Hello from Adelaide 😀.. we left dear old Skibbereen 10 years ago.. We so miss Field’s supermarket.. 😢... It’s honestly the best supermarket we have ever been to.. Field’s bread , Field’s coleslaw.. Omg 😋.. (I could go on & on).. It’s the friendliest place ever .. John Field is such a lovely man & welcomes you when you shop ... that rarely happens nowadays !! & a big shout out to Brendan O Brien who works there.. What a beautiful soul.. From the Cronin’s Xx
My Great Grandmother Margaret McCarthy came from Skibbereen in the 1850's. She was the daughter of Charles and Hanorah. I would to love to go and visit this town very much
My grandmother came from Skibbereen in 1907. Her father name was Michael Mahoney and my great grandmother was Mary Donovan. I believe they had 16 children in total. I must go and explore my roots.
Lived there for 5 years from 2018 - 2023. I miss the place. I only really got to know the place towards the end of my tenure though when I partially snapped out of my hermitism
Nice shout out to Dr. O’DONOVAN but was weird that there was no mention that Liss Ard was initially owned by another branch of O’DONOVANs who built the home and created the extensive gardens.
If shops like those existed in my part of the world I would make it my business to buy fresh bread every day, Where I live I get to the shop once every 3 months, weather permitting.
My first ancestor in America on my fathers side came from County Cork. Willam Dugan I believe was his name. Fought for the North I’m the Civil War. I read somewhere once that Dugan was a very large clan in County Cork. I’d love to learn more about those ancestors and the place they came form
Pretty much your standard paid ad travel "show" (advertising a vegan cafe; their good market; and a real estate ad) but at least it shows some of Skibbereen. My people are MacCarthy's and O'Donovan's and they came from this area. First leaving in post Famine times for Cork City and then my grandparents to America. My mother's side came from Tipperary and North Cork. O'Riordan's and Brady's.
