    Excellent work. Clearly your professor see this. Class projects are challenging but rewarding. Again, well done! (quick question, in the final test, I see bubbles in the jet discharge. Could this be cavitation?)

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому

      adam lee thanks! As a professor, I enjoyed supervising this thesis! Very sad that the university doesn't extend my contract... for the final test, it's a good question. In theory, I would say no because our engine is limited to 7000rpm about, which is also at this rpm that the cavitation appears, but when I was on it, I was full power and it didn't have enough torque, so the engine was at a low rpm...

    Awesome job!
    To bad on the weak engine though...
    Did you calculate on the back pressure?
    A 2stroke engine need the right backpressure to function properly and by rebuilding the exhaust and especially mounting the one way valve you added further pressure to the whole system that might comprohend the full power outcome of the engine.
    Try using a weedwhacker engine with more horsepowers, they come in a vary even up to as much as 5hp and more!
    And welding a cylinder outside the cylinder of the engine and making a labyrinth of the old aircooling vanes on it and put in a inlet in the bottom and an outlet at the top with hose fittings so you could use some the pressure from the hamilton designed water jet to cool the engine itself.
    Hope som of this might help you :)!
    I'll keep on watching, thats for sure!

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому

      PezDJ thanks for compliment! i would like to change the engine and get a more powerful one... your idea is nice but I still didn't find these 5hp... need to investigate more :) your idea about the cooling system is also nice but might be complex to build :) We didn't have the time to calculate the back pressure :(

    • @PezDJ
      @PezDJ 6 років тому +1

      Well we got the 5hp ones here in Sweden, though its not a weedwhacker then its more used to remove small brusches and such.
      Might be called brushcutter :) and they need more power to be able to cut through small stems etc aswell :).
      If you got a angle grinder, a strong nipper or some sort of power cutter plier and some material with the right dimensions and welding skills it might take maybe an hour or two to bild the cooling system at the most :).
      Ah well thats to bad, hope you will get a good engine in the future then :).
      Thats the worst with 2stroke, thats why they got the "bladder" on the exhaust system to make give the right back pressure creating rebound pressure waves.
      Keep on building :D, I'll gladely help with info if you need some :) been planning to build myself one sometime but i dont have the time at the moment haha got so many things going on at the moment :P though I'm into building a electric one even though I got an engine laying around :P.

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  4 роки тому

      yo! I agree with you, we had a lack of power, we knew it will be the problem but we had no other motor :( For the impeller, we chose 72mm diameter. This choice was made because I measured roughly on a real jetsurf (with my hand so not precise) so if I remember, it was something like 70 or 75mm. If you take too small, you will not have any propulsion, if you take too big, you need more torque because of more resistance :) good luck with your project and don't hesitate to send me videos of your invention! :)

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  4 роки тому

      Bonjour Enzo! En effet, l'idée c'était d'avoir un réducteur, mais nous avons eu 2 problèmes: Le premier c'est qu'avec les moyens que nous avions, il était difficile de faire ce système, d'autant plus que le moteur aurait été décalé par rapport à l'axe (ou alors faire un système comme un joint de cardan mais ça complique encore les choses...). Le 2ème problème c'était les vibrations, rien qu'avec le joint qui lie l'axe du moteur avec celui de l'hélice, c'était un amortisseur, ça vrillait un peu... donc on a pas pu développer ce réducteur :( mais l'idée y était!

      @Anotherdaynparadise 6 років тому +1

      thanks for the quick reply. congratulations on your work, super cool.i think you will need a liquid cooled motor and i know they are available in small displacement 4 and 2 stroke. aircooled will generate too much heat in the engine compartment and since you cant ventilate too much due to water spray being potentially ingested by the intake, it will get dangerously hot and become a fire hazard. i dont know if you are also aware of a backfire and the danger of an explosion caused by it. you should add a flame arrestor on the carb and a safety blow off port for the engine compartment. the engine lid could become a projectile and injure you. its scary. it happened to me in a jetski.

    Actually 1.6 hp ( 5000 watt or 7 hp minimum) engine is not enough for the jetsurf speed but ıt could normally make at least 10 km/h . 55 lbs trolling motor can go as well 7 km/h. I think the problem is the volume of board and position of engine and also propeller. Board must be 180 lt or more. If you are 90 kg. May be i am wrong but ıt look great and deserve to go better👍

    Hey, been wondering if it would be possible to use a 2 cylinder two stroke engine that is used in rc aircrafts. Any ideas?

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому +2

      Vilius Samuolis hey! I think it would be possible, but you add more parts and you also don’t have that much space... it might be tricky to control it. I had the idea at the beginning to use 2 engines in order to have more torque, but when I started thinking about the connections of the shafts, then it was a problem, cause you need to add gears, the motors need to rotate at the same speed etc. It’s easy to make something complex, but it will cost more and it will also be hard to control everything. Be aware that there are a lot of vibrations, so the more you add news parts, the more you will have interractions and you can have some gaps or frictions...

    • @viliuxaaa
      @viliuxaaa 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for a reply, and yeah, I see... I'm thinking of making a jet surfboard through summer, or if needed spend even more time. At the moment I'm just gathering information and I couldn't found any small, powerful engines (at least 12 hp) that wouldn't have cosmic price. As I see it's been around a year since you tried to make a surfboard and wondering, did you overcame the engine problem with any idea? Maybe you have some recommendations about what engine to use?

