- Why are people are seeing apparitions all over Ireland?
In the months following the first claims of moving statues in Asdee in Kerry and Ballinspittle in Cork, the phenomenon spread throughout the country. People in places as far apart as Clare and Wicklow insisted they had seen religious statues move. One statue was said to have shed blood and another to shimmer.
Colm Connolly meets both sides of the camp, those who claim to have seen an apparition as well as those who remain sceptical.
Fr Kilian Dwyer says there have been about 250 claims of apparitions throughout the Catholic Church from 1928-83, none of whom have received positive approval. According to Dr Joseph Cassidy, Bishop of Clonfert,
I think there is a danger religion itself, genuine religion, will be ridiculed. And I think there is a danger that good prayerful people, and there are many good prayerful people out there, would have their expectations unduly aroused.
Dr Peter Davison believes the shimmering of the statues can be explained by the autokinetic effect.

My parents went down for a look, they said they didn’t believe it, but there wasn’t much else for entertainment those days!

Just after school outside Sean Toole’s shop , American tourists were walking past in the village , across the road is the church and a grotto , he said shuffling past looking across , ‘ My , is that the moving statue of spiddal ‘ my 11 yr old happy to tell him ‘of course ‘, he was so delighted he bought about 20 of us 99 ice cream cones , Sean god rest him said to me was that you that told him 😂 He had a bonanza afternoon too , great memories ,

When I pray the Rosary to Our Lady and gaze on her face sometimes I see her move and smile back at me.
I remember I was around 4 when this shit went down and hearing about it, then I was scared shiteless of every statue I saw

I remember being taken to Knock as a child and being absolutely terrified to look at any statues incase they moved.

True story on a New Years eve night I was walking home from the pub in Derry I went over Queen street and stopped at the crib on public display. roughly 2am I stood a minute. Then I put my hand in to touch the Virgin Marys head. I am not at all religious. The head about the size of an avocado came off in my hand. I could not get it back on. The next morning I woke up with a terrible hangover and I reached in my coat for my cigs. I pulled out the Virgins head. I had no choice but to put 20 quid in an envelope and a letter saying it wasn't vandalism all in a bag with the head.

lol in a catholic village in the Sperrins, my cousin was doing donuts in the town roundabout in an old car....Well, his wheel came off and broke the statue of the Virgin Mary outside the chapel. You can imagine the uproar. Why didnt she move out the road!

I remember going to eyrecourt to see one move but we couldn’t get there with all the traffic that was parked up. It was crazy stuff back then ,,and I’m glad I lived in these times.

I clearly saw the statue shimmering, the narrator said but the camera did not. It makes me wonder now was Mary telling us not to believe everything the cameras/tv tell us??

I used to go out Jogging in 1985 and I was a very fast runner
so it was a huge surprise to be overtaking by a statue of Our Lady zooming past me and into the local spar.
Realyy you can find everything under the tree at spar.
At the time there was scope more good weather in Autumn & Spring then Summer.

The clergy were the ones speaking sense in this video, especially the Bishop, concerned for the people. They saw the mass delusion and the possibility for disappointment and disillusionment. I remember that time, Ireland was on the cusp of change and people were uncertain about what lay ahead. It was a more innocent time, but also one that we’ve gladly left behind.
Still mad that the clergy were speaking sense honestly. I'm surprised not even one shown was pro statue as it were. It's mad too that this all happened just in 1985 and never again, leaving developments around the statues behind. We really were in the stone age before the massive changes of the celtic tiger and the 90s in general when this was entertainment.

@@gungagalunga9040 I will be steering well clear of any vaccines. Any thoughts on the vaccine prgrams purpose? Money is an obvious benefit to those selling it, but i think there is more. I doubt a massive is cull is underway. Maybe a mass steraliszation.

The issue with that logic is that It has no way to be disproven. Because no matter how many people a miracle would happen to,how obvious it would be,the context of it,what happened exactly and to how many people etc it doesn't matter in that logic because you can say mass hysteria everytime. Keep going with it,even kf there was undeniable proof and it was recorded,people who have a tension inside them and refuse to believe irrelevant of the evidence would say the video is doctored with and that the people are crazy. If it is a medical miracle,no matter how blatantly obvious,or the context of the miracle,in other words no matter what proof you will have the people who deny the existence of god and have a closed heart and mind will say there's gaps in our scientific or medical knowledge presupposing that our ability in both realms are unlimited.
So proof to these people simply doesn't matter. If it happened to them they would say they were dehydrated and didn't drink enough water or they were hallucinating etc.

Because the Irish remember their history, and the Penal Laws meant that Protestants could only enforce their form of Biblical Christianity in Ireland by denying civil rights to those who would not follow that Biblical Christianity. Protestants only have themselves to blame, they should have acted in a more Christian manner.
