That's UK justice for you. After all the investigation, time, and money spent by police and the courts eventually allow him to serve only five years. Incredible! This actually encourages people to get into crime, after all, what is the punishment or rehabilitation?
I constantly see people in England (and Australia) receiving only 5 or 10 years for premeditated murder. I'm no a fan of extremely excessive prison sentences. Once someone proves themselves to be a complete and utter psychopath, I feel they deserve to be punished more harshly, though. Then there's what some call "rough justice", as well: It would only take 1 or 2 gallons of gasoline to make the man above disappear forever.
Its the mostly now liberal minded ex Public School boys who raise to the ranks of Judges who lack much real life experience who cause these injustices and mild sentences. He must have had also a brilliant legal defence team !
he is supposed to be in jail for life
what a waste of good police work
can always count on the court of appeal to ruin life by releasing all the dangerous criminals
Financial crimes in the UK,ROI,Australia and NZ are treated not as seriously as violent
He is neither sophisticated nor smart.
He just happened to find some of the dumbest and most naive persons in England(No offence😉).
I said the same thing. Good thing Im not the only one who thought so too
@@samle9131 You're not alone my friend😉
All the best 2 U👍
He isn’t just doing this in England but has done this with at least 2 American women that we know about. He’s extremely smart and able to avoid being tracked by the police and clearly is very persuasive. He knows how to manipulate and control. This isn’t dumb luck, it’s the work of someone extremely skilled
I agree
😀😀😀
The fact that he is still alive and 'married' to someone is mind blowing. He is capable of more than scamming people. He can go beyond torturing his victims mentally
see above! The saga continues and moves to very rural France where he is on the run in an nice Audi
Latest news from France in this case which becomes more confusing each day. Since March 2023 there have been concerns about the kennel & visited by Inspectors. The lady Mayor of the very small village over at least 3 years has raised concerns with Prefecture & Police with no results. It is reported by over, say, the last year he was "away most of the time returning rarely to house.
She was, in effect, free to leave 'which complicates kidnapping charge again!) After Netflix film two villagers contacted producers to report it maybe her there. There WERE two emotional separate reunions in France with her son & daughter not long ago. Slowly she began to "distance" herself from Freegard. She was still reluctant to leave but eventually agreed if Beagle dogs were re housed. The French SPA did this and found they were in very poor condition. But it seems she was in house when inspectors visited and probably called him on his portable. Clearly he was not far away and returned quickly. It begs the question had he found yet ANOTHER lonely vulnerable victim nearly and is taking refuge with her? The car maybe concealed in the grange or garage.
It seems very possible as he would soon be located in rural France driving noticeable blue AUDI A3 on British plates and , being so devious & cunning, it could be he prepared an escape route. Strangely Police have still NOT published Freegard's most recent photo or registration number of AUDI !!
The Deputy for Creuse department has complained that the authorities have not acted correctly throughout despite complaints of villagers & Mayor. The mystery, I repeat, how he could maintain a British car in France over years without obligation to change registration and to exchange driving licence to French one. Clearly it was not insured. Also they needed to have new Resident Permits, register to pay tax, show sufficient resources, register with health service, open bank accounts etc. None of this apparently happened since 2016! Yet they were selling expensive Beagle puppies on line (and known to other local French breeders) and he was retaining the profits once again paying no tax.. All this while she is alleged by neighbour to eat only mushrooms & pet food. She was, no surprise, said to be emancipated in a bad state. This is modern France to day. Everybody minds their own business and not much humanity & kindness. In fact he chose the location very well, but again I ask how did he obtain the tenancy? The French are very selective and insist on many documents proving solvability , references, and especially from foreigners a guarantee to pay the rent.
It should be noted with his terrible history & conviction if the French had made discreet enquiries with British Police (normally effected on criminal record check when applying for Post Brexit Resident Permit application) all would have been divulged and the couple deported home to UK. The Chief of Gendarmes still protests they did nothing wrong !!?
