I don't recommend anyone to do a muffler delete. On a positive note, I guess this means I have a reason to get a catback exhaust.

Just slap on an Oval magnaflow it will purrrr like a kitten. If you want that deep exhaust note without the rasp.
Hero
@@brontoe yea and then get a bunch of drone
@@flute136 all I can say is every car is different when it comes to exhaust notes. I went with a 3-in exhaust piping and there wasn't as much drone. If you really don't want to hear any drone just keep the resonator on. That way at low speeds with the resonator on it won't have any drone. But at accelerating speeds you will hear the exhaust note you want to hear.
@@brontoe car has 4 resonators. I could remove at least something. Also i read about aftermarket resonator, what does that do compared to stock ones?
You made me watch your edits for 6 minutes and I heard the car for 3 seconds. What the fuck man? Did you forget to edit the exhaust note in?
Sorry about that. I didn't notice until I edited the video. My last couple videos have the exhaust note at the very end of the vids. Same setup.
You have a nice car, don’t devalue it by doing cheap mods. Get an AWE track cat back, I have it on my GLI and it’s great
John Doe I did an AWE Track Exhaust on mine and I like it. Like you said why buy an expensive car to put cheap mods on them?
Brina's Beauty Secrets Agree! What else have you done to your car? I’m getting APR stage 1 in the spring
John Doe you should get the tune now, it's on sale
Diego Herrera Yes, thanks! I’m in New England so I will be putting my winter tires on in the near future. I’ll need to buy a summer wheel/tire set in the spring to handle the extra power!
I did an APR airbox, AWE Tuning catback exhaust, golf r conversion front bumper, Audi S5 headlights, Spulen catchcan
I think it sounds good! Did it on my gli a few months ago
It's not the sound that I was looking for
i have a mk5 gli, full straight pipe, 3 inch down pipe to 2.5 out, ill be honest i like it but at the same time I want a different note but im just not a fan of the muffled sounds with having a muffler or resonator, I like the deep gurgling sound of a straight piped turboed car. it's all in preference though, I understand where most people come from though, the rasp does get annoying
@Frankiegisme Take it from someone who has been experimenting with all sorts of different setups for my own GLI. The sound you're looking for requires the delete of a catalytic converter in the oem downpipe. There's a barbaric cheap way of accomplishing that. there's also the option to get a new downpipe that only comes with a single highflow cat or one that is catless. This with both stock mufflers will sound decently aggressive while also allowing you to hear the turbo spool without being extraordinarily loud. Should you choose to remove the stocks in the case your looking for a little more I'd suggest removing both and replacing them with a single but capable straight-through bullet style race muffler.
I got both my mufflers deleted on my 2016 Jetta sport and it sounds beautiful adding a bigger turbo soon
I have a custom straight pipe from the cat on my 16 jetta s. Sounds amazing and has the nice gurgle when in lower gears. No drone at all! Waiting to get the downpipe and see what it really sounds like
+shane j that’s awesome 👍I’m definitely gonna do a full car back
Being a shop that specializes in performance, I have done straight pipes, expensive ass name brand cat backs(that truly are just paying for name), and the #1 most loved set up I do is a borla muffler, vibrant resonator and 2.5-3" and at max is 450
vibrant resonators x1000. I've used them on a few cars and they always sound QUALITY when you need to remove a bit of noise/drone and for $50-100 you can't lose
My W8 gave me migraines before I put in twin vibrants. still too loud but I was absolutely shocked the difference in volume with no degradation to the sweeeet W8 exhaust note
Why is a muffler delete a thing, most cars sound like ass without a proper exhaust system like a catback
I think it sounds pretty dope im fixing to do it on my tsi this weekend. But I do get what your saying at the same time everyone has their own opinions. Lol
I hear nothing wrong with the after sound
Sounds different in person.
Lol this is hilarious, idk why yours would sound so bad when so many sound good lol
hey i have a 1995 honda civic with an autozone muffler and it actually sounds good😂
Every civic owner ever:
Muffler delete sounds fantastic on my 370z. Sounds like a baby gtr minus the turbos
I did a resonator delete keeping the muffler on my Mark 6 GTI .... was way too loud and raspy. Wound up getting a diff resonator that allowed better flow than stock while making the exhaust a bit louder and deeper but not obnoxious... here a vid I did after. Was recorded with my phone so may not be the best audio ua-cam.com/video/df-_AaISrSs/v-deo.html
+Charles Edwards nice 👍 thanks
What resonator did you get?
