Hey Ryan and Sam, I would love to give you a tip when cooking the octopus. When you have the water boiling, grab it from the head, sink it completly, and take it out just after, repeat 3 times... then leave it inside the time you need normally. The heat/cold will break the fibers and you will have a super tender flesh! ;)
When getting the tako kind of be more gentle with it don’t jab it or it will wanna stay inside. And when it comes out grab the head not anywhere on the body it will be much easier to hold onto. And there is a knot between the eyes that u bite or cut with a knife. Sometimes if that doesn’t work I just flip the head inside out and that will kill it
Hi! My husbands uncle always told him to pound the he’e on the rocks by the ocean! Easy cleanup and you can just wash the slime off right there!! Freezing them helps too! *yay Justin Lee!! (; *
What a refreshing video guys!! I bet the recipe was ono!! It was also nice to see Justin. Yall should do a trio dive somewhere different or a place you've never been to.
You guys should catch as many Roy as possible in one day, and make a big batch of fish chowder!! Give some away to your friends and family.. it’s so good bro.
Ryan Myers : I would love to see a video about how your hunting techniques or styles change in different conditions such as water clarity, current, heavy vegetation and so on. I noticed that a lot of guys in my neck of the woods (outer banks) seem to get away with a lot more movement than you recommend in your super clean water videos in Hawaii & Bahamas. Also do strategies change more so because of the target species or environmental conditions. Really enjoy the channel very informative and helpful. Thanks & happy hunting
Ryan, it would be great for y’all to go over your spearguns and the riggings before each dive.....likes and dislikes, as well as your dive float choices? You still using the 15L Creek Kooler as a dive float? That thing was cool! Thanks for another awesome video!
Awesome video! Yo tip for killing the tako, bite hard right over both eyes, right behind eyes get like one bone you should feel pop or crack and they turn white, no bite and pull! For cook em, just need 1 inch of sake and 1 inch of water in pot when start boiling put in tako, cook for 20 minutes and pau!
Awesome video and nice job catching those guys, love to see it. You may need to get Sam to show how she made the kimchi poke it looked pretty ono. I don't get how you only have 20k subscribers, you make quality content and are fun to watch and listen to. I know you'll blow up one day. Shoootz!
Freezing it for a couple hours is what I was taught after you catch it! Might help with the tenderness too! Along with the salt wash. Anyway good stuff!
Such great technique stunning video makes me wanna go back and try my own hand at it. The vibes, wakes my instinct I wanna go, setup a playlist with Metallica and Delta Parole and go off into my own world right this moment.
Great tako dive! Yeah everyone got their own ways of cooking tako! I’ve tried a bunch, used ginger ale, red wine, sprite/7up. We call the fried, popcorn tako, right after you pull it out of the oil throw some Furikake on top! Can’t beat fresh cooked at the beach! Sam did a awesome job tickling the tako! Lol keep up the great action! Glad you guys missed the storm! We’re holding down the fort in Kane’ohe (Oahu) 🤙Aloha
Love da vids, I like dis one too but I found dat Finessing da tako hole mo betta, jus in case da tako small get chance for live ahh when Release, give dem baggahz time Dey goin come out da hole 🤙🏽
After you bite/kill the tako in the water. Flip the head inside out so you can gut and clean inside of the water. Good chum and less of a mess when you go home to clean. Awesome videos keep them coming! 🤙🏽🍻🍻
Almost first! But watching your videos is so inspiring and makes me wanna get out there and spear fish I’ve been spearing a lot since watching your videos and I’ve gotten really good! I just need help holding my breath but thank you so much! I’m a huge fan.
Do you ever visit maui? I have a lot of the older guys that have been around since the 60s that have showed me things. But I'd love to meet up with you guys and dive around this Island! Lmk!
Once you manage to take it out of its hole. You should try flipping the head inside out and tearing off the insides for the kill. It seems pretty cruel, but it’s basically cleaning it at the same time. Plus, you won’t get eyeballs all up on your face😂🤙🏽
Before fliping the head to clean, i put the wire from one to the other, that way crosses the brain kiling that, who don't use wire to carry the fish can use the knife the same way, you don't need to poke several times, just once and leave the the spear in it, after an while it will came out with the spear, poking several times, makes it to bleed more and atracts morey eels and you can lose if not all the tako atleast some legs, for me is easy to find tako, at the entrance of the holes look for "shiny" pebbles, the greener top of algae growth aren't exatly on the top anymore, empty sheels, or remains of crabs and sea urchins in the entrance too, and they are on the hunt there is always a few pilot fish and other bait fish near to try to grabe some scraps, so even far away when a see a few small fishes together pointing in the same direction i swim to there because i know will be there a tako
Seen umm at 7:27 try poke at umm till they turn their beak at u then softly jab at umm they usually come out really quick for me learned that from an old timer
Regarding on how to approach caves... The coast I dive is composed of granite boulders of various sizes, some are larger than a big house. The technique we developed is consisted of diving 20' or 30' before the entrance to the cave but never in front of it, always on the sides, out of the field of view of any fish. Sneak slowly with your gun by your side and your eyes partially shut so the fish can't see them and you are acostumed to the darkness of the cave in case you have to go deeper into it. If you show up at the entrance of a cave and a school of large fish such as Cubera Snappers are there, chances of being run over by them are real and dangerous. It happened to me once and another guy I know was knocked out by a large Cubera....so imagine a XXL Trevally coming full speed towards you...you better not be in it's way. 😜😂
@@RyanMyersExpeditions South Eastern Brazil. Fish are skittish, most of the times inside caves and water visibility is rarely over 30'. To be honest, the big ones are always near the bottom where the visibility is 3'...😫....but I'm landing on Big Island today, it's time to finally enjoy some blue water.
lol right on! the one we did to tenderize was a more pumping motion :p, u guys getting um tho, just more practice, get plenty of different way to go about it. and yeah could be used as a disciplinary tactic hahah :p 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Dude, now you checking out prime Hawaiian YT, Kimi. She got the local culinary skills. Got to send the info to Judah & Kelly Young. They had a problem with tako dining. Probably help Cheyenne too. Good tako hunting. Tight lines!
Took me a few times too but finally figured it out. Its not necessarily that you are biting the 2 eyes together. The brain is between the 2 eyes but its in the head a little lower than the eyes are. You gotta push your mouth down farther and get both eyes behind your teeth....Its kinda like biting down on a cherry tomato when you find it...lol. My dad refused to bite them because he was certain they'd stick a tentacle in his ear a pop his brain😏 so he'd just turn them inside out. Plus, you clean them at the same time🤙🏼... either way works, awesome dive. CURIOUS: I'm looking into buying a Rob Allen 110 Roller. What model do you currently use? What would you suggest?
Bra Ryan is lucky af to have someone like Justin coach and polish his skills lol and show him the grounds! Mayja video as always 💯🤙🏼