Just got caught !
@@Aloucette they'll let him out again
the fact that they released him is more mind blowing
from life sentence to 9 years then released lmfao
trash justice system, i thought America is bad enough
Why would you believe him, if he said he was a special agent, agents don't go around bragging about them being a agent.
Bingo
Stupid games are played by stupid people.
Unfortunately some people are very gullible.
Totally agree. And they are UNIVERSITY level . Unreal.
@@jadetasker6401 Agricultural College, BIG difference.
UK s justice system sucks... How on earth can you let this guy walk free after short period of time in prison 😡
It's outrageous, it proves one can't trust the system.
Once they sent them all away to a continent. Now it's known as Australia. LOL.
When it comes to asking for money, I would walk...
Absolutely. And even towards the police prescient.
It’s the same sort con and control that cult leaders have. Think of how perfectly normal people get sucked into cults and will do anything for the cult leader and lose all their critical thinking and autonomy.
I've never understood why they give these people names like in this king con , don't these sought of people crave attention and notoriety??
Right?
No, i get 12 eggs for 3.99
No one puts criminals in any positive light where I'm from.
First rule of thumb. No one. And I mean NO ONE in any type of covert operation announces it, and their role in it, to anyone.
I bet this guy wishes he thought of the Nigerian Prince scam.
😀😀
He tricks people into thinking what they want: they are the main character. They are "chosen", "on the run", etc. Every time someone starts making you feel like the main character, get the fuk outta there. It's only ever a horror movie.
This story is too awful to watch 😖 😱 😨 😰 I'm sorry. I cannot watch or listen any longer.
shame but you still took the trouble & effort to reply herein.
Why would you believe him, if he said he was a special agent, agents don't go around bragging about them being a agent.
Let's hope this mug get what he deserves from a caring member of the public
Am sorry but that crawling to avoid the sniper 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😁😆
Damn, there is a lot of repetitive paddig in the doco. I gave up after 16 minutes, I got about 3 minutes of info.
'Manipulated and abused three intelligent adults'. I don't know about the intelligent part...lol
The Netflix documentary was very good. However, I still don’t get how he managed to convince these 3 ordinary people that the IRA were after. It doesn’t make any sense, especially that this con went on for such a long time. They never questioned - they just did whatever he asked of them.
It’s the mind power a sociopath has over their victims. Until you have experienced it, it’s hard to understand. These predators can sell ice to eskimos and many have fooled experienced business men, not just women who were looking for love.
The girl, Sarah?, did ask "Are you really?", and the con guy kept repeating "I'm a spy, Im a spy, I'm a spy".
As the comment above says, you don't truly know what's it's like until you meet one, a psychopath.
I dated one, thankfully I wasn't conned for money, just love, but still.
They can con you out of anything, they could steal a car and sell it to you like it's theirs. They are that crafty and smart, and depending on the psychopath, that resourceful.
They are creatures of need thankfully and so this guy needed to keep conning, which got him caught and shown to the public.
How to detect manipulation, how to read body language, how to read rooms, etc, should be taught in schools tbh, but instead we learn math we'll never use and read books to write essays that won't matter in 10 years unless you get a doctorate.
They were around 18 when they conned and the IRA was seen as a scary terroist group. In the netflix doc, they mention that there were two IRA bombings in their town, the week he kidnapped all 3 of three of them and put them on the run. The timing was good to start the con
Is it still on Netflix ?
Yes. The Puppet Master.@@davespinn4488
Hope he's being closely watched because guaranteed he's not reformed. Bet his psych report was a read and a half though.
He is at it again. The Puppet Master film is on Netflix and is worth watching. It's a story about what he is currently doing which is conning more victims!
You can also find it for free in OK, a Russian site.
You just have to search for it inside the site.
Actually, you can find almost every film there
It was the reverse! The British Police should have posted information about him to Interpol and western europe Police forces.