Same thing happened to me with my gti. I was even asked once if this was a diesel golf haha because that shit was raspy as hell. Eventually got a lightly used borla catback from craigslist and very happy with the results. Also have downpipe
+emireitor used didn’t even cross my mind. I’ll have to see what’s available because I can’t stand the sound
should have taken the resonator out!!!
How would you feel if I took you out?
Shit dude. Previous owner of my Jetta GLI edition 30 did header down and it starts up like it has cams. And sounds like someone took my cat. It’s terrible. I recommend a unitronic 3” turbo back with high flow cat. For all VW Audi users.
It's called a straight pipe for a reason my dude😂😂 it's for loudness not performance smh. Should have checked on it if you werent gonna like it
Still has a muffler... sooo... NOT straight piped
I recommend, CTS catless downpipe, no muffler at all
I always recommend to install a vibrant resonator and straight thru muffler of any choice but never go straight... you will be the ricer in your block 🤣
lol your 100% wrong man, i have same exact car and i did a full straight pipe no cat, no res or muffler and it does not sound raspy at all and kinda quiet, doesn't sound loud. I Will Post a Video of how it sounds.
that muffler delete sounded awesome!!
Sounds like trash just ask your neighbors if a muffler delete sounds awesome lol
Well the reason that you think it sounds like a Honda Civic is because your doing a Honda Civic quality mods also you want to go for a performance type build but yet you have a GLI. I mean I have one too but it’s not the same. Like it’s not like you have a S4 or a 335.
You did a resonator /midmuffler delete. this is NOT a muffler delete. You did the one that makes your car raspy, the part that keeps the note deeper.
AWE track catback best exhaust for the gli simple
Andres Rivera yes I totally agree!!
I have heard a lot online and I was leaning toward APR but I'll take a look at AWE also. Thanks!
Would you recommend it for a Jetta SE 1.8t?
I have an AWE cutback on my 2014 Jetta se and it sounds great, its not too loud but it has a nice deep sound until you hit like 3.5k revs
You didn’t do a muffler delete you cheaped out and deleted a resonator so no wonder it’s gonna sound like shit my G and they might have over charged you too for the work cause my delete was like 150
Muffler delete sounds nice on my TSI
Ive got a tsi, does it sound ridiculous or is it more subtle?
@@joh1948 I have CTS Turbo catless downpipe straight piped to a muffler and it sounds good besides my v band clamp stripped so there’s that annoying sound
My friends talked me into doing a cat delete on my 2012 Jetta Se, I kinda regret doing it bc it's ridiculously loud. makes me look like a ricer, also it turned my engine light on.
+david campos dang that sucks man.
you took out a cat then... mufflers have no connection to the ecu
prob didnt space o2 sensor
david campos Don’t ever take off the converter u will get check engine light forever
Just get a high flow cat from summit racing for $50 and have them weld it
I have a magnaflow rear muffler with the mid muffler deleted. Sounds great. That stock rear muffler sounds bad. Replace it for 90$
+MrJmaone someone else mentioned that too. I think I’m just gonna wait and get a catback.
FrankieGisMe did this to mine with with the magnaflow muffler.. I think it sounds great. I’m actually on the west PHX area if you ever want to see it!
Can you post a sound clip of that? I may want to do that as well
I have a 2018 vw Jetta 1.4t would it sound the same cuz I wanna do a muffler delete and a mag flow exhaust
I also did the magnaflow muffler with the suitcase delete and i love it not to load or to low perfect hummmmm! Mk6 GlI
I know they sell these cars in Germany without turbos trying to figure out how to get ride of my turbo any ideas. I want to get 48 miles per gallon again like when my waste gate broke on me and yes I don’t care that it will have 80 horsepower mileage is everything to me.
Buy a TDI
Taking out the factory muffler and replacing it with cheap exhaust shop crimped pipe bends. Congrats on paying to lose 5 horsepower.
I didn’t know things lol which is why I said DONT do it
Sounds like 99% of "modified" cars here in México City, i feel sorry for you :(
I hate that deep hum that it does on the lows too
Agree
Agree totally with you, because i have this same jetta GLI 3 gen and keep all the time entire exhaust system unmodified except i install a downpipe with cataliser delete an appreciate the new performance of turbo specially with unichip piggyback.
Nice man. How does it sound?
Very healthy, but not too strong or agressive, so now its possible to listen a little better the turbo working.
Hi Frankie ! Are you more of a Touring type cat back system, or more of a loud/track type ? Also, what brand do you expect to choose for your system when you upgrade ?