Awesome Video man , keep up the good work 🤙
Yo I just started watching you and LOVE the content! Just subbed.
Nice catch! You bite them between the eyes. Listen for a pop. When done correctly they turn white.
Some people say no water just straight in the pan to extract excess moisture... Makes it more tender
Love it!!!! You guys rock!
Where did you get your float? I like that one where you can put your fish inside to keep the eels and sharks away. Great for night diving.
It’s kinda the best thing ever. It’s a creekkooler Use Ryan10 for 10% off!

The takos look so small compared to our great pacific octopus here in Alaska. Awesome catch!!
We’re can I purchase that floaty you use for your catch?
It would work perfect for ocean fishing
Can't do it on a same day catch and cook, but tako freeze super well and are more tender once frozen and thawed.
Glad you found your tako eye!!

Do you ever visit maui? I have a lot of the older guys that have been around since the 60s that have showed me things. But I'd love to meet up with you guys and dive around this Island! Lmk!
You got huge octopi over there! Awesome catchncook. Wouldn't recommend using too much single use plastics for a picnic though haha.
Once you manage to take it out of its hole. You should try flipping the head inside out and tearing off the insides for the kill. It seems pretty cruel, but it’s basically cleaning it at the same time. Plus, you won’t get eyeballs all up on your face😂🤙🏽
Ya I think this might be my method of choice from now on actually!
I’m not sure if they do that in Hawaii but that’s how some of the fisherman’s here on my island go for the finish..

Roi roundup Team Justin vs Team Ryan!!! 🤙🏽
You should put a tako in your fish tank! That would be a sick feature
Did the storm Douglas pass already
Freeze it for 10 days then braise it like 5 hours 🔥🔥🔥 add poke recipe and eternal bliss. Long wait but totally worth it
Biting octopus in the neck was out of this world. Never knew that existed.
Ya it’s supposed to be the best way to kill them quickly.
Just flip head inside out
Killer! More Justin Lee dive videos!
