Today we're having a look at this beautiful example of an iBook G3 clamshell. I've been longing for one of these for over a decade now and to finally have one in my collection is wonderful!

Fun Fact: The classic Mac OS stores the desktop configuration in a "desktop file" which is searched for on all hard disks with a system folder, hence your OS 9 desktop aliases appearing on your fresh install of 8.6. This is actually the same reason why the desktop icons from a fresh Mac OS install appear after installation in the install CD live environment. Yet another neat classic Mac OS thing that really should have been carried over to Mac OS X.
Aha!! That’s exactly the bit of into I was looking for, thank you!!
Such a cool quirk.
Thank you, for sharing your iBook (Clamshell) installation of OS 8.6. For the computers in my collection that shipped with Apple's classic operating system, I prefer using only OS 9.2. When Apple Computer first introduced these iBook laptops, I feel in love with their design and still think they look great ... even today. However, in the early 2000's, when it came time for me to pick-up my first used laptop, I decided on the Black and White G3 PowerBook. Why? Because it had double everything over the iBook with two (2) Firewire 400 ports, two (2) USB "A" ports, two (2) hot swappable bays (for the DVD drive, super-disk drive, zip drive, extra battery, or extra memory). Plus it also had, the same Air Port card for a wireless connection (smile...smile).
Really glad you enjoyed the video!
OS9.2 is really nice, though I do believe that 8.6 was the last version to have 68k compatibility. 🙂
I don't blame you for choosing the option with more ports, it's certainly handy.
This is really neat, a nice little look! I just inherited a G3 iMac (but currently it's running 10.4.x). I need to reinstall OS 8.6, or 9 lives. Cheers!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Ohh nice one, tiger would be quite sluggish on there no?
Definitely get pre os10 on there, it’s so fast!
Oh wow, a new vid! Nanosaur and Bugdom are terrible Mac only games from an indie dev, Pangea. Apple licensed them as they were nearly the only Mac only 3d titles at the time, and fairly non violent.a lot of people have nostalgia for them as for many they were the first games they played on a Mac. The dev did make one more game that was MarioKart esq but also really bad. The other options would have been less impressive 2D shareware games from people like AmbrosiaSW who made better games but didn’t showcase the hardware or some truly awful maze crawlers in 2.5D.
Yes, back at it!... I wonder how long this stint will last.. Thanks for the context on the Pangea games, that helps!
UT99 next!