Hey man 👋 I don’t want my car insanely loud, I just want it to sound good. I really like the sound of the APR cat back. Hopefully I can get that in the near future. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
I have the Borla CatBack exhaust on my 13 GLI, not too loud, nice deep sound
Ugh they just did that to my car ugh and I have the money I wish I knew that, that’s what they were going to do. Or I would of said no and wait for the part to come in 😕
Ya I’m not a fan
I actually did that also and I hated it so much, I actually went back to the muffler shop within the first 3 miles and told the guy to put the muffler back, just wish that the catback exhaust would be a little more affordable! 😫
That's kind of where i'm at right now. Having this awful sounding exhaust is helping me justify buying a catback hahah
Did you delete rear muffler or mid muffler! I replaced my rear with the BORLA pro xs with little to no sound difference. I'll be replacing the mid muffler soon with a BORLA resonator. Hoping it will work. 2012 Jetta se 2.5 at insta destroyer_gray_challengers
I did the mid muffler because it was cheaper. Huge sound difference. I’m sure it’ll sound great with a borla resonator
Not worth doing specially without mandrel bends 😬
+562skillz agree 👍
Omg I love the way a 1995 honda civic with a auto zone exhuast sounds. So doing it.
As long as you know what you’re in for lol
Mine sounds ok. I️ have a 3” test pipe and rear muffler delete. It honestly sounded kinda crappy until I️ deleted the catalytic converter. Now I️ hear a lot of turbo spool and the note got much deeper.
MI Smith & Wesson is it crazy loud?
MI Smith & Wesson this happen to me on my veloster. It didn't sound good until I went catless
MI Backyard Engineer Do you’ve a video of your exhaust Bro ?
Anything you do to a car devalues it. Just buying the car devalues it so 🤷🏾♂️
100% agree. I just think it’s better to do quality parts
3" turbo back. No cats, no resonator, no muffler. Just pure, raw, neighbor hating noise.
That’s probably insanely loud! I bet it sounds good thought 🔥
@@Frankiegisme definitely loud, but actually sounds good. The ko4 really sounds amazing with a straight pipe. Not for the faint of heart or a daily driver that's for sure. My daily driver has a 3" catless down pipe to a 2.5" exhaust with a large magnaflow straight through muffler. It is very tame and mellow sounding until you get into it.
Sounds nice 👍🏼
I did it to my 14 1.8t and it's not terrible because I was looking for something that wasn't to loud because I do alot of highway driving and don't want to rattle my brains out doing 2 thousand rpm. but that's just my opinion.
+Michael Riffle ya I get it. I don’t want a crazy loud car either. I’m just looking for a specific sound I guess. Thank you for watching 👍
Okay so I have a mk5 with the 2.5. Took out both mufflers and it had some drone for the first 100-200 miles or so but sounded great! Go to car shows and they don’t expect a little jetta😂
I'm thinking about deleting my Rear muffler. But meh. I may just sell the car, I had a 2006 2.5 Rabbit, and I just detached the Cat back and ran it open. It was BAD ASS. But pretty sure the Vibration toasted the Power Distribution Module. $900 later....
Then do the down pipe if its turbo if u do do the down pipe
All this guy does is hate on muffler deletes he has like 3 videos on it 🤡
2 videos: 1 initial video and one 6 months later. Thanks for watching both 😉
my mk6 jetta is straight piped from the car back and sounds much better than before. i did the same thing you did. resonator before rear muffler. huge mistake. the rear muffler restricts so much air to the point where it takes away the low rumble to the car that everyone loves. remove the rear muffler as well. it will not only give you a deeper and clearer note, but your turbo spool sounds insane with it
i dont want an insanely loud car. I just want it to sound good. I'll be doing a 3in catback in the near future. Most likely APR based on all of the sound clips that I've heard.
Ugh, terrible job. Wrong pipe homie.
Totally agree with you, and very appreciative of your video. I to am wanting to change my exhaust on .y VW CC 2.0. And looking for the same sound note.
So just a resonator delete? Idk I don’t think the res delete does to much
Big difference in sound from stock. Just not a sound I prefer.
Dude go with a magnaflow cat back or weld your original muffler back in and and do an APR down pipe with high flow cat
If you want to here what both sound like check out my vid and hear for yourself on my 2015 GLI
The turbo sounds nice in your vid but its still not the sound that Im going for.
Put a magnaflow where you deleted the oem
I have a cc and I did a muffler delete but I left the resonator in any kind of sounds like dad but I love it because we get the DSG farts so I love it
DSG farts? lmao what do those sound like, im thinking of getting a 17 gli soon and i might do a rear/ mid muffler delete since i like a purr but dont want it to be too loud
Hope you get that job and save up for * actual high end parts!
