I feel like johns playing is simple solid and effective. But then sped up with his compositions just make it really groovy and powerful. He’s one of my favorite inspirations and system is one of my all time favorite bands

I reckon for that one just count it out loud while you practice: 1 2 and 3 4 5 and 6. Do that until you can internalise it and then you’ll nail it just by feel!

Timing where the drum starts is so 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
The guitar bit at the start? There’s six bars of 4/4 and the guitar is playing 16th notes (1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a) but the accents the guitar is playing are a bit whack. If you can find the pulse and just ignore the guitar, count those six bars and you’ll come in right on time!
What cymbals do you use, and do you edit the sound of them in any way for your videos? They sound awesome!
I have a 16” Sabian AAX Dark Crash on my right and a 16” Sabian HHX Evolution on my left. 14” HH Dark Hats and 20” AAX Stage Ride in this video.
There’s some light compression and EQ on the overhead mic, but these cymbals always record really nicely and sound good in the room on their own!