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому +1

      Vilius Samuolis yes it’s about 1 year, but I made a world trip for couple of months, then I got a knee surgery and now I just started a new job, and new flat as well, so I don’t have time for this summer (I will go for holiday as well) but I will probably work on it during the winter and hope to test it in May 2019 ;) I plan to change it for an electric engine, it can solve a lot of problems! I will make tutorial for that as well, so you should subscribe to my channel and you will be in touch of what I will do! ;)

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому

      Vilius Samuolis you’re welcome! The electric should work causr it has more torque. The problem is the autonomy because of the batteries, but I prefer to ride the jetsurf for 10min at 30km/h instead of having a powerful thermic engine where I could ride at 50km/h for 1 hour, but that will not work because of leaks, because of cooling system, because of exhaust gas etc...

J’ai donc décidé de passer ma planche en électrique (moteur SSS 56123, en 12s, 8KW), j’attend juste que l’eau soit meilleur pour aller l’essayer ;).
    Mais ça ne vaudra pas le bruit et les sensations du 2 temps. Pour info, le seul moteur thermique que j’ai trouvé qui pourrait être adapté (11cv, refroidissement liquide, compact) c’est un MVVS 116 IRS LC.

    absolutley amazing. Im in plans of making sometinh similar but instead of surfjet i will be making a small kayak.
    Have some questions:
    1. how do you know where the outblow/nozel/ will be? If its too low or high placed the pwoer will not be be good.
    2. whats the dimensions of the board? width height and length.
    3. what engine did you use?
    Would love to see this with a better engine. here is a guy that have a 15 engine. ua-cam.com/video/Lfl2PiuhDPk/v-deo.html
    Also for example hison jet kayak has a 125 cc engine and it goes 40 km/h on water. Unfortunatlly its not that simple just put a bikeeninge on since it has something to do with torqe. But you should look it up and then put a good engine on cuz i would love to see it in more speed./regards

    • @yaelpericard
      @yaelpericard  6 років тому +1

      Hi Kuk! thanks for your comment :) for your small kayak, I recommand you to put the nozzle close to the kayak at the end (behind you). If it's too deep, your drag will be too high, if it's too close to the kayak, you might not get the best efficiency because the kayak can create some turbulences.
      The dimensions of the board are about 185 cm by 65,5 cm by 18 cm if I remember, kind of similar to the real jetsurf.
      The engine was an engine from a pocketbike, so 1,6 kw, not powerful at all, I know that, but I have to find another engine more powerful for that!
      I saw these crazy brazilians, they made a very good job with not so many equipments :)

    Bonjour,
    etant egalement tres bricoleur je suis en plein dans la fabrication d un JETSURF,
    mais ayant eu des pocketbike en 49cc comme votre moteur je suis vite passé au 39cc a refroidissement liquide "copie BLATA pocket de course"et c est avec se moteur que je compte faire le miens,
    en 49cc je ne depasser pas les 50kmh alors qu'en 39cc refroidissement liquide je pouvais aller a plus de 100kmh cela fait une tres grosse difference !!!!!!!!
    J ai egalement remarqué que vous n'avez pas de redresseur de flux en sortie de turbine donc la sortie d'eau se fait en tourbillon donc perte de puissance,j'ai testé une turbine fabrication maison "imprimante 3d" de petite taille sur un bateau RC et cela depote severe,je l ai tester avec des potes qui ont eu des bateau RC acheter dans le commerce et ils étaient étonnés de la puissance de sortie pour une si petite turbine,donc je l'ai juste agrandi et modifier pour mes besoin,
    de quelle taille etait votre turbine,le diametre de l'helice?
    avez vous un contact ?mail,forum ou autre pour que l on se partage nos connaissance et de quel coin étes vous?

      @yaelpericard  6 років тому

      Bonjour Gabriel! ravi de voir que ce projet est en open source et intéresse du monde :) alors tout d'abord, contrairement à ce que tu pense, j'ai bien installé des redresseurs de flux (4 je crois). Je t'invite à regarder ma vidéo "modelling of a jetsurf in Nx" où j'explique en détails tous les composants. Je suis surpris que ton 49cc va moins vite que ton 39cc, car même si le 39 à un liquide de refroidissement, je vois pas en quoi ça joue sur la puissance... Le couple de notre moteur était pas assez puissant, donc 39 ça devrait être enjcore moins... Peut être que le moteur a un meilleur rendement lorsqu'il est bien refroidi :) ¨Pour l'hélice, j'ai utilisé une imprimante 3D, mais les pales étaient assez flexible... j'ai essayé de mettre de la fibre de carbone dessus, et c'était carrément dur, mais la surface était très rugueuse... donc je suis resté sur le plastique. L'hélice a donc un diamètre de 72mm, et ceux du vrai jetsurf font 90 je crois :) la longueur de turbine doit faire 20cm à peu près... on a pas trop fait de calcul par manque de temps...
      Voici mon mail: yaelpericard@msn.com
      Envoie des photos de ce que tu as fait! pas de problèmes pour échanger connaissances et conseils :)
