Metcalf's role in Scream 2 (1997) is one of the all-time great scenery-chewing performances, period. She's an actor with incredible range, but she pulls off big performances in a very deliberate way that most actors can't.

She was amazing in the role of Mrs. Loomis. Her deranged eyes as shes chasing Sidney. Complete, insane rage. Great performance.
Metcalf's performance in "Scream 2" is big without being a hammy mess. Really difficult to pull off, but she did it.
Agreed. She expertly crafted her performance to go big but scale it back when it was strategic to do so for dramatic effect.

Just a legend. Period. Her role as Mrs. Loomis AKA Debbie Salt goes down in one of the best performances in the Scream Franchise. She played it PERFECTLY.

Ive seen every Scream movie in the theater on opening weekend and her reveal as Billys mother in Scream 2 had the entire theater in an absolute uproar. Shes so good in the role. Shes also brilliant in Getting On.
Laurie is such an underrated actress and I'd really like to see her in more dramatic roles!

I love her so much, she's such a talented and underrated actress. Loved her since I was a kid seeing her on Roseanne, and Mrs. Loomis is one of the best characters in the entire Scream series.
Great interview! Laurie Metcalf is so underrated as an actor even though she has tons of awards and nominations! I first saw her in Internal Affairs and have been a fan ever since. And love her as Mrs. Loomis. Joe Mantello I only recently became aware of in AHS: NYC and he was brilliant. I would love to visit the Steppenwolf to see their immense talent showcased!
She was the best part of scream 2 Billy's mother
Laurie Metcalf was sensational in Scream 2, and to this day, she is my favourite Ghostface. Her motive was so sincere, "good old fashioned revenge" fuelled by the loss of her child. Losing a child is something that can only be understood by those that have experienced it, and even a group of people that have lost children will have all felt it differently. It is such an isolating, unnatural, harrowing experience that makes the mind and body do things it couldn't comprehend before. She is the only Ghostface I can fully sympathise with, and while two wrongs don't make a right, I genuinely feel sorry for Mrs Loomis, and fully understand why she is doing what she is doing. Between the rage and the vengeance throughout her performance you can see and feel her pain and grief leaking out, she can't even hold her heartbreak back whilst doing such unthinkable things. Laurie plays this so well, and every time I watch Scream 2 I kinda wanna hug her? You can feel how much she feels her actions will put everything right, how much she wants her son back. It's an exceptional performance, I cannot fault her!
Other villains in scream like stu Micky Roman Charlie Jill Richie amber I forgot billy. They are not scary villains did villains act’s you know I mean great characters in scary movies and great actors and actresses
@breandanlavery1081 definitely! They're all great, but I can totally understand Mrs Loomis' motive, she is acting out of revenge through grief, I always feel sorry for her whenever I watch it

They don’t talk about Scream 2 till about 13:00! But she’s such a versatile and wonderful actress I loved listening to her talk about her career…and she’s so incredibly humble. She also did make Scream 2…and I also always remember her playing the housewife that snapped Carolyn Bigsby in Desperate Housewives also!
Laurie Metcalf played the living daylights out of this role in Scream 2. I had to remember, this is the same woman who played Roseanne’s Sister for 9 years. Talk about a reach.

It's a classic. One of the top five slashers of all time. But it also has hints of other genres. Really clever writing.

Scream 2 and Desperate Housewives and Roseanne (dad's dead scene) are some of my favorite performances by Laurie.
Scream2 is a great slasher movie metcalf is a major part of why the movie worked.

Till this day I’m still mad Scream 2 was ruined for me, especially because it was her playing the role.
Her performance really captivated me as a kid seeing the Scream films. She reminds me of Sissy Spacek in Carrie with those crazy eyes and then reminded me of Piper Laurie with being a psychotic mother. So glad she's flourishing as a performer ❤️ she truly deserves it

scream 2 is the best of the series. She was good in it. great reveal. On a side note. I love all Allison Janney and she was really good in itonya. But laurie deserved the oscar for ladybird. Janney had the flashier role , but laurie's performance was better.
It's hard to tell if Nancy Loomis was more evil than her son Billy or If her husband's affair with Sidney's mom and Billy's death pushed her into the brink of madness or maybe she taught her son to take out all your anger on innocent people and kill them with a mask and a knife who knows I don't think even Laurie Metcalf or any actors in the Scream movies or even director's know.

Interview so good I watched it twice! Terrific job, Jake!! Ms. Metcalf is fabulous! She continues to consecutively do high-paying sitcom followed by low-budget yet high-quality theatre, then repeats. But… Must Get Oscar!!! She was *thisclose* to it with “Lady Bird,” ‘til Allison Janney swooped in. Here’s hoping Laurie can add an Oscar to go with her four Emmys and two Tonys!

I’m actually shock she talked about Scream 2. Andy’s mom then to do Billy’s mom is a testament to her craft. Even when the ending revealed I didn’t see her as Auntie Jackie anymore.
She is the sole reason Scream 2 is my favorite sequel, on par with the original. She did an incredible job and imo set the standard for the unhinged post-reveal behavior from Ghostface. Legend!!!