+Roger H you and me both! Thank you for your support 👍
anyone can do it to any car. they sound good if you do it properly. i have both mufflers gone in my jetta tsi. sounds really good. just don’t f up
I agree you have a nice ride, I also have AWE Tuning Track edition exhaust on my 2011 mk6 Jetta, Injen cold air intake to accompany it. I fricken love it and sounds AMAZING!! Granted its a pricey exhaust but the sound is well worth the buck!!
Good content but you talk to much 😬 keep it up though
I was told that since I was born 🤷🏻♂️
😄😄😄😄😄😄. Just buy a frickn thrush turbo muffler. At least it would sound less farty. And they're only like $30 at AutoZone. 😄😄😄😄😄
😂
Do you have a catless downpipe?
Nope 👎 Gil’s sound so good without them but it’s too loud for me
I have APR catted downpipe ...AWE catback ...nice wot..but i want it a little louder ...based of this video I should Not delete the resonator on the aftermarket catback? I want more sound but don't wanna mess anything up
If you already have exhaust mods, your car may sound different than mine. To test what it will sound like just unbolt the exhaust after the cat. That will give you an idea of what it would sound like.
I have a 14 jetta 1.8t I deleted both mufflers and replaced the rear with a 40 series flowmaster usually for v8’s but good for dropping Any tone , it gave me a great sound without the racer fart can sound, found the flowmaster on Craigslist for 50 bucks
That’s what I’m going for but I think I’m just gonna wait and do a catback
I don’t see how that sounds bad I’m running a cercitworxs axle back and honestly find it’s not as good as a resenator delete witch is what you took out
Just wasn’t what I was expecting
man you saved me bro i guess ill just get the AWE track... especaily since I have a 1.4T Really wanted to save money but i guess you get what you pay for. Thanks for the video!!
Well in all honesty you said poor mans exaust and thats a you get what you paid for deal. I knew off hand you had the gas model.
My co-worker has a catless DP, no resonator and a borla muffler. Apr tuned also. Sounds great.
Same here, honestly sounds amazing, minus the exhaust drone
I do not enjoy that sound, Im buying an awe track edition exhaust for my gli
So I know you know alot about jettas, so here goes nothing.
I am looking at 18x8.5 wheels with +40 offset. I have 225 / 45 tires and want to know before I buy the wheels if they Will fit. Thanks in advance. I need new rims one of my momo revenge is bent from previous owner so my new tires cannot be balanced correctly and I am destroying my new Yokohama s drive tires.
TBH I know absolutely nothing about wheel offset. Sorry man 😐
They will rub with that tire size if you have it lowered. I have 215 35 40+ offset 18x8.5 and mines is almost slammed on coils no rub
I came here for the review and I stayed because of your video editing skills and you video shooting skills
Thanks man 👍🏼 I appreciate you saying that
Great explanation and video, i have a 2014 jetta gli 3 gen but sorry, do not like this new exhaust sound , specially for long road trips.
Then don’t do a muffler delete simple 🤦♂️
They shoulda did for free for the B role
🤣 thanks
I would delete you other muffler and weld in a borla in its place, great sound and way cheaper than a cat back
A lot of people are saying similar things. I want a 3in exhaust for future performance mods.
Sounds more like a resonator delete.
Technically is but this mode came with double muffler instead of resonator
i know this is 2 years old.. but if i am 100% stock but put a stage 1 Apr tune on mine. would i be able to tell a difference?
Yes. If you have mods it would make more of a difference. Either way still a difference
FrankieGisMe okay awesome thank you for the fast response! i have a 2014 passat 1.8tsi and am going to tune it with apr stage 1, hopefully i could get high 6 seconds at least. and i hope it pushes me more back in my seat 😂
I have a 2014 MK6 GLI with a APR high flow down pipe and stage 2 tune. I have the stock exhaust on it still and looking at putting a Borla or AWE cat back on it. I just don’t want to have a headache every time I drive it down the road so any advice is appreciated. :)
When I was at a tuning shop the owner told me that the stock exhaust is good and that I only need to replace the down pipe. So honestly if you like how it sounds, I would say keep it as is
FrankieGisMe ehh it could have slightly more rumble. May save up for that Borla.
Good idea
Those cars sound great with both mufflers deleted. Custom pipe from cat back 2.5 pipe
+Slammed Style I plan to do a 3in catback exhaust system once I scrap some cash together
FrankieGisMe if your doing a 3 inch be sure to tune it or the turbos gonna take a crap
+Slammed Style thanks, didn’t even think about that
I had a cts catless downpipe resonator delete and rear muffler replaced with borla muffler to dual 4" tips. Sounds amazing check my videos
If you delete both it sounds great - only problem is drone but if that doesn’t bother you I recommend it. I had this on my GLI for a while.