How could they fall for this ridiculous story?
Because it was exciting…
We all want a bit of romance and excitement in our life…
Sir, what ?!
Hhhhhhh! (Sigh)
These were girls from families with money and they had professional goals or were professionals. They weren't poor economically or girls working as waitresses. And to get to college here, you have to have taken classes that prepare you for college. The men in these programs about conning women seem to target women who are impressed by money and class or the aura of it.
And he used flattery and he is said to be good at sex. Not many working-class girls here. He didn't want them. He wanted women with money or family money. I suppose you could get a working class woman to work the streets or something to support you, or have her share her welfare check and make room for him in her flat, but this guy had a different approach. And he debased the women and the guy and he enjoyed it along with the large sum of money he got. Nasty guy. He was not a student or a professional and he enjoyed going after them.
I would find agriculture exciting and living in a village fun, so we are all different.
The victims in this case are described as being intelligent individuals, is having an IQ-level of 85 considered to be intelligent in the u.k.?
😀😀

I feel bad for these people. They are gullible which makes them the perfect victims.

Look, if someone told me they were an MI5 or any other type of agent, I’d laugh in his face and tell him to try again. A real agent would NEVER tell ANYONE who he was or what he was doing nor for whom.
These kids were typical students………dim.
He is currently on the run in SW France. He's just run over two Gendarmes here, and again had a woman held prisoner in her own house. He should have been jailed for life.
Will he now get the maximum 30 years for attempted murder in France? The military Police (gendarmes) are not going to react well in this particular case

Men too because he John Atkinson fooled for the longest time too.
@@MinSugaCheonjaeat least John got out way before the other 2 women from college. Men aren’t as naive as women.
Why is the advert as the beginning so fucking LOUD?
For a more satisfying sequel : he was at it again on another Brit woman, got her to run for him a dog pension of sorts in France. Rather opportunistically, early 2022 some people in the village watch the French version of The Puppet Master film, the neighbours click, involve the local maire who tries to get the local 'gendarmes' involved, those morons refuse (so fair enough if 2 of them get a bit shaken later on), the maire calls upon the ' procureur de la République', he gets the cops to move their arse, these go to have a closer look at the dogs' poor conditions (agree on that, but methink humans should get nearly-equal consideration), that bastard gets warned somehow and turns up while they're there (end Aug. 22), then tries to get away, in the proceeds bumps into 2 'gendarmes' (that's military, as opposed to Interior for cops), runs to Belgium, The French put an Interpol call on him, he gets caught in Belgium (Sept. 2), gets handed to the French (Oct. 17), currently rotting in a lockup in Limoges (in France, so we down here are paying for that fucker's nosh & bedding), and not likely to get away with it for a mere 5 yrs' run coz bumping the 2 uniforms is called "double attempted murder on persons representing the Public Authority", note the capitals coz they automatically double the sentence; so even if you don't really harm them (21 days and 6 days off-work, they got away much lighter than any of his other victims) it's not so easily swallowed as totally fucking up x amount of lambda people's lives. Possible film sequel to The Puppet Master with 2 film makers, 1 UK + 1 Fr, visiting the (ex-)neighbours in Dec 22.
This is a quick summary, for ex. in reality the French neighbours and the village mayor started trying to act since end 2018. Simplifying things here somewhat.
*edit P.S.: No he - again - won't get done for kidnapping, abuse a.s.o.. Just for the double attempted murder. Hopefully that'll be enough to do him for life. The funny bit is, he doesn't speak French so the court case should be fun. He'll sure have time to learn it in the nick.
People are not going to read one long run on sentence the length of five paragraphs! Learn how to write!
I believe these people could have walked away at any point during this weird ordeal. Come on... and spy telling you, he's a spy. Goofy.
This man should have run for member of parliament.
😀😀
He and Kim of N Korea must be sole mates.