+Dominick Caruso probably does but I’m just gonna do a full 3in catback exhaust
FrankieGisMe look into Milltek!
I have heard so many recently. I think I like APR the most (so far) im going to keep looking for now.
I have a mk7 Jetta Gil and I took mine straight off and I would say it’s loud as a monster truck
Lol monster truck
It doesn't sound to bad on the N/A VW. You have the gli I would never done that to a gli.
quit that ricer stuff everyone and go downpipe and a nice cat back
Trust me i learned my lesson haha
Misael Castillo that's exactly what I did ..it isn't loud enough ...apr dp...awe catback...
Do a downpipe 3ich all the way baack with a rez and u will be happy. Look on my page i have a few videos
+VDUB AZLIFE cool man thanks for the info I’ll check it out
Just watched your vid. Thats closer to the sound im looking for but still not it. Thanks for sharing
I wonder what it would have sounded like with the big muffler deleted instead
The best sounding gli I’ve heard was straight piped.
Did you eventually get that catback system that you were talking about?
Unfortunately, no.
So theres no resonator on them? And did you experience any loss of torque ?
No, it’s more like a double muffler setup. There was not a noticeable difference in performance.
It only sounds good in certain cars like a like the 10th GEN civic SI
Isn't the one in the middle the catalytic converter. I don't know about there, but here in Illinois, we have emission testing every couple years. It would jeopardize the emissions for passing the test. So I will stick with the rear. What's your opinion ???
No, that is not the catalytic converter. The cat is closer to the engine. I still have mine due to emissions as well.
So have the middle muffler removed for better air flow after getting the cold air, and tuning upgrade. Like I told you before, I got a great deal on this car, but I want to get about 200 horse out of it. You think it's going to take a lot on that 2.5 non turbo to get there? Just 30 more. I mean it's fun to drive now, but is it going to be expensive to modify a 2.5- 5 cylinder? Thanks for you comments.
Stock muffler is generally good enough for more performance. It’s most recommended to get a downpipe because that is the most restrictive piping in your exhaust system.
i decatted my 1.9 pd a4 b7 never again it stinks and the fumes burn your eyes
I believe it. I refuse to go catless. Save the environment or something like that lol. Thanks for watching
What makes an exhaust sound good is to have good mufflers personally. You don't need a catback exhaust especially if you don't have a custom muffler. I have a custom muffler for mk7 GTI so I got a borla catback since I couldn't just get a muffler replacement I didn't want a custom exhaust to look stupid. Otherwise you can only make a 4 cylinder sound so good in my opinion, I don't like Subarus but those 4 cylinder boxer engines sound good.
I deleted the resonator and muffler on my 1.8 beetle and it sounds great, I paid 120 to do it, and chopping one muffler off is like half assing the job.
100% agree haha. I just don’t want drone and an insanely loud car
I haven't even looked that far back yet, referring to the catalytic converter.
What would you recommend, a cat back exhaust or turbo back exhaust? Im just afraid that a cat back specifically the AWE track cat back, won't be loud enough. Any thoughts?
You probably did something already but catbacks are super quiet just get a down pipe it's louder.
i got a custom stainless steel full exhaust with a 200cell cat on my mk5 gti, with 2 small mufflers. i think its sounds amazing😁.
I can’t imagine what that sounds like but I bet it sounds good
Where is this shop in Phoenix Frankie, I want to at least go to a shop to get the rear muffler of my 1.4 TSI deleted with better tips.
It’s on 91st Ave just south of grand Ave. There great guys there I just wasn’t a fan of the sound
FrankieGisMe what is the name of the shop so I can call them
The Mad Hatter Muffler & Brakes
FrankieGisMe Thanks bro
where did you get the wheels and for how much?
+Zach2636 they are the VW Mallory wheels. Factory on 2015 GLI
You should've done both. I had both of mine removed and done from the cat back for about $180 for the same car
I didn’t want to spend that much on that. I would rather spend it on a 3in catback exhaust.
Tbh I agree with you on the sound, my 1996 corolla 1.8l has the same sound with just a muffler delete so it sounds good for my cheap 1996 corolla but not for a brand new car
😂😂😂
Literally every little thing you do on the exhaust changes the exhaust note. Even how much residue is built up on inside of pipe...
Word is born! Let me know if your in chandler
I don't go out that way too often but I do go to the Pavilions car meet almost every Saturday in Scottsdale.