I mean he's basically a cult leader, just a political cult instead of a religious one
Served five years in prision, the British justice system is a joke. This Man con several people, for with one he served less than one year .
Same thing would happen in Canada. Sentences here are pathetically weak!
These people must be a certain kind of easy to manipulate , ther3s no way I'd have put up with his crap
They say he's good but I honestly don't believe he would have fooled me. Even if I believed the initial story of being in danger, after 2 days sitting with no family contact & nothing to do, I would have called police & my family. Purchased a gun and went on with my life.
I think part of the skill involved is choosing the most susceptible victim(s)
He wouldn’t have chosen to target someone like you. These kinds of people know who to target. They prey on the naive an easily manipulated emotionally. Also in the UK you can’t own firearms, not even the police or criminals have them.
you would have had to go to work and write down license plate numbers.
@@JB-lo8eg u can't own a gun in UK?
@@JB-lo8eg He fell badly with his victim selection with the lady Solicitor who must have been bright. Though she still fell for his charms and only reacted after a certain period. The others were thick & dumb.
33:40 No, it's not that he didn't understand that the victims had families that cared about them. He understood that; BUT in his extreme narcissistic mind, all these people were as dumb as sheep. In his mind, he was so utterly superior to everyone, including their families. That's how narcissists think. It's also how they get caught. I don't know why he gave his victim's father's number as a character reference; I wonder if it's bc the victim herself had persuaded him that her father was okay with him, and of course, the narcissist believed it.
well, they WERE much less smart than sheep.
He did the most horrible act. It was like watching a horror movie. And got 5 years for what he put them, students, through. Could he get done again in Amercas court? For doing it to that girl who lived in the USA ? And get life without parole?
He get away Very easy, he scaming this people and torture him with psicological violence and abuse.
In the US, the worse the crime the more they want to protect you. Look at Trump. Both parties are doing all they can to protect him!
How did these three ever pass enough exams to progress to Uni?
I reckon I could get him talking in about 5 minutes. Have to turn off the cameras though.
I had a friend who claimed to be "a spy" - whispered in a darkening room atbsunset. She did work for the Dept of Defence, but honestly, I struggled to keep a straight face.
Later, I thought "well, she could be" but if she is, I'm not impressed, not interested, & I want to distance myself from her because she's: a) a liar; or b) a spy, & I don't want any dangerous complications in my life.
This makes me wonder how intelligent British students are, or how low the bar is for entry into British universities, i just can't believe that these students fell for this con.
... I can only think it was an Agricultural university, so country bumkins who whole life ambition was to drive a tractor.
Agricultural colleges are not famous for the high I.Q.s of their students ... Princess Anne's former husband Mark Phillips attended one where he was known, allegedly, as "Foggy" because he was so thick and wet ...
@@stevensibbet5869 Simple souls from well-off families attend those colleges...
its not a con of intelligence, it's an emotional con. I'm British and i doubt most of my friends wouldn't have fallen for it. i would guess he identified certain people with weaknesses.
Lots of new MI5 intakes are now a bit bizarre & marginal. They even advertise such jobs in the press. Remember the agent found dead in his own small holdall in his London flat about 5 years ago ?
Just a tip for life: If someone was a secret agent, of any kind, they would NEVER tell you that within the first period of the relationship. They might say they do government work, but agents need to stay private.
They wouldn't say anything 😂
Ugh, you could have cut out the ad at the beginning!
Again, the British justice reveals itself as a joke.
He sucked in and conned three or four people , British intelligence have sucked in 60+million.
I understand that the BBC and British intelligence fostered a siege mentality within Britain, but the likelihood of an attack in a little town such as Warrington within hours of their departure ,was VERY remote.
I believe this guy has had some dealings with MI5.
Checkout the Littlejohn brothers among many others.
Well at least he has been exposed.. I don't think he could fool me not even my type but we shouldn't blame his victims this shit can happen
How could anyone believe this crap seriously it's bizarre.I just don't get it
and to THINK I've been foolish,good god😢😢😢😅
People who think it is unfair, I feel you. This guy is a sociopath and a manipulator. Many people hurt. But as he appealed, he did not lock these people up, he asked money and people just sent him. I did ask myself where the consent ends. Because these victims were adults. They were not kidnapped neither "threatened".
I dont know how the law society and judges live with themselves.
He looks like Mr bean ,how he could manipulate people like he did amazes me
“JAMES BOND” ?! . . . Sounds more like Brooke Bond.
What’s the betting that as soon as he leaves prison he’ll start again
Of cause he will and he will do it differently this time
He did, whose surprised
He should be in jail for life and paying back all the money he stole from all his victims. Not to mention the money they'll have to spend for years of therapy.
Who was shocked, not me
This man is evil oh my gosh this is the worst conman case I have heard evn though i=he didn't have as many victims he was horrible
Great documentary. As a side note, there are only so many identical ads for Pluto TV I am willing to stomach in 46 minutes. Can't even fast forward through them.

Still time😊
why were his assets not seized so he couldn't hire fancy lawyers?
Apologies. Driving AUDI A3 on UK plates somewhere in Europe. Photos of him are out of date. However one fairly recent one appears on short YT report called Robert Hendy-Freegard of him at dog show. He is now 51 ish

Whirl-wind romance
That psych eval needs to come to light. I wouldn't be surprised if it said he should be in an asylum or if he was homicidal or has killed already. If the defense thought whatever it yielded was worth a life sentence it most have been that bad.
It amazes me how anyone falls for this billy BS , my first husband tried telling me he’d been in the SAS and he was always nervous of groups in London because people knew who he was , I knew it was crap , we’d met in the army as soldiers and we had a menial job in the royal engineers so I knew it was rubbish but the girl he lived with after we split up was terrified of him because she thought he could take her out with one move if he wanted to , the lies he told were dreadful but I knew he was full of it , never trust anyone and question everything I’ve come to see in this life , I know it sounds paranoid but honestly it’s the best policy in this world !!
I agree completely!
What a cruel bastard he really was and this is how he should be treated as the way he lied to his victims and see how he would like it if this happened to his family but I doubt he would really care one bit about that either.
Damnnnnnn he had some super master mulnipulation skills😮😮😮
I think this guy watched Bill Paxton's character in True Lies and just ran with it.
These women chose to believe this con🤦🏽♀️
Watched the story about him on Netflix, he got away with it. Karma is going to get him someday.
He got caught in Belgium last year and injured two french cops. French arent exactly known for their likeness of Brits so hes gonna get it from them for sure...
I also wonder what his Driving Licence status was (if any) and if it was a French registered Audi ? Long term residence and certainly permanent French residents are obliged by law to exchange their UK licence for a French one. This is a long quite complicated online administrative process demanding proof of validity of UK DLA Licence.
To buy a car in France requires one to produce ID, assurance to ones Prefecture. It is a through administrative process. Finally the question of his payment of local tax depending if he was owning or renting in France. They were known about by the villagers & small Marie so its difficult to imagine they did not pay same and the noise from their dog breeding business /advertising must have made them noted ? from his How did he comply with all this? Maybe a publishing house can suggest one day he writes a conman's guide

Anyone else watching because of the Rogue Agent movie?
Seriously gullible amd fearful
Didn't folks ask for an ID? At least in the US that's always the first question. We're trained to question authority.
Not really the case in Europe. Rarely will someone ask for an ID, even if they show up at yr doorstep. Also crime is much less here so we aren't "trained" as you put it.
Exactly we always want an ID and then we Google the crap out of them and call PIs ... Lol
German police or other authority figures usually show their ID while introducing themselves when they show up at your door without you having to ask for it. Most Germans (with the exception of the very old people) automatically get suspicious if some authority figure does not show their ID immediately.
